Projects will be given throughout the semester pertaining to certain units that are being covered. Although students will be given class time to prepare for their projects, some work may need to be done on their own time. Absence Policy: Dance is an activity course; therefore, participation is a must! Below are the different types of scenarios that you will be allowed to make up if any work is missed due to an absence, injury or illness. Non-Participation, Excused Absences, injuries or excused illness: Students who are absent, injured or ill and are unable to participate will still need to attend class and must dress out to the best of their ability. Students will be required to take notes in their dance composition notebook on the material being taught, and will turn it in at the end of class. Should you decide not to take notes, you may not make it up at a later date and will receive a zero for that class period. Forgot clothes or refusal to dress out: If you have chosen not to participate in class and are not injured or ill, you will be required to complete an in class assignment in the dance room. It will be book work related, worksheet-related or researchrelated. You will not be allowed to sit in the back of the room and sleep, listen to music, talk or distract the class in any way. Choosing not to complete the in-class assignment will result in a loss of all daily participation grades, a phone call home and potential office referral. Fitness Gram: State law requires that every student take the Fitness Gram each year. In preparation for this we will be going outside occasionally to run a mile to prepare. Students are required to wear tennis shoes on the track and will still dress out. Students may wear athletic shorts but no short shorts. Students will know ahead of time when we will be running. August 22, 2017 Dear Parents, Welcome to Dance! Please read the following pages about your child s dance class so that together we can make this year a great learning experience for your child. Be aware that dance is a highly disciplined art form that requires a high level of physical activity during the majority of class. This includes practice (sometimes in and out of normal classroom hours) and wearing the appropriate dance attire every day. Also, please understand this is a class in which critique is used to aid in improving performance/technique. For some students this will take some getting used to. Please sign below with a daytime phone number and an e-mail address for this is the easiest form of contact for us. Return this form with your child to school by August 25th. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at bethanyanguiano@tomballisd.net. Also, keep in mind that I service the students of two schools and will get back to you as soon as I can. Our end of the year show will be in mid/late April to showcase what the students have been working on throughout the year. I will keep you informed with dates and costuming as the 2 nd semester approaches. I m looking forward to a great year!
