JANUARY 2016 EDEN AMATEUR FISHING CLUB Page 1 December and January FOTM winners to be decided at the Seafood night, don t lose your receipts!! Measure & release Bream Comp, new leader Gordon Rugg : 38.0 cm Sat January 30th: Seafood cook up, girls night off the kitchen. The meal to start with prawns followed by Calamari, fish & chips with salads and topped off with some fabulous sweets. Come along and see the boys at work, they covered themselves in glory, and batter and flour last time, can they do it again? There is plenty of work involved in preparing Calamari and fish for cooking so we need plenty of volunteers in the clubhouse from 3:00 to roll up their sleeves and get into it if we are to get the job done. www.edenfishingclub.org Please assist our volunteer caterers by advising them as early as possible of your intention to attend functions Phone Gwen 64962134 or Bob 64963585

December 2015 EDEN AMATEUR FISHING CLUB Page 3 Hi All, As there have been no club functions since the last edition this report will be a little easier this month. Seafood night : Don t forget this event, it is always a good one. It s the girls night off and the boys will be keen to show that they are not hopeless in the kitchen. Messy, you bet, but capable of putting together a pretty good snack. Don t forget to give Gwen a call if you have not already, and don t forget there is a $10 cover charge for adults to cover exorbitant cost of seafood. Catching the fish: It would of course help if a few us could duck out and dong a few Flatties a day or two before hand to donate to the cause. I remain amazed that this has so seldom happened in the past, we are after all a fishing club. Could this be the year?? Life Jackets: The word is out that there will no longer be any leniency shown if you are pulled up and your lifejackets are not up to scratch. If you carry the inflatable type make sure they have been serviced and the service documented as per the regulations for the particular brand of product that you have. Be sure also that you carry a suitable life jacket for each persons that you have on board. If you are not clear on lifejacket regulations it would be worth visiting the Roads & Maritime website. Fishing comp preparations: Only about 8 weeks to go and a mountain of work to be done including updating our promotional brochure and organizing the introduction of a new comp for kids under six years of age and the change for Dusky Flathead. Measure and release option for Dusky Flathead: In response to numerous requests over the years we intend to address the Dusky issue by introducing a length only competition similar to our trial Bream comp for this year. This will surely throw up some obstacles to be negotiated but we will try. Sponsorship drive : The most important job of all and there will again be a large number of sponsors to be called upon in the coming few weeks. The success or otherwise of our comp hinges on this job and over the years volunteers have dwindled. Members, we need your help!! New members. The committee welcomes new member Dave and Gail Pollock, and Dave Kehoe (Chops) and Partner Elaine, we hope to see them at the seafood night. We would also like to welcome Lachlan Carson, who has suddenly caught the fishing bug. Good to see, look out brother Flynn! Mowing: Dave Whelan has been giving up some rare weekend at home time to bring his ride on down from Merimbula to mow the clubhouse grounds, thanks Dave. As Dave is still working away it would be nice if someone else could take a turn as the rain has gotten the grass growing fairly well. Fishing report : Plenty of boats out before the rain, the best catches have been of Flathead, there are some good Tigers and Sandies about, some boats bagging out in short time. Some good Mowies coming in as well but Snapper have become scarce. Kingies are also rarely having a good day. A recent drop in water temperature may be having an effect. Hearing about some good Slimey Maccas from the wharf area and on the game fishing scene Marlin are providing action. Happy fishing, see you at the seafood night. BOBNALONG

December 2015 EDEN AMATEUR FISHING CLUB Page 4 A CALL FOR ASSISTANCE As each and every member would be aware the President and committee works tirelessly for the benefit of all members of our club to enjoy the camaraderie, the friendships made, trips away for members and the monthly meal provided by the club and the catering volunteers. It is this point Catering Volunteers I wish to make my appeal. I have been approached as a current serving Committee member by several individual members on a current catering issue of concern. Over many years long before I concerned myself with the club members wife s have always assisted with the preparation of the food for the nights activities. This includes the ordering and purchase of food stuffs, the picking up of meats, the delivery of food to the club, setting of the tables, preparation, cooking, and at Christmas time erecting the decorations, and general clean up of the premises prior to closing of the club function. On any function many members assist in the clean up which is appreciated but I am appealing on anyone who can assist in the preparation of getting a function together with the above mentioned. This includes Males or Females. No discrimination here. I know Gwen would appreciate any assistance in just the running around etc.if you could help in this matter for the next year the club and members would be grateful so please let me know if you could assist on 041 8556414 or eddyev@bigpond.net.au On this note may I wish all members a happy New Year and a safe journey if travelling. Eddy Evans Vice President
