Daily Announcement Thursday, April 24, 2014 Attention Seahawks! On May 1 st, Scoggins Middle School is taking part in the nation s largest and most ambitious bullying rally ever attempted, The Million T- Shirt March Against Bullying. This is our second year to participate in this event, and last year was such a success, that we are going to participate again this year! We hope to be part of more than one million people nationwide, all wearing the same anti-bullying t-shirt. We are asking students to wear their anti-bullying shirt if they purchased one or a white t-shirt. This is also an attempt to set a Guinness World Record of The Most People Wearing the Same Shirt on the Same Day. We will be taking a school-wide picture in the gym, so it is important that everyone has a white t-shirt! We will have warm-ups and activities throughout the day relating to bullying prevention. Our school day will conclude with an assembly from approximately 2-3:30 in our gym. We will have feature guest speakers and entertainment focused on our message Break the Code of Silence. Yesterday your Seahawks tennis team took on the Clark cougars. In boys doubles play Ben Uzeil and Connor Krodel came away with a 6-3 victory. In girls double Parker Shipley, Emma Clark, Lillian Haney and Ashley Zoltowski won in a no contest. In singles play Trinity Vivona won 7-5 to finish district play undefeated. Ashley Zoltowski won 6-1 in an inner squad match. Emma Clark just came up short in her match but showed major improvement. Coach Cannida is proud of all the players and their hard work. The 7 th grade team was tied through the end of regulation time and went to penalty kicks. Outstanding job from these ladies as we went through 11 kickers to determine a winner. The 8 th grade team showed great heart and class as they fought until the end. They showed Coach Mackie and Coach Castleberry their true passion for the game. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 Last night the Scoggins boy s soccer teams faced Hunt Middle School. The seventh and eighth grade teams played hard fought games. Both games ended in defeat in very cold and windy conditions. 7th grade defensive player of the game was Daniel Cea and the offensive player of the game was Caden Johnson. 8th grade defensive player of the game was Johnny Johnson and the offensive player was John Luke Lewis, who endured some very painful hits on the field but still played with passion. Katie Holmes got 6th Place in the Shot Put with a throw of 29ft. and 10 inches Arianna Mena got 6th place in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 1:07 Rebekah Niebruegge got 3 rd place in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:36 Taylor Calhoun got 2nd Place in the Discus Throw with a throw of 81 ft. and 3 inches

We have some exciting news to share with you! Several of our Seahawks submitted original poetry to The Mockingbird Poetry Society Annual Contest last semester. We are here to report that we have three finalists in the 8th grade category. Congratulations to the following students: Taylor Artis, Callie Miaw, and Tiffany Nguyen. You ladies received three out of the five awards in your category. These ladies have been invited to attend the Annual Awards Ceremony on March 30th to see if they have earned 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Honorable Mention. Thank you ladies for showing your Seahawk PRIDE! The Scoggins Concert Band participated in the Region 24 UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest at Little Elm High School yesterday. These students achieved superior ratings on stage and Sight-reading. This is the highest honor that a band can achieve at this contest. The band directors are so proud of these students work and effort in preparation for this event. We may not have the fire drill, depending upon the weather, but we will have our tornado and lockdown drills during this time. Top Performers in 8th grade were Matt Hawk and Ryan McCoy in Shot Put and Discus. The 7th graders won shot put, discus, and 4x400. The coaches are proud of the effort displayed last night. The Book Fair is now open!! It will run through next Tuesday night at Open House, so come in and shop for some great new books. Our goal is to sell 500 books. We have several contests going with the chance to win some great prizes: For every book you buy, you can put your name into a piñata for prize drawings. We're collecting change for Funds for Books to buy new books for our library. The grade who donates the most money will get to watch some of your favorite teachers break the piñata at lunch next Friday and draw the names of the prize winners. Also, there is a guessing game for a free book from the fair. The book fair is open before and after school, but you must have money to come shop during the day. The winner of our Scoggins Spelling Bee, Andrew Han, competed against all of the other school winners in Collin County. Andrew did a great job in representing Scoggins Middle School and finished 14 th place out of about 80 competitors. If you see Andrew Han in the halls or class, be sure to congratulate him. Students must fill out an audition application and sign up for an audition time slot ahead of time. Sign- up sheets and applications are located on the Theatre Call Board outside of the Theatre Room. Tech Crew applications are also available on the call board. If you would like to be considered to be part of the backstage tech crew, please fill out one of these applications and sign up for a tech crew interview on the sheet for tech located on Mrs. Figueroa s classroom door. Tech crew interviews will be held before and after school this week only. Any Scoggins student may audition for a part in the play or be part of tech crew.
