Page 2 CHAMPIONS FOR TODAY Larger than life is how I and a few others would describe former New York Giant Keith Davis and former Florida State Seminole Clarence Lee. These men are people that I know others have seen playing in the game for their team, but to see them in real life was more than we ever expected. While here they showed us some amazing feats of strength that they have done before, but not everything was all fun and games. They were here to talk about something all of us have experienced at least one in our lives or we experience every day. That s right I m talking about bullying and pure pressure and hard times in our daily lives, family lives, work, school, and everywhere else. They encouraged us to push with all our might and to never give up no matter what is going on. I know I will never be able to forget that experience that they gave me that day. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT Dayton Dean Dayton was born on January 20 th 1996, in Waco, Texas to Clinton Dean and Sarah West. His career goal in to work in Media Communication. He plans to get a job working at Rooster Teeth. His hobbies are video games, beta testing, and animation commentary. His favorite color is gamboges and favorite food is Virginia Smithfield Ham. NJHS HALLOWEEN DANCE for 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders The Meridian Yellow Jackets have had a very rough to start to the 2013 season. Winning only two of the five non district games, they are looking forward to playing their first district game this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Wortham Bulldogs. The Yellow Jackets have also lost many of their starting players from sports related injuries in their previous games and they lost one player over the summer. Before school even started, Jarett Carpenter had a very important surgery on his hand and was out for the first five games of the season. The first week of the season the Yellow Jackets lost Adrian Rapoz to two knee injuries which will put him out for the rest of the season and possibly for the rest of the year. The second week while playing Santo, Rylan Horak went head to head with a Santo player and got a concussion. The doctors are looking for him to be back by the first district game against Wortham. While playing against the Bartlett Bulldogs, the Jackets lost Bryce Haney, their starting running back, to a dislocated shoulder and torn ligaments. After many long and hard practices the Jackets have been correcting their mistakes and learning new and better plays that will help them move the ball up the field. The Jackets got another win against the Valley Mills Eagles last Friday night. Jarett Carpenter played his first game of the season against Valley Mills and nailed it. A very important factor of the Jackets' win was the cheer squad's spirit. They cheered for the boys throughout the entire game, just as they do every other game. The girls on the varsity cheer squad are: Brandy Vailes, Courtney McCamey, Cassidy Menger, Tristen Carnley, Katelyn Wallace, Tara Warren, Krista Warren, Lauren Tweedle, Alex Taylor, Sierra Childers, Lauren Butler, Carson Gebhardt, Randa Norton, and Sydney Purcell. The dance the cheerleaders did last Friday night was amazing.the Meridian Yellow Jackets are currently 2-4 non district. After their rivalry win against Valley Mills, the Meridian Yellowjacket Varsity Football players are looking foward to the rest of an amazing season. Friday, October 25th 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. MHS Cafetorium $2 ADVANCED tickets are on sale during lunch. For more information, ask any NJHS member or Mr. DeBorde.
