Dairy Goat Fitting Competition Rules/Guidelines Teams will consist of 3-4 members. Each team will clip and fit a goat from start to finish in 30 minutes. The official time keeper will notify teams at 10, 5 and 1 minute to go in the competition. Teams will be responsible to clip (using only 1 clipper at a time). Additional team members will restrain the animal, sweep the work space and fit or assist as needed. Team members need to rotate through all positions - each member should handle the clippers during the event. It would be best if each team had at least one junior member (under age 13). All team members must have been exhibitors during the youth show. A dairy goat will be assigned by random drawing for each team to fit during the competition. Although it is not required, each team may have a banner/poster displaying their team name during the animal presentation portion of the event. Only one electrical outlet will be provided per team. Additional multi-plugs/outlet strips will need to be provided by the team itself. Hooves will be presumed to be trimmed.no hoof trimmers or knives permitted. Animals may not be lifted off the surface during clipping - only one leg of the animal may be off the tarp surface and care should be exercised in being gentle and calm in restraining the animal (no unnecessary roughness in handling). All team members must remain on the tarp surface during the 30 minute clipping/ fitting portion of the event. It is recommended that whites be worn by the exhibitors and covered by an apron, smock or other garment during the clipping portion of the event. Each team is responsible for providing their own clippers - blades no closer than number 10 will be permitted and there will be a clipper check prior to the start of time. The duration of the contest is 30 minutes. Animals must be at presentation and all items cleared and put neatly away when time is called. Time remaining will be called out by the official timekeeper. Items that teams will need - a tarp no larger than 8 x 10 feet, an extension cord/multioutlet, a broom and dustpan, brush, baby wipes, towels and small bucket of water, clippers (no blade closer than #10), wastebasket, whites, tote box, and display items. Any other fitting items not listed above must be approved by the competition sponsors. Scoring breakdown: Trimming - 25 points Cleanliness ( of the animal) - 20 points Group effort (teamwork) - 15 points Showmanship - 5 points Handling of the goat during the competition - 15 points Clean-up of the work area (during the competition) - 10 points Display and Exhibitor appearance - 10 points Competition Time & Date To Be Announced
