MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME: The Padres started the second leg of their nine-game, ten-day homestand at Petco Park Monday night as they welcomed the Cincinnati Reds to America s Finest City, and have already earned the series win after earning an 8-2 victory last night and a 1-0 victory on Monday night...the Friars kicked-off the homestand against the division rival Arizona Diamondbacks, losing two of the three contests, but earning the win Sunday afternoon, 2-1...the Padres will cap off this extended stay at home following an off day on Thursday as they will welcome the San Francisco Giants to town for a three-game weekend set...following this Sunday s matinee against the Giants, the Friars will finish off the first-half of the season with a seven-game, two-city roadtrip to Colorado (July 7-9) and Los Angeles (July 10-13) before four off days over Major League Baseball s All-Star break. TODAY S TRANSACTIONS: The Padres announced today they have selected the contract of INF Brooks Conrad from Triple-A El Paso and have placed SS Everth Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain retroactive to June 1...to make room on the 40-man roster, the Padres transfered LHP Troy Patton from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. Conrad, 34, was hitting.275/.347/.526 (80-for-291) with 17 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs, 57 RBI and 50 runs scored in 77 games for the Chihuahuas this season. Last appeared in the Major Leagues during the 2012 season with the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays, having spent the 2013 season with the Hanshin Tigers of the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan... owns a lifetime.207/.278/.400 batting line with 23 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 71 RBI and 55 runs scored in 280 Major League Games across parts of five seasons in the Big Leagues. WITH A WIN TODAY: Having now won each of the fi rst two games against the Reds to open this three game set, the Padres can earn their fi rst series sweep of the season today...a three-game sweep would be the Padres fi rst since taking all three games from the Rockies from September 6-8 of last season. With a Padres win today, the Friars would complete their first sweep of the Reds since winning all three games at Petco Park on May 15-17, 2009. The series win against the Reds last night was their second this season against Cincinnati, having also won the series in the Queen City from May 13-15...the Padres two series wins in the same season against the Reds is the fi rst since winning both sets against the Redlegs during the 2010 season. HITS PARADE!: In last night s 8-2 victory over the Reds, the Padres tallied a season-high 16 hits, surpassing the 15 they totaled on April 8 at Cleveland... the hit total was the Padres most since also logging 16 hits on September 28, 2013 at SF and the most at Petco Park since September 16, 2012 when the Friars had 16 hits against the Rockies. All nine starting Padres players had a hit in last night s game, the fi rst time this season the club has accomplished this and the fi rst time since doing so on August 2 of last season against the New York Yankees at Petco Park 11 different Padres players recorded a hit in the game, the most since 11 Padres hit safely in the game on August 6, 2011 at Pittsburgh the 11 different players with a hit is tied for the second-most by the Padres in a game at Petco Park, behind only the 12 batters to record a hit against Milwaukee on July 31, 2009. With Jake Goebbert s pinch hit single in the sixth inning and Will Venable s pinch hit single in the ninth inning, the Padres now have 33 hits in the pinch this season, the second-most in Major League Baseball (Pittsburgh, 35). THIS IS TYSON S HOUSE: Tyson Ross, today s starting pitcher for the Padres, has found success in his career pitching at Petco Park as he owns a career 3-7 record at home despite a 2.22 ERA (28 ER, 113.2 IP) with 109 strikeouts against 34 walks over 24 games, 15 starts. Among qualifi ed pitchers (93.1 IP) at Petco Park, his 2.22 ERA ranks fourth-lowest in ballpark history and is behind only Andrew Cashner for the lowest of any pitcher to have ever made a start in downtown San Diego (Mike Adams is the leader with a 1.29 ERA). Since the start of last season his 2.22 ERA (28 ER, 113.2 IP) at Petco Park, the seventh-lowest home ERA in all of Major League Baseball in that time behind Jose Fernandez (1.09), Clayton Kershaw (1.61), Johnny Cueto (1.71), Andrew Cashner (1.75), Matt Harvey (1.89) and Stephen Strasburg (2.01). Keeping in mind the Padres have never hit for a cycle, Smith was the 355th to fall one hit shy and the 254th to fall a triple short.
