Dear Parents/ Guardians The arrival of the colder weather marks the countdown to our Year 9 Jindabyne camp. Information about equipment and hiring costs The total cost of this camp is $915.This includes transport to Jindabyne, 5 nights' accommodation, all meals, 3 day lift ticket, 2 hour ski / snowboard lessons during this time, transfer to and from ski fields, National Park entry fees, night time activities and 2 day centre based activities. Extra costs If students require ski clothing such as ski -jacket and ski pants there is an additional fee payable to the ski hire facilities at Jindabyne. Every student must wear goggles and gloves and these items are not included in the price. 2012 Ski Clothing Hire Prices (Available from the Ski Hire within the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre) Parka and or Pants - $7.00 per item x 1 day hire $ 3.00 per item for each additional day of hire Goggles - $5.00 x 1 day hire $2.00 each additional day of hire. If you require any of the above additional hire items, this is to be paid directly to the ski hire. Snacks and light meals on the journey down are not included in the price.
Weekly Outline Sunday 26th August Day 1 Arrive at school by 7.00 am...an early start Brief stop Goulburn for lunch Arrive at Jindabyne approx 3.30pm, lodge allocation, rules of the campsite, settling in. show run by Jindabyne Sport & Rec staff Monday 27th August Day 2 Campsite based activities including climbing, mountain biking, archery, initiatives and Challenge ropes. show run by Jindabyne Sport & Rec staff Tuesday 28th August Day 3 Morning Campsite based activities including climbing, mountain biking, archery, initiatives and challenge ropes Cookout Afternoon Allocation of hire equipment including safety gear of helmets and wristbands for snowboarders. If hiring clothes and goggles students will be fitted at this time. Students will participate in a seminar about safety on the snowfields in preparation for the next 3 days. Wednesday 29 th August Day 4 Early morning rise and off to the snow fields. All students will participate in 2 hr lessons with ski instructors. Students will be assessed on their competency and then given a sticker to be placed on their ski lift ticket which will indicate to lift operators their level of skill. Students will not be able to catch lifts to slopes that they are not capable of skiing. Students will be supervised on the slopes by Mosman High School staff and Jindabyne Sport and Rec staff show Thursday 30 th August Day 5 The same timetable as Wednesday Friday 31st August Day 6 Early morning rise, pack up. Off to the ski fields for final day. Return to Jindabyne for early dinner. Leave Jindabyne at 4.30pm. Brief stop at Goulburn for a snack. Return to Mosman High School approximately 11pm.
What to Bring Two pairs of running shoes Two towels Pillow Pyjamas Socks and underwear Sheets or sleeping bag(single bed) Toiletries (including soap) Torch Insect repellent Jeans Jumpers and tracksuit pants Sunglasses Hat Sunscreen Lip balm Rain jacket Water bottle Day backpack Enough warm clothing for three layers for 3 days of skiing(temperatures can vary greatly) Waterproof pants and jacket Waterproof gloves Goggles Clothes for disco Beanie and scarf Long and thin woollen or ski socks Medications if required in a sealed plastic bag with original packaging, clearly marked with your child's name and instructions including prescribed dosage and frequency. Children with asthma should bring their own peak flow meters and keep their inhalers with them at all times. Medications must be handed to Mr Papilos at the beginning of the camp Tissues/handkerchief Plastic bag for dirty/wet clothing Ski clothing can be hired at an additional cost. Gloves and goggles can be purchased for additional costs at ski hire outlet. Cash and EFTPOS is accepted We suggest students bring no more than $20 or $30 for the purchase of meals on forward and return journeys if required. The Centre no longer stocks souvenirs for purchase. Handy hint Please label all clothing, towels and sleeping bag with your child's name. You will need to supply a pillow, sleeping bag or doona.
Please do not bring aerosol cans, thongs/ugg boots or slippers(they cannot be worn around centre).it is recommended that your child does not bring radios, MP3players, computer/video games, mobile phones, lollies/chewing, jewellery or valuable items. Luggage One bag and sleeping bag is allowed per child. Remember your child will have to carry their luggage so make sure it's not too heavy If your child is bringing their own ski equipment please let Mrs Smith know beforehand so arrangements can be made with the bus company Behaviour at camp Students will be on a recognized excursion and under the supervision of teachers while at camp, so normal school rules apply. By attending the camp students are agreeing to the following rules All activities are compulsory and students must be where they are supposed to be at all times. Punctuality is very important Out of bounds areas must be observed Students are only allowed to enter their own lodge and after lights out they must be in their beds all night. No food is allowed in lodges Students whose behaviour could result in danger or distress to themselves or others may be excluded from some activities, have their parents or principal contacted, or in extreme cases they may be sent home. Deliberate or negligent damage to centre property will be paid for by the responsible student Drugs and alcohol are prohibited. Campers found using or in possession of these items may be removed from the centre. Illegal drugs will be reported to the Police immediately Smoking is prohibited at all times anywhere on the centre Staying in touch at camp Camp contact details. You are welcome to get in touch with your child by mail, email or fax while at camp. Please make sure you mark your child s name and school clearly on any communication.children are not encouraged to phone home, as it can contribute to homesickness. You will be contacted if medical conditions or other serious issues arise. Sick or injured campers are usually taken to Jindabyne for assessment by a doctor if necessary.
