Corbell Chronicle WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE MADE November 2013 Weldon Corbell Elementary 11095 Monarch, Frisco, Texas 75033 Volume 50 Give me a P-T-A! What do you get when you cross a gaggle of cool kids in blue shirts, a crazily dressed sports enthusiast with a microphone, a blue and red balloon arch, tons of parent worker bees, and the most perfect weather imaginable???? The 8 th Annual Wild Walk, of course. I was so proud, once again, to be a part of Corbell s amazing walk-a-thon fundraiser. It s incredible to see so many volunteers come together for a common purpose and pull off such a wonderful event. My most sincere gratitude goes out to: Ashley Riordan and the Wild Walk Committee! The parent volunteers who came out to cheer, mark laps, serve water, take photos and cheer some more! The Corbell administration and staff for giving the PTA their complete support of this great event! The Wild Walk sponsors, without whom the Wild Walk could not exist! The 600+ Corbell students who walked and ran their little hearts out! Olympia (aka Laurie Deckert) for spending the day getting the kids excited, encouraging them along the way, and making the event so much fun for everyone! Dr. Lyon and Mayor Maso who showed up to support Corbell! And finally, the countless donors who have filled pledge envelopes with money for our school!! You surely know by now that we have surpassed our goal for $30,000! The PTA is working with the school to purchase ipads for every classroom, literacy kits and guided reading materials, super cute fence cups spelling CORBELL and finishing it off with a few teacher mini grants as well. Whew! That s a lot of much needed help for the school. In the meantime, November is packed with PTA activities for your family! Mark your calendar for the Fall Book Fair (1st- 7 th ), PTA regular meeting and 2 nd grade performance (5 th ), and Critterman (19 th ). Details on everything related to PTA are here in the newsletter and also available on our website: www.corbellpta.org. Check it out! Transportation changes must be sent to the teacher AND the front office by 2pm. Michelle Cassano Corbell PTA President 1

We are ecstatic to report that we had another successful Wild Walk! The students had a great time raising money for their school as well as getting physical exercise while walking and/or running their laps! We could not have had such success without all of the wonderful support from our Corbell families. We are so thankful for our amazing emcee, Olympia, and all of the parents and families who came out to volunteer and cheer on the students. Not only did we meet our goal of $30,000; we exceeded it! We brought in $30,415 through the generosity of friends and family! As promised, because we met our goal, our students had the opportunity to soak Mr. Wehmeyer, Mrs. Flynn and several of our amazing Specials Teachers in a dunk tank on October 29 th. Each class was able to participate during their grade s specials period. When you are looking for services, please consider visiting our Wild Walk sponsors to let them know how much Corbell appreciates their support. Without them, the Wild Walk would not be as successful.
