3 April 2012 President s Letter pg. 3 Hello Steck Families! And Happy Spring! I guess the groundhog was off a bit on his prediction.at least for now! I hope you are all enjoying this early warm spell, and fingers crossed we don t go back to snow now that our bulbs are sprouting and trees budding! I want to thank you all for your continued support of the PTA this year. It has been a learning year for us, and I appreciate all your support. We are getting ready for some fun Spring events. The first every Steck Resale will be on April 28 th! Consider selling or donating some of your unused toys and clothes..or just come and shop the sale either way we are looking for your support to help make this event a success! It is our last fundraiser for the year. May 4 th is the Family Dance/Dinner event. More information is to come on this, but mark your calendars for a great night out for the whole family! I hope you all enjoyed your Spring Break, and are back now, refreshed, and ready to begin the final months of this school year! Thanks everyone, Kimberly Mitchell PTA President
4 April Science Fair pg. 4 Steck PTA Presents... Steck s First Ever Elementary SCIENCE FAIR!! Mark your calendars for APRIL 24, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm!! The Science Fair is an optional, extracurricular event open to all students. A science fair project encourages questions about science and makes students more aware of the science all around them! The understanding gained from the process of scientific inquiry can be applied to any field. This is a great opportunity to prepare our 4 th and 5 th graders for science fairs in middle school! Participating students will display and present their science fair projects to judges. The judges will ask the students questions appropriate for each grade level to encourage communication on the student s project. Each participating student will be personally awarded a participation certificate by Steck s Principal, Elizabeth Pohlmann! This event is open to all students and families, so any students not presenting are welcome to attend and see their fellow students exhibits. Steck PTA is a proud sponsor of Steck s Science Fair so there is no cost to participate! Questions? Please contact Elsa Mendez at mendeze4@gmail.com or Mickelle Olawoye at mickelle_olawoy@yahoo.com SEE YOU THERE!!!
5 April 2012 Plunge into Fitness pg. 5 A friendly reminder Plunge into Fitness logs will be due back by Monday, April 30 th. Please have your child return the log to me by this date. I will not accept any late logs. If your child is looking for a way to cool off this summer they could earn a free ticket to Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville. Your student should have received a fitness log that they can fill in for every day they exercise 30 minutes. Just have them color in the path for every day they complete. Students can only color in one bubble per day. So even if they exercise for more than 30 minutes a day, only one bubble can be colored in. If you have any questions please me at amy_treptow@ipsd.org, or call me at , Extension Thank you for your support. Mrs. Treptow
6 April 2012 Mrs. Hatcher s Corner pg. 6 From the LMC: Thanks to all our book fair shoppers we did make our goal and will be able to purchase a Smartboard for the LMC! This awesome teaching tool will be operational in the fall. We are grateful for everyone s generosity and willingness to bring the best to Steck! Donors gave $81.92 to the Scholastic One for Books program, collecting money to purchase book fair books for the children of Hesed House. Imagine the smiling faces of the 24 children who receive a brand new book to call their own! Be sure to take a look at the new and improved Library Media Center page on the Steck web page. It s the fastest way to link to the latest happenings in the LMC, Steck s databases you can access from home, and the library catalog. You can even take a tour of our LMC! Log on to Check back frequently! There are new additions nearly every week! Save Those Old Gym Shoes! When you shop for new athletic shoes for your family over the next few weeks, think of the Earth Club! We ll gladly accept old athletic shoes of any size for our spring shoe drive. Our athletic shoe collection begins right after spring break and continues through the month of April. The Nike Corporation reuses materials from old shoes to make sports surfaces and a variety of other usable items. Please donate athletic shoes only no soccer shoes, sandals, dress shoes. Thank you! Volunteer Luncheon Coming Soon Steck parent volunteers, watch for your invitation to the annual Volunteer Luncheon to be held this year on Thursday, April 26. This is our staff s best opportunity to thank all of our parents who volunteer in any way to help make Steck School the best! Your generous sharing of time and talent is so very much appreciated. If you ve never attended before consider joining us. You don t want to miss one great lunch!!
