Current top players include Dos Santos The first Goal On 29 October 2001, the Goal Bureau endorsed a project involving the construction of headquarters for the Cape Verde Islands national association in Praia, incorporating a technical centre with a football pitch. The project has been funded by Goal and the FIFA Financial Assistance Programme. The main activities at the centre will be the general administration and coordination of football, youth coaching activities, preparation camps for national teams prior to international matches, and a biennial programme for 15-year-olds. Women s and youth football are experiencing a surge in popularity and should receive additional support as a result of the new facilities. Attention will be directed to long-term planning. Current top players include Dos Santos The second Goal To complete the technical centre that has already opened in Praia, the Cape Verde Islands football association submitted a proposal to lay an artificial playing surface, which was approved by the Goal Bureau on 22 September 2004. This second Goal project also included the purchase of essential equipment for the centre. The government has donated land in an effort to further promote the game of football. The association's development efforts focus primarily on nurturing young talent. Current top players include Dos Santos Third Goal project The Cape Verde Islands already boast a football centre that is home to the association s headquarters in the capital city of Praia. However, as the country is spread out over various islands, another focal point in the form of a regional technical centre is now required for the association s development programmes. Therefore, on 21 March 2007, the Goal Bureau approved a project on the island of São Vicente in the Barlavento region, which will primarily target local youngsters and clubs. It reflected a strong belief in the huge potential that women s football has to develop. Ever since, FIFA has given targeted support for the efforts of associations who offer women the same opportunities to develop as male players. Launched in 1998, FIFA s Financial Assistance Programme (FAP) introduced a requirement in 2004 for the associations and confederations to invest at least 4% of their FAP funding into women s football. This threshold was increased to 10% in 2005. On top of this commitment, FIFA also promotes the women s game in more general ways by directly financing women s matches and organising competitions and symposiums. Thanks to its development programmes, FIFA is also playing an active role in the training of administrators, coaches, referees and sports doctors. Training lesson within the Goal 's area... Win in Africa with Africa Under this motto, FIFA is seeking to use football pointedly as a development tool. At the same time, the governing body is aiming to focus attention on Africa in the build-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup and project a positive image of a continent that is working hard for its own development.. The Win in Africa with Africa campaign was endorsed by the FIFA Congress in Marrakesh and assigned a USD 70 million budget by the Congress in Munich. At its heart lies the initiative to provide every African nation with an international-standard artificial turf pitch. The remainder of the eight-point programme is intended to develop domestic competitions, train African sports executives, promote sports medicine and address topical issues relating to the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
