Bowling for Barbershop is a fundraising and awareness event. Participants ask people they know to sponsor them in a bowl a thon, by making a donation to your chapter through an online fundraising site. It s a fun and easy way to engage your fans and cultivate new members and supporters. With new technology, this type of event lends itself to viral peer to peer fundraising, meaning that people can tell their friends who in turn tell others, so that you reach more people than ever before. 1
How Does a Chapter Participate? Each Sweet Adelines chapter is already included in the Bowling for Barbershop fundraising site. Each chapter will choose one member to act as the Bowling for Barbershop point person/manager, and that person will have access to the site. The username is the Org ID and the password is the Chapter Code. Chapter/Teams/Participants Each Chapter will have teams, and within those teams will be participants. Teams are made up of chorus members and family and friends who want to be involved. How to Share Each participant can customize her own page on the fundraising website. Once that is done, it s ready to be shared via email or social media. 2
The answer is always NO, unless you ask! How to Raise $500 in a week! Day 1: Start by sponsoring yourself for $25. Day 2: Ask four family members to sponsor you for $25. Day 3: Ask seven friends to contribute $20. D 4: Day 4 Ask A k five fi neighbors i hb to sponsor you for $15. Day 5: Ask six coworkers to contribute $10. Day 6: Ask two businesses you frequent for $25. Day 7: Ask your boss for a company contribution of $50. Raising Money and Goals Chapter goal: $10,000 Team goal: $1,000 Participant goal: $500 Did you know? The Women s International Bowling Congress (WIBC) has more than 2 million members worldwide Female bowlers make up approximately 50% of all bowling leagues Sweet Adelines members and WIBC members get together at least once a week,, love to compete, p, enjoy j y buildingg friendships, p, dress alike and belong to a hobby organization Bowling in July The Bowling for Barbershop campaign will kick off on May 1, 2013. Chapters should plan bowling events for the month of July. Customize your bowling event Invite local media Sing!!! Promote barbershop and Sweet Adelines Invite the women in the Bowling Center to visit your chorus Give prizes to the best and worst bowlers, best costume, most creative team name, bowler who raises the most money, etc. 4

Raise money Team building Public awareness in your community Cultivate new members and supporters Friendly non singing competition amongst chapters across the globe FUN FUN FUN How much does it cost?? There are no upfront costs of participating in Bowling for Barbershop. Sweet Adelines International has developed a fundraising site and tools to get you started. The fundraiser is not only for your chapter, but also to benefit Sweet Adelines International and its programs. All proceeds raised will be split with International. What can your chapter do with $5,000? Approximately 30 high end costumes A year s worth of new music A year s worth of new music Pay for director to go to Side by Side AND International Convention Rehearsal space for a year or more New risers for a small sized chorus New shoes 15 new member scholarships Pay for your annual show (venue, guest performers, etc.) Coaching And so much more 5
International will be awarding prizes to the top fundraisers, top fundraising chapter and second top fundraising chapter. The prizes are yet to be determined determined, and will be announced midway through the campaign. We encourage chapters to give prizes to participates and teams during the campaign and the bowling event in July. Getting started: Assign your chapter s point person/manager Log in to the fundraising site explore, explore, explore Recruit team captains who build a team of 4 or 5 Form a Bowling for Barbershop committee Peruse the Bowling for Barbershop Toolkit in the Members Only Marketing Center Book the bowling center in your community and start planning your chapter s bowling event Encourage everyone to raise money by sending emails and making phone calls Send press releases Have fun!? 6
