Outstanding Students & Staff Seth Fortenberry, assistant principal at MHS, returned to the baseball diamond as part of the 2016 Baylor University Alumni Game. Mr. Fortenberry played for the Bears during the 2003-2006 seasons. Three MHS juniors were selected to serve as HOT Rodeo Sweethearts for 2016. Learning by Serving Senior Bailee Buchanan is helping train service dogs for the blind. Currently, Bailee is working with Dom. Dom attends classes with Bailee to how to behave in social settings. MES students participated in the annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser during the month of February. During their PE classes the students jumped rope to raise money for the American Heart Association. The MHS Student Council sponsored a fundraiser benefitting Leukemia & Lymphoma Research. Over $750 was raised for this worthwhile charity. Mrs. Thompson s 2nd period class was recognized as the top contributor.
Family Fun Night @ MPS McGregor Primary hosted a Family Fun Night Block Party to celebrate the writing of Dr. Seuss on March 2. Those in attendance enjoyed playing Seuss themed games and making Seuss themed crafts.
Celebrating Seuss @ MES March 2 was Dr. Suess birthday and Read Across America Day. McGregor Elementary celebrated the wackiness of the good doctor with their own Wacky Wednesday. Students and teachers dressed wacky and participated in DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time during the school day
#Promoting Reading Students at McGregor Elementary were treated to a visit by local author Marsha Thauwald. Ms. Thauwald wrote Big Southern Hair and Highlights: Please Don t Dye Without Us a fictional story about twins Cora Jean Trinity and Cara Louise Tune who were separated at birth. The story tells of the people they meet, the places they visit, and their experiences growing up in the south. Ms. Thauwald entertained the students with a book talk and skit about the story. She also taught the students how to write and present their own book talks. The visit sparked a new interest in reading among the students who are excited to start presenting their own book talks. The first grade students at McGregor Primary enjoyed reading Noelle the Bulldog as part of Read Across America Day. Mrs. Adcock read the book to the students. The class wants to thank former Fairfield ISD superintendent Tony Price who donated the book to the school. Learning sight words is an vital skill as students learn to read. These primary students could read all of their sight words for the fourth six-weeks. This is the largest group of students scoring 100 on their sight words test this year!
How Does Your Garden Grow? The Primary garden is growing again! Students planted potatoes and spinach in the planters located on the playground. Several classes started seeds for squash and zucchini. Those plants will be transplanted later in the season. The first grade classes have plans to grow tomatoes and peppers as well. They plan to make salsa with their harvest.
2nd Grade Celebrates Old West MES second grade students entertained their families and friends with a Western themed program on February 29. Students sang and danced their way through some classic cowboy music.

JH Career Day Over twenty local college and career representatives participated in the HG Isbill College and Career Day in late February. Students moved from room to room to listen to presentations about career interests.
1st Division Concert Band The MHS Concert Band earned first division ratings for their concert performance and for the sight-reading competition. Coupled with their first division marching performance in the fall, the MHS band will earn a sweepstakes award for the 2015-2016 contest season. MISD is proud of the Bulldog Pride!

Powerlifting: State Qualifiers! Ten Lady Dog powerlifters competed in the Region 2 Championships at Academy HS. Representing MHS were Sammi Augeri, Katie D Angelo, Ally Jacobs, Shaniqua Lee, Lauren Mosley, Essance Porter, Adriana Rodriguez, Angela Rost, Margaret Tippie, and Miranda Young. The group set 16 personal records on individual lifts. Sammi Augeri and Angela Rost advanced and will completed at the state meet in Corpus Christi on March 18.
A Look Back March 2011 Do you like green eggs and ham? Kindergarten students celebrated the work of Dr. Seuss by reading his books and participating in special events such as dressing up as the Cat in the Hat and eating green eggs and ham. Science Fair State Qualifiers Dawson Bates, Blake Boles, Margaret Tippie, Jordan Stroope, Jessica Lammert, Kassidy Buth, Camryn Thane, Drew Zacharias, Coltin Ayers, Angela Rost, Ashley Johnson, Mary Graves Outstanding Teacher McGregor Elementary Science Specialist Heidi Foster was recently named the VFW Teacher of the Year by the McGregor VFW post. Ms. Foster is also very active in community activities including Camp Fire USA and Relay for Life. Post Commander Manuel Nelson presented Ms. Foster with her award.
