Well, November s done and December is here. The year seems to be flying by. I hope everyone had relaxing time with family and friends last month. We are rapidly approaching our winter break, which signifies the end of our first semester. I am pleased to report that school is going very well this semester. Teachers and students are adjusting to the new career and academic planning (CAP) class, which I am super excited about. It is my personal opinion this is one of the most important classes we will ever teach. There have been some implementation bumps, which were expected. The staff and I have been working to make CAP even better class for our students. Our district is trying to place more emphasis on ACT scores for our college-bound students. During CAP class, some students took advantage of ACT preparation in November as a means of improving their composite scores for the December testing cycle. As the year progresses, we will be looking at multiple methods of preparation including adding ACT Fridays in some of our advanced courses. There will be more discussion on this in the coming weeks. Our district hosted an ACT class in which we invited students from neighboring districts to join. The students who attended, reported back to me they are excited for the chance to retake the ACT with the knowledge they learned while attending this class. This class will be offered again in the Spring and more information will be available from Mrs. Newton as the class approaches. The elementary students are completing their second round of IReady testing. Parents should be receiving updated data of your student s progress. I would also like to thank all of the elementary parents for their support with the class parties and candy bar sales. I would specifically like to thank Kendra Spade, Julie Lindsey, and Dawn Williams for all of their extra work with the candy bars sales. The candy bar money provides support for our student programs such as Lexia and technology in the elementary. Making the season memorable: It seems like kids want to enjoy their break by getting completely out of their normal routine. While an occasional sleep-in or staying up to watch a family movie is a great way to build memories, be careful not to completely ruin the work you have put in to establishing sleep/wake cycles that your child is successful with. When kids get out of routine, they are more tired and irritable which can spoil family time over the holiday season and make them more stressful. I hope this helps you have a more enjoyable holiday season and your children to easily adjust in January when class resumes. Student safety is always our highest priority at Lebo public school. We are in the process of taking steps to further protect our students. This month when you arrive at Lebo public school all the exterior doors will be locked. Upon arrival at the high school doors, you will notice a black box on the right hand door with a camera. There is a button located at the bottom. When the button is pushed it will ring in the office. Office personnel will then let you in. At the Elementary the entry box is located on the left hand door. You will need to enter through that door once the office personnel unlock it. As a reminder the Elementary office will be closed from 10:45-12:00 please use the high school entry. Again I apologize for the inconvenience but this is something that we must do to insure the safety of our students. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Duane Ford, Principa l

FCCLA Happenings 6 T he Classroom FCCLA members hosted the kindergarten and 1st grade book report parties on Oct. 26. We read them a story, made a snack and played games to celebrate them reaching their reading goals the 1st 9 weeks! On November 1, Lebo and Waverly FCCLA took 7 students to the Fall Leadership Conference that was held in Ottawa this year. The students had the opportunity to hear from one of the State FCCLA officers and attend interactive workshops presented by their Peer Ed Team. We also were able to enjoy the Keynote Speaker Dustin Galyon, Hesston College Basketball Coach. His message was AWESOME!
