From the President: President@belvoirbowhunters.com (757)469-8700 BBH Members and Friends: The WILD GAME DINNER is coming up on Saturday, 28 April, and if you ve been to it before, you know it s a hoot, and if you haven t been, C MON OUT! and see why it s a good event. It s a great social event, our opportunity to recognize our own folks, and is pretty much our main fundraiser that allows us to operate the Club for the rest of the year. The EB folks and the Awards Committee, and others, (notably Charlie Shupenius and Morgan Fink) have been working to get the event together: lining up the raffle prizes, figuring out the food, advertising, selling tickets, doing invitations, and all the other stuff required to make it work. So if you see any of them, say THANKS! I hope you will come out! Ok, a quick hunting story: So there I was one early morning in Montana (Stermitz Ranch; the outfitter is called Wilderness Connection) freezing my ass off sitting on the edge of a little meadow with my guide Eli, who s about 20 feet away. I had shot a nice elk a day earlier so I was already real happy and hey, if a nice mule deer came out, that would be the icing on the cake! Well, hell, in a couple hours, here comes this mule deer! This outfitter has a gentlemen s agreement with hunters that they only shoot a 4x4 or bigger or it s a $500 fee back to the outfitter and it ain t like I brought extra money on the trip, so I wanna be sure this thing is big enough to shoot! So I look over at Eli to see if he gives the thumbs up or down and he is sleeping like a baby! Ok, what now? I eased the rifle over a bit and got a good look at the mule deer and counted twice to make sure then BOOM! and he ran a little bit and fell over. WHOOOO hell yeah giddy up!! I look over at Eli, and he is STILL ASLEEP!!!! What the hell, you can t make this stuff up!! Gotta say, I didn t think anybody could sleep through that, but he did. A little bit later when he woke up, he said he didn t hear a thing! It was a great hunt! See you at the Wild Game Dinner! COME ON OUT TO THE WILD GAME DINNER IT S OUR PREMIER EVENT OF THE YEAR! From the Vice President: Vicepresident@belvoirbowhunters.com Indoor archery season is over, time to have some fun Outdoors. Before I talk about the bliss of shooting any type of Outdoor archery tournaments, I would like to recognize those Belvoir members who shot in our VBA State Indoor championship and the NFAA National Indoor tournament in Cincinnati, OH. First I would like to thank everyone who came out to Belvoir for the VBA State shoot whether you shot or not, everyone participated and made this year s shoot one of the best we have hosted, with a record number of shooters, amazing food, seamless teamwork from all the volunteers Page 2 of 14

and support from all those there to cheer each shooter on. Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you. The Belvoir shooters who won State championships are: PeeWee Male Barebow Cub Female Barebow Cub Male Bowhunter Freestyle Fingers Cub Male Traditional Youth Female BareBow Adult Female Traditional Adult Male Freestyle Fingers Adult Male Traditional Senior Female Bowhunter Freestyle/R Senior Female Traditional Silver Senior Male Bowhunter Freestyle/R Raylan Dishman Anastasia Dale Phoenix Dishman Keshi Ruiz Abbegael Allen Paula Schasberger Nitin Sharma Robert Jennings Doreen Rizopoulos Robin Vogel Pat Hamp We also had 9 more BBH members who placed 1 st, 2 nd, or 3 rd in their respective class and shooting styles. Congratulations to all who participated, win or not, it is all about the fun and fellowship of shooting. We also had 11 BBH members who traveled to Cincinnati, OH to shoot in the NFAA Nationals, all who went did well. Some standouts were Raylan Dishman finishing 3 rd in CMBB against 12 year olds, Jenifer Stoner finishing 2 nd in SFTRAD. Our other shooters were Jedd Greyshock, Kevin Brown, Logan Weller, Troy Stoner, Sawyer Dishman, Phoenix Dishman, Paul Vogel, Nitin Sharma, and Robin Vogel who all represented BBH and Virginia well. Again, I can t say this enough, Fun and Fellowship was the best part of the weekend. Hurray Outdoor season is here and with it many opportunities to experience Archery in many ways. Outdoor shoots include, Field/Hunter rounds, 28 regular paper targets, ranging from 10 to 80 yards, that are shot on a walk through course like our Outdoor range, 4 arrows each target, scoring from center, 5,4,3. Animal Rounds again are shot on a walking Outdoor course, Animal picture targets. 3D Archery, again shot on a walking course, 1 arrow, unmarked distances, at life size foam targets. All these types of shoots are offered in the area at local clubs, just look them up on your VBA shoot schedule card you received with your BBH membership, so come on out and have some fun outdoors. From the Activities Director: Activitiesdirector@belvoirbowhunters.com (703) 946-1063 The Next Big Event, is the opening day of the Spring Gobbler Season! I hope you have a chance to go out. April Presentation Rick Atchison will present highlights from the Southeastern Deer Study Group (SEDSG). Check them out at http://sedsg.com/ Come out and hear about the research and issue having to do with Deer Management. Send me a text or e-mail on suggestions for presentations for our meetings. From the Tourny Chair: Tournamentchair@belvoirbowhunters.com (915) 588-4667 Cub Run and NORVA are proposing a new twist to our 3D shoots this summer called the Local Club Challenge! Each club picks two of their tournaments and designates them as a Local Club Challenge Shoot. Each club designates two to three archers as representatives at each tournament to have their score recorded and tracked. At the end of the six shoots, whichever club is hosting the final shoot of the season will declare a club winner for the season. Bragging rights for a full year, and potentially a trophy, will be awarded to the winning club. There are some draft rules, and the proposed dates are: CUB RUN: 3/25 and 9/16, BELVOIR: 6/30 and 7/21, NORVA: 4/7 and 6/9. If you want to know more or be one of our representatives, please contact me. From the Range Warden: Rangewarden@belvoirbowhunters.com (256) 506-2482 This will be my last entry as Range Warden and I just want to say thank you for the opportunity to be part of a great organization. The passion that each and every one of you have for Archery is evident and I am glad that I got to experience that with you. I could not have done this job without the assistance of many people, to many to list but you all know who you are. It is those that without hesitation made yourself available for every work party, every tournament, and every time any type of maintenance needed to be completed. I want to mention someone who has been an advisor, confidant and wealth of knowledge anytime I needed to pick someone s brain about the best way to approach a situation. Steve Richards has a wealth of knowledge about the BBH Club, ODR ranges, the process to get projects complete and the connections to make it happen. There has never been a time that I called him for advice or assistance that he did not immediately make himself available or meet to discuss a situation. Steve, thanks for all of your assistance and solutions to help make this a best Archery organization available. Special thanks to both the former and current Presidents Bakari Dale and Larry Readal for the vote of confidence and support with any recommendation that I had. The leadership of this club has been tremendous during my tenure and I have appreciated the continued support. Thanks again to you all for making Archery such a great sport. James R. Nominate folks for awards, and bring your animals. Hey, it is the cheapest buffet anywhere and free beer too. There was no Old Business to discuss. Larry went over the New Business items from the VBA meeting to be voted on the April meeting. All three items listed below were voted on and passed by the club: 1. Section 15.1.10, Registration fees, pg. 12: Add Sect. E: A 80% refund will be sent to preregistered shooters upon a written request submitted within 2 weeks of tournament. The host club may keep 20% of fee and send refund within 14 Page 13 of 14

days to shooter. Effective: immediately. Justification: Change wording in By-Laws as there is no section for refunds. Change pg. 11 to 12 to fit in new By-law printing. 2. Require the posting of all agenda items with submitting clubs name to the Flight issue, directly following the VBA quarterly meeting. Posting of voting results of agenda items to include the roll call votes for each item in the Flight magazine, following the votes. Effective immediately. Justification: Many members do not attend club meetings and deserve to know what changes are being proposed by clubs and the results of such. Also, this might spark interest in the VBA and encourage more members to attend club meetings to be able to discuss the changes and have their vote counted. 3. Bowhunters of Rockingham would like the VBA to donate a 48 X48 block target to the Town of Shenandoah for their new range. Effective Immediately. Justification: We believe this will help grow the sport of archery and promote the VBA. This may also help increase membership for BOR and Massanutten Archery Clubs. Hearing no more items for the Good of the Order, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM. The Turkey hunting presentation from Kevin Walter began at 7:40.
