The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky has turned this community asset building campaign over to the Perry County Community Foundation. Of the 14 non-profits of last year, only 7 will be supported this year and the other 7 in in 2018. Perry County 4-H Program was drawn in the first lot so will be included in this year event. Teen leaders, Skyler Turner and Ava Dixon, served as ambassadors at this drawing. 2
4-H ers Learn to Sew and Serge It s fun to make things that you can use. Youth that signed up for the Annual 4-H Sewing Workshop found this out. Some of them made a handy tote using quilted fabrics or the more advanced class of a duffle bag and matching cosmetic bag. Volunteer leaders, Nancy Pratt and Cheryl Leabo, along with FCS agent Glenna Wooten worked with the girls with skills in both using the sewing machine as well as the more skilled-based serging machine. Below you can see by the smiles, the girls were very pleased with their project. In Memoriam Many 4-H ers that have attended 4-H Camp over the years, may remember Mr. James Phelps as our neighboring 4-H agent in Knott County that served so wonderfully as the Rifle Instructor or taught them all the Night Hike sounds of frogs and birds, pointing out the glowworms in the woods. We will miss you, Jim! Rest in Peace. 3

Dr. Jacquie Jacob, UK Specialist, worked with an active group of 4-H ers this summer in preparation of the KY 4-H BBQ Contest in July. The youth learned to safely prepare the charcoal grill, to prep the chicken halves, and to make sure they follow safe food handling guidelines with raw meat. After cooking, the whole delegation enjoyed eating the BBQ along with a few side dishes.
