Safety Tips for Baltimore Streets 1. While walking around Baltimore, stay alert and be very vigilant in observing your surroundings. Know who is in of front and behind you. 2. Confidence counts. Thieves look for easy targets. Stand tall, walk purposely, and make quick eye contact with people around you. 3. Carry your purse, briefcase, or laptop bag close to your body, not dangling from the straps, and keep a good grip on it. Carry your wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket. 4. Stay off your cell phone while you are walking around Baltimore streets. Please be wise, mobile devices distract you and have street value to thieves. 5. Don t count your money in public or display large amounts of cash or jewelry. 6. If you re working late or have to walk through an unfamiliar area, have a friend walk with you. Downtown s Safety Guide Escort Service The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore employees staff who walk the streets like safety guides and are equipped with radios to enable them to report back to headquarters. These guides, in the blue and yellow uniforms, are a helpful presence in the downtown area. If you are lost and need directions, they can assist you. If you would like someone to escort you to the hotel or public transportation stop, call 1-410- 244-8778 for a Downtown Safety Guide. Safety Guide Escorts are provided by the Downtown Partnership and CRS is a partner. The Escorts are free of charge and are available Monday through Friday: Oct - Apr until 7:30 p.m. May - Sept until 10:30 p.m. Security within the building The building is well-equipped with state-of-the-art cameras on the perimeter of the building as well as in the elevators to monitor any situation. In addition, there are two security guards on rotating duty in the lobby. Visitors to headquarters will be issued a visitor s identification card and an access card for the elevators. Please safeguard these two cards throughout your visit and be sure to return both at the end of your visit. If you lose the access card, please report it to 1-410-340-9619 immediately, so the access card may be deactivated. In case of an emergency in the building - For any physical emergencies, it is important to first call 911. Your second call should be to extension 3110 to reach the security guards at the Front Desk, advising them you have called 911. Let the emergency people know exactly what has happened. In the case of an emergency outside of the building -- call 911. 3
