What is a TSPLOST? SPLOST is a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). It is a sales tax used to fund capital outlay projects proposed by county and municipal governments. TSPLOST is a Transportation SPLOST which allocates up to a 1% sales tax and the capital outlays are intended for transportation purposes only, as is defined in O.C.G.A. Section 48-8-260(5) TSPLOST is currently in effect for 46 counties in the State of Georgia.
How much money will be generated by a TSPLOST for transportation projects? It is anticipated that the TSPLOST will bring in approximately $700,000 per month The TSPLOST is scheduled to run for 60 months or 5 years and should generate approximately $42 million over that period of time. It is estimated that up to 40% of collections will be paid by out of county residents.

What dirt roads will be on the County list for paving? The roads for paving in Spalding County have been broken into three tiers. The Board of Commissioners asked that a list of 15 unpaved roads be submitted for preliminary engineering. Due to the costs to pave the dirt roads the list has been divided into tiers and the projects will move through the list of tiers should the requirements for paving a dirt road not be met, then the project will be moved to the next road on the list. Tier 1 projects will be the first roads scheduled for paving.
