Edition 30 - APRIL 2016 ions of Interest - Selection Committeee As part of the process to establish the various committees required to conduct the business of Berwick Expressions of Interest - Selection Committees As part of the process to establish the various committees required to conduct the business of Berwick Bowling Club, and leading into the AGM, we had previously called for nominations for the two positions of Chairman of Selectors for Mid Week Pennant Selection Committee and Chairman of Saturday Pennant Selection Committee. The successful candidates were Cliff Fothergill who was elected unopposed as Chairman of Mid Week Pennant Selection with Graeme Manifold being elected as Chairman of Saturday Selection. Our congratulations to Cliff and Graeme. We must now proceed to the next step, which is the establishment of the respective Selection Committees and call for members who are interested in offering their services as a Selector for either/both Committees to nominate. Page 1
If you wish to proceed, members are requested to contact Chairman of Bowls Section Jeff Janetzki and lodge your Expression of Interest in taking up a position as Selector. All those who have expressed interest will then be invited to attend an interview with a Panel comprising of the Chairman of the relevant Selection Committee and Jeff Janetzki Chairman Bowls Section and Ed Wilson Chairman of Board of Management. The interview process will be very simple and straight forward, primarily to ascertain from the nominee the attributes and benefits that they will bring to the Selection table. The interview panel will then recommend to the Bowls Committee 4 names for appointment to the respective Selection Committee and the Bowls Committee will then make the decision of appointments to the Selection Committees. If you have any questions about the role of Selector, and/or the process please do not hesitate to contact me. Members are requested to lodge their Expressions of Interest by 11 th May 2016 by posting the note in the internal mailbox for my attention, or by email to jeff@janetzki.net. Pennant Availability It is extremely important that if you are intending to play Pennant next season, (either/both in Mid Week or Saturday pennant) that you record your availability, immediately, on the sheets on the slopes. We have to advise Bowls Vic by 30 th June of the number of sides that we require for season 2016-17 and that number can only be determined by the names on the Availability List as at that date. Late recording of names only means that come the season we will possibly have more players than can be accommodated in the number of sides entered. That will then mean that someone will miss out on a game. So this request is simply asking you to be fair to your fellow club members as you would not like to be the one who has to miss because some members made their decision after the closing date. Expressions of Interest - Positions - Tournaments We have previously made appeals for club members to volunteer for the many positions within the club. All these positions need to be filled, for without your contribution to the club, by volunteering, we cannot continue to operate in the same manner and provide all those various facilities, services, events etc. that we have come to expect as part of this Club. However this call is specifically made for volunteers to assist in the conduct of tournaments. We have 5 tournaments planned for next season (including the Monday Aggregate Triples) and we cannot run any of these without your help. Page 2
If you are able to assist in this matter, or any other position in the club or perhaps would like to assist but not sure what you would be required to do, please contact me as soon as possible. Jeff Janetzki Chairman Bowls Section Club Uniforms The Club carries a full range of uniforms, shirts, pants, jackets, hats and caps. Let s face it life is too short to dwell on your bowling wins and losses. Have some fun during your time on the green share a laugh and some friendly bowls banter with your opponents. With the kind assistance of cartoonist Ron Ako Atkinson, the following may give you a laugh. Lady bowlers come and go Dress rules go on forever How dare you try to make a change No never, never, never. The men think we are a joke and look like mobs of sheep With madam snapping at our heels It's to the rules you'll keep. The young are keen to play the game But won't of course unless We put some colour on our frame And try to change our dress. The men indeed have got more sense Their rules are not so stuffy They have more fun and play the game You've guessed it; dressed in 'mufti'. Page 3
