From the President Christmas and New Year A fairly good response to patrols from members over the peak of the holiday break even though many people were away over the period. I have to mention the efforts of Terry Colby who was a fixture at the club during this time, either on the beach patrolling or up at the club organising gear and uniforms. Thanks TC, definitely going above and beyond the call of duty. Clubrooms We also had a break over Christmas though the mind kept turning over. We ll be continuing our review of the early concept drawings and our negotiations with the MRA, City of Stirling and the architects over the next couple of weeks. The swim is on this Saturday and if you can help either for setting up, providing water safety, working in hall and kitchen or tidying up later that would be appreciated. Setup from 6:15am, or if you re really keen you could swim.

You must have your Bronze Medallion, be financial and at least 15 years of age. The course will take place in late January if enough interest is shown (minimum 10 people) Lifesaving Those members who recently gained their Surf Rescue Certificate are now being added to patrols. If you have any preference as to which patrol you join, then please advise me when your uniform is being issued. Uniforms will be issued at the club this weekend, between 2 and on Saturday arvo and 10-12 mid-day on Sunday. If you cant make it then, another day will be arranged, but as always, first in-best dressed. Patrols over the festive break were sadly depleted, with members choosing not to turn up or give prior notice. Currently our contract requires that we man patrols at both Brighton and Scarborough, and have a person in the tower. On several days, we were really scratching to do this. The low-point was the day when the Beach Inspectors were discussing bringing members down from Triggs to cover our shortages. Really? On OUR beach? I did notice our President, Al CARVILLE was lurking at the start of patrols, ever willing to make up the numbers. With the planned changes to the beachfront, it has never been so vital that we present an effective and relevant service. Thefts from the clubrooms have unfortunately started up over the past fortnight. It started with Marty's bag being taken from the table in front of the First-Aid Room on a busy morning with all us usual loiterers present. A mobile phone has disappeared from the ladies change rooms and clothing left behind lately seems to grow legs. The one that really sunk home, was when, after numerous requests from the public to the patrol for sun screen, I raced over to the Chemist, bought a $34 tub of it, and marked it up with the club name, before putting it in the patrol van. Needless to say, the following day, it was gone. Terry Colby
