May 2017, Volume 19, Issue 5 Message from the President First of all, I want to thank the many club members who sent well wishes and prayers for a good outcome and speedy recovery from my recent surgery. The surgery went well and the recovery is proceeding very nicely. One of the many things I have been very impressed with during my time as a member of OSC is the genuine concern our members show for each other. It makes me proud to belong to the club. Well, another successful Spring Folly Car Show is now under our belts. Although attendance was down somewhat from last year (largely, I am sure due to the weather, which was not ideal), the show field was filled with about a hundred beautiful cars. As usual, our members cars received a lot of attention by the Folly attendees. And, the Movie / TV cars assembled by Ruth Ann were a big hit. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of Ruth Ann, John and the many other club members who volunteered to help with registration, directing parking of the show cars and judging those cars. We could have used a few more helpers in some areas, but those who were able to help out were greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone for a job well done. We are now moving into the heart of our driving season. We will have many opportunities to drive and display our cars during the upcoming months. Ruth Ann will have information about those events that are coming up soon during our meeting at the Olympic next Tuesday. See you there! Nelson May Meeting Olympic Restaurant Kernersville AACA s Old Salem Chapter monthly meeting will be Tuesday, May 16 th at The Olympic Restaurant, 1541 W. Mountain St., in Kernersville. Dinner starts at 6:00 PM and the business part of the meeting will start at 7:00 PM. Don t forget to invite and/or bring your antique/classic vehicle friend(s) with you for a fun evening! See ya Tuesday for some great food, fun, and fellowship! Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities On Saturday, May 20 th, our OSC has again been invited to see the amazing 200+ car collection of Mr. Harlan Bowling s in Ridgeway, VA, arriving at 10:00 AM. Our member Gurney Yokeley received a phone call from Mr. Bowling letting him know that he will be having an Open House for anyone that would like to come see his collection so this is open to whoever would like to go invite your friends! I know many of our OSC members have seen his collection but Mr. Bowling is constantly buying and not selling so chances are you would see something new if you go again. HEADS UP TO OUR NEW MEMBERS! THIS IS A COLLECTION YOU WON T WANT TO MISS, BELIEVE ME! You will come away from there not believing what you just saw! Sooo if there is any way you can make this one, I would encourage you to do so! 3

Our club will meet at the McDonald s on Hwy. 158 in Walkertown at 9:00 AM and leave out of there shortly after that, with Gurney Yokeley leading the way. Please park in their parking lot closest to Taco Bell, hopefully it won t be as congested on that side since it is a Saturday morning and everybody and his brother will be there heehee! PLEASE RSVP TO ME IF YOU WILL BE GOING SO I CAN LET GURNEY KNOW. And as always, drive your Classics, weather permitting, that is ½ the fun of what our Outings are all about getting those great cars out of the garage and driving them! Mountain St., Kville, for a special car display as part of the day s events from 11:00 to 4:00 pm. There will be Veterans Services, Military Displays, Kids Activities, and Food Trucks on site. Also, attending are the 82 nd Airborne Band, our gals from Letters From Home, Silk Groove, & more. It sounds like a really fun day to honor our very special Veterans! On Friday, May 26 th, our OSC has been asked to provide a car display at the Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community at 1240 Arbor Rd., Winston-Salem, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, for their residents. It will be themed Flashback Festival to bring back those fond memories for them. I am told there will be a DJ playing the Oldies and we should have a little snack while there. Help us put some smiles on these people s faces, we are only asking a few hours of your time. PLEASE RSVP TO ME ASAP! Thanx so much! 4

On Sunday, May 28 th, there is a Cruise-In at King Baptist Church, 122 Kirby Rd., King, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM that we are encouraged to attend. I was notified of this event by our member Charlie Watson who belongs to this church so it would be great if our members were there to support it. Free Hot Dogs, Live Bluegrass Music, & Greater Vision Concert starting at 6 PM. Just show up with your beautiful cars! Sunday, June 4 th, will be the FIRST Cruise-In for Tre Nonne Italian Restaurant, 177 Jonestown Rd., WS, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. The owner of the restaurant, Tony Maresca, phoned me to get some direction on what to do and how to get it started, seems like a very nice fella and very anxious to have summer Cruise- Ins. He is wanting to have them the 1 st & 3 rd Sundays in June through August and will be offering a discounted Italian meal for those attending. All of the rest of the details are still forthcoming but I am asking for your support for this gentleman to get this off the ground for him. DOESN T A NICE ITALIAN MEAL SOUND GREAT FOR A SUNDAY AFTERNOON?! The Tre Nonne Story: Three Grandmothers, One Kitchen The Tre Nonne story begins, of course, in the old country. Hailing from Naples and Calabria for generations the forerunners of the Maresca family took great pride and enjoyment in preparing the finest traditional Italian meals, served with the utmost hospitality. When Alice DeLuca (Dolly) and her family passed through Ellis Island at the turn of the century, she brought with her an old world devotion to good cooking, and good fellowship to the new world. Ann Vitale came to the new world from Naples, and hung her laundry on a wire across Mulberry Street. Ann worked in the meat department at her local supermarket. Always in the kitchen, her authentic recipes still guide us today. Alice Maresca lived her life with a flair for Italian cooking and longevity. She spent many years working for a Manhattan hat maker, all the while perfecting her technique in her home kitchen. The recipes here at Tre Nonne are inspired by the memory of Sunday dinners gone by. The fabulous cooking, family, and friendship from the three family matriarchs The Tre Nonnes Alice, Dolly, and Ann inspires every meal we serve hearty and delicious pasta, made fresh the old way, perfectly prepared and seasoned meats, fresh salads and, of course, the delectable sauces our own version of Sunday gravy! Just like in their kitchens, we honor the spirit of old fashioned Italian hospitality and strive to make sure you leave full and with a smile on your face! Saturday, June 10th... time for our OSC Downtown Kernersville Cruise-Ins to start! They will all be held on the second Saturday of each month, June thru October, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Of course, our volunteers will need to be there around 2:30 pm and then Main Street will be closed at 3:00 pm. We will be having the 50/50 drawing again this year and we will also be selling water and baked goods again. Sooo all you bakers out there, we NEED YOUR DONATIONS, PLEASE! 5

We are very fortunate again this year to have returning sponsors for our Cruise-Ins: VESTAL BUICK GMC, KERNERSVILLE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, POPE COMPANIES, RIDGE CARE, and LAMBE REALTY! WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND SHOUT OUT A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM! Sunday, June 11 th, will find us offered another new opportunity to share our beautiful old Classics. Through our member Katrina Meeks, the Arts Council requested our OSC to provide a car display at their first 2017 Summer Parks Series at the Triad Park, 9652 E. Mountain St., Kville. The gates open at 4:00 PM, asking us to be there at that time, and then the North Carolina Brass Band Concert starts at 5:00 pm. This should be a really nice evening to spend at the beautiful Triad Park. We encourage a good representation from our OSC since the Arts Council supported our Cruise-In a few years back with a $500 Arts Grant to put our Cruise-In on and Arts Council vendors came to our Cruise-In, too sooo now it is time for us to give back to them. PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT THIS EFFORT FOR THEM. Be sure to note that our OSC is included in the flyer below with a short paragraph and also our logo so they are very anxious for us to participate. PLEASE RSVP ME ASAP FOR YOUR ATTENDANCE! And don t forget to bring your chairs! 6
