**HOMECOMING COMPETITION INFORMATION** Forming a Team: Organizations may compete separately or they may join forces to form a team. This must be specified in the packet your team files and you must specify your team name. Any group of 5 or more students can form a team even without an official organization and must create an official team name. How to Earn Points: There are three (3) ways to earn points during Homecoming Week: attendance, competition, and spirit. Each of the three is described below. Attendance Point Rules: Every event is an opportunity to win attendance points. Just by participating, you earn points for your team. To earn these points, every member of your team in attendance must check in at the SAC Homecoming Check-In Table located at each event. To sign in, you must show your student ID to the SAC member working at the table and specify which team you are representing. Every day event is worth a maximum of 5 attendance points. The team with the most participants attending will receive 5 points; the team with the second most attendants gets 4 points, and so on. Every team who participates and did not win 1 st, 2 nd, or 3 rd will earn 2 attendance points. Spirit Point Rules: Every event presents the opportunity to win spirit points. By showing your UNO spirit, you can win up to 5 points at most events for your team. Points can be deducted, however, for unsportsmanlike conduct and bad attitudes, so keep it positive! Here are some ideas to increase your spirit points: Chant cheers and be supportive of our UNO basketball teams Be positive and supportive of all events and people involved in Homecoming Week. HAVE FUN! *It is very important during Homecoming to show our support for UNO and the UNO Basketball team. Therefore, spirit points for the game will be worth 25 points. In order to get the most points, you should really show your school spirit through your attire, cheering, and attitude!! Competition Point Rules: Competition points are awarded based on how teams place in the different competition events throughout the week. Every competition event will offer your team the possibility to earn points. First place will be awarded 15 points, second place will win 10 points, and third place will win 5 points. *Each of the competitions has different rules that will be detailed in each individual description in the Events section of the packet (pages 7-10). 5

If one of the members on your team is on the Homecoming Court, your team will be awarded 5 points. King and Queen will win 15. More information on Homecoming Court will be listed later in the packet. If any of the rules for an event are broken, your team will be disqualified and will not receive any points for that event. That includes attendance, spirit, and competition points, so it is important to be mindful of the rules. In the event of a tie, the Student Activities Council Executive Board will decide the winner. The decision will be based on which of the organizations contributed the most to Homecoming with enthusiasm, and any other ways considered significant. All judging decisions are FINAL. The announcement of competition winners will be announced during the Homecoming Dance and the Homecoming Court will be announced during halftime on the basketball court. 6

**EVENTS** Kickoff/Decorating the Quad Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 12:30PM in the Quad Kickoff: Show your school spirit while enjoying free food and drinks in the Quad from 12:30-1:30PM. Also cheer on the UNO Basketball team and meet the UNO Homecoming Court Candidates who will be introduced at that time! Show your UNO spirit for points! Decorating the Quad: Teams will receive participation points for decorating the quad. Make sure your team members checkin with an SAC representative. SAC will provide spray paint for use on the grass, some chalk, and ribbons. When we are done, no student should be able to miss the homecoming spirit around campus. Only water-soluble chalk may be used on the sidewalks. Things to write in chalk are all the days and times of the Homecoming events, Saturday s basketball game, and UNO spirited messages like Go UNO! or Let s Go Privateers! etc. Please do not simply write your organizations name while decorating the Quad. If any team only promotes their organization, Greek letters, or any equivalent, that team will receive fewer points for Kickoff. Decorating the Quad is one of the most important things teams can do to get the student body ready and excited about Homecoming Week! This is not to be used as an outlet to advertise your own organization along with Homecoming Week. Only the information outlined later in the packet should be used. NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM. Musical Performance: Six Appeal Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 7:00PM in the UC Ballroom Six Appeal has been a growing force in the Midwest music scene since 2006. This contemporary group takes the original a cappella idea and expands it to a full-blown vocal band concert experience. Six Appeal charms and entertains crowds armed with a dynamic collection of powerful vocalists with the passion to amaze. Six Appeal is able to excite audiences with their mix of Classic oldies, current hits and their captivating original songs. Join SAC for this awesome experience returning to UNO for a special Homecoming performance. Spirit and attendance points will be awarded to teams who show up with positive attitudes!! NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM 7

Pick-a-Privateer Wednesday, January 21, 2015 all day on the UNO Lakefront Campus This is a special opportunity for the student body to get to know our basketball team a little more intimately. The basketball team will be sporting their jerseys all day to show some UNO Pride. If you catch one of the team members on campus, give them a high five and say, good luck, Privateer! They will be handing out tokens of appreciation to those students who participate. Collect as many tokens as you can and exchange them in UC 222 for some exciting Homecoming spirit prizes. NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM Pep Rally Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at noon in the UC Atrium Come build the hype with the UNO Cheerleaders, Dance Team, and Basketball Team to get excited for Game Day! UNO students, faculty, and staff will gather round to enjoy some creative performances. SAC will announce players and cheer them on for some pre-game excitement. Be on the lookout for some UNO spirit swag! Show your school spirit and earn spirit points for your homecoming team. NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM Homecoming Banner Competition Must be submitted by 4:00PM on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the SIL Office UC 222 We are going to show the team our support at the game with Homecoming Banners! The planned design of your banner should be turned in with your team packet for approval. No banners will be hung at the game if they are not approved by SAC. Make sure your team name is on the banner and entails the Basketball game. Banners may not exceed 3 feet in height and 6 feet in length. There can be no glitter on the banners! Banners will be judged on creativity and overall appearance. These banners will be hung in the UNO Lakefront Arena prior to the Homecoming Game. Again, banners must be submitted by 4:00PM on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the SIL Office UC 222. Trivia Night Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 7:00PM in the Innsbruck Suite Get your team together and come out for a fun trivia night! There will be five different categories with ten questions in each category. There is the opportunity to win competition points, as well as attendance and spirit points. For coming out to this great evening event, teams can earn three times the attendance points for this event. For this event, ALUMNI MEMBERS of your groups can also be counted in attendance! Groups can be a maximum of eight (8) members for this event; you can have more than one group per team. NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM. 8

90 s Throwback Carnival Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 11AM in the UC Atrium This Homecoming event is all about fun and celebrating retro UNO! Free for all students, there will be novelties, food, and plenty of other fun activities to remember the good ol days of Nickelodeon, scrunchies, and slinkies! Even create memories with new friends at a totally rad photo- op! Attendance and Spirit points will be awarded to the teams who arrive and participate with positive attitudes! NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM. Game Day Saturday, January 24, 2015 at The UNO Lakefront Arena Tailgate: Enjoy free food, drinks, and mini games outside of The Arena with UNO students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public. Live musical performances will be featured on the main stage. UNO organizations, clubs, and Greek life will be sharing food items with enthusiastic participants. Join the fun Saturday and get ready for the big games! Double Header Basketball Games: The Homecoming Basketball Games are what Homecoming is all about! Game Day is the biggest spirit event of the week, and every team s spirit will be assessed by the SAC Executive Board for points at the game. For spirit points, your team can dress in school spirit attire, cheer, chant, sing, have signs, pompoms, foam swords and accessories. This is the time to be creative! The King, Queen, and court will be crowned at a ceremony during halftime. The winners of Homecoming Week will be announced immediately after the conclusion of the first game. NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM. Homecoming Dance Saturday, January 24, 2015 after the men s basketball game in the Auxiliary Gym, Lakefront Arena The dance is the wrap-up event of the homecoming week, and it s one of the most fun! Come out in your best attire to celebrate UNO and the end of the Homecoming week. Watch the crowned court dance their first song as UNO s 2015 Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen. Spirit and Attendance points will be awarded for this event, and the Winning Team will be announced at the dance! NOTE: YOU MUST BRING YOUR STUDENT ID TO SIGN IN FOR YOUR HOMECOMING TEAM. 9
