Race 1 taste of spring raceday aug 13 maiden hurdle - 3200 metres: The start of the race was delayed to avoid a clash with an interstate venue. Refectory (IRE) Slow to begin. Dusty Mamba After negotiating the first obstacle was steadied when crowded for room between Dont Be Shy and El Disparo (NZ), both of which shifted ground slightly. Cougar Express Jumped the fourth obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the fifth obstacle awkwardly. Lost its near fore plate during the race. Dubai Escapade Jumped the third obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the fifth obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the sixth obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the eighth obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the second last obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the last obstacle awkwardly. Performance queried. Rider John Allen reported the gelding did not jump well throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Subsequent to the race Lee Horner was examined by the RV Doctor and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagement. Race 2 national heating & cooling 1jw hurdle - 3200 metres: Babbage Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jumped the second obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the third obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the sixth obstacle awkwardly, knuckled on landing and following this incident was eased out of the race by its rider Shane Jackson. Shane Jackson reported the gelding was sound, however after making several mistakes he elected to retire his mount from the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The performance of the gelding will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel for assessment. The Narcissist Slow to begin. After jumping the second obstacle was steadied to avoid the heels of Abraxas which shifted out. Mujadale Jumped the third obstacle awkwardly. Jumped the sixth obstacle awkwardly. Laid out rounding the turn. Lost its near hind plate during the race. When questioned rider Tom Ryan stated after leading comfortably his mount was inclined to switch off through the middle stages and came back to the field. Tom Ryan added his mount was off the bridle rounding the turn when inclined to lay out and may benefit from the addition of blinkers. Oerter Jumped the eighth obstacle awkwardly. Rider Clayton Douglas reported that the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action on return to the mounting yard. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the left fore leg. Trainer Brett Scott was notified that prior to racing again he must be in receipt of a veterinary certificate of soundness. Tremec (NZ) Leaving the 1000m was steadied when awkwardly placed between The Narcissist and Who Says Im Ready (NZ). Race 3 brendan dreschsler hurdle - 3600 metres: Twin Tea Bags Began awkwardly and lost ground. Performance queried. Rider Shane Jackson reported the gelding jumped well however was outclassed. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Renew (IRE) Jumped the ninth obstacle awkwardly. Performed below market expectations. Rider John Allen reported the gelding jumped well however never travelled well. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding in the straight and if an opportunity presented to ease his mount out of the event, John Allen stated initially he was unable to do so when Twin Tea Bags was to his outside and whilst he had contemplated retiring Renew before the last jump, he added the gelding had responded when Twin Tea Bags raced passed him and reiterated his mount had been jumping well. No action was taken against John Allen other than to remind him of his obligations to retire his mounts when out of contention. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A post race swab sample was taken. Trainer Darren Weir will be contacted in the coming days to check if any matter has arisen which may have affected the performance. Sea King (NZ) Approaching the winning post with a lap to travel had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Wish Come True (IRE) that shifted in. Rider Clayton Douglas (Wish Come True (IRE)) was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Race 4 ecycle solutions mosstrooper steeplechase - 3600 metres: Something To Share Late scratching at 11.35am. Pre- race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the left foreleg. Trainer Dane Smith was notified that prior to racing again he must be in receipt of a veterinary certificate of soundness. When markets opened the Victorian Official Price System listed an opening price ($21) for Something To Share despite the gelding being declared a late scratching at 11.35am. Stewards ordered no deductions were applicable. King Of The Forest Jumped the fourth obstacle awkwardly. Nishiazabu Made a faulty jump at the fifth obstacle. Was eased out of the event from the 800m and failed to negotiate the final two obstacles. Rider Paul Hamblin reported he had been instructed to lead on the gelding and added his mount did not travel well after making a mistake near the 3000m. After negotiating the final obstacle was checked by the fallen Angelology (NZ). Ill AvaAlf (NZ) When negotiating the tenth obstacle was hampered by the riderless Over The Yardarm (NZ). After negotiating the final obstacle was checked to avoid the fallen Angelology (NZ). Try Four Passing the 600m had to be steadied when tightened between King Of The Forest and Mannertone that was laying out under pressure. Performed below market expectations. Approaching the 200m had to be steadied when inconvenienced by Empire Liberty that shifted out before being straightened by its rider Jack Hill. Say It In Song Began awkwardly. Overraced and raced very ungenerously in the early stages and was continually steadied to avoid the heels of Minoan Spirit for some distance. New Horizons (JPN) Slow to begin. Beaten $1.80 favourite. Rider Brad Rawiller reported that the colt had every opportunity. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Minoan Spirit Overraced in the early and middle stages. Deregold Approaching the 1000m commenced to overrace badly and was continually steadied to avoid the heels of Mikali until passing the 600m. Passing the 1000m when overracing had to be eased to avoid the heels of Mikali that shifted in. Rider Adam McCabe (Mikali) was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Stradista Near the 700m was steadied to avoid the heels of Juniper Girl when the pace slackened. Zhao Zi Long Near the 700m was steadied to avoid the heels of Stradista when the pace slackened.
Childed Raced wide without cover throughout. Race 6 brb electgrical bm64 handicap - 1100 metres: Danvito (NZ) Slow to begin (2L). Rider Jordan Grob reported after being slow to begin the gelding was reluctant to race in the early and middle stages. Duro Canyon Settled in a forward position. When questioned rider Jacques Luxe stated it was not his intention to race forward however after beginning well and being caught wide, he felt it would be detrimental to his chances to then restrain. Passing the 200m shifted out marginally to avoid the heels of Duro Canyon and in doing so inconvenienced Sirens Reward out onto Mr Cooley. Shortly after was straightened by rider Michael Walker and shifted in inconveniencing Fastlane To Heaven that was steadied by rider Jarrod Fry. Performance queried. Rider Michael Walker could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Del Piero Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Approaching the 200m was checked when disappointed for a narrow run between Fastlane To Heaven and Eastern Pegasus which shifted out slightly. Approaching the winning post was severely checked when crowded for room between Menabrea which shifted out slightly and Contilla (Linda Meech) which shifted in under pressure. Fastlane To Heaven Shortly after passing the 200m was inconvenienced by Secret Obsession that shifted in after being straightened. Contilla Approaching the winning post became severely unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by Del Piero and as a result was unable to be ridden out fully to the line by its rider Linda Meech. Menabrea Approaching the winning post became unbalanced after shifting out slightly and brushing with Del Piero. Mr Cooley Raced wide without cover throughout. Sirens Reward Performed below market expectations. Rider Damian Lane could offer no explanation for the filly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Linda Meech (Contilla) Pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that approaching the finish line, Linda Meech carelessly permitted Contilla to shift in when being ridden along when not sufficiently clear of Del Piero that has been checked and lost its rightful running between Menabrea that the Stewards conceded shifted out marginally, and Contilla that shifted in, also becoming unbalanced. Linda Meechs licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight 24 July 2017 and to expire at midnight 3 August 2017. (10 meetings, 2 metropolitan, 8
provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards considered the incident to be in the mid range and took into account her guilty plea, good record and the contribution from Menabrea. Act Of Valour Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and got its head up on several occasions. Performed below market expectations. Giroux Began awkwardly. Zeze Ulater Slow to begin. Passing the 1100m commenced to race very fiercely when being restrained to obtain cover and shifted out placing its rider at a disadvantage. Near the 300m shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip. Crisalli Inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight. Rider Juana Andreou reported that the mare may be better suited dropping back in distance to 1200m. Juana Andreou was reminded of her obligations to ride her mount fully out to the end of the race.
