NSC Shooters bring home five trophies from the ATA Illinois Northern Zone shoot The 2015 ATA season ended on August 31, but the 2016 target year is already well under way. NSC members started the season on a high note, bringing home five trophies from the Illinois Northern Zone shoot. The Northern Illinois Zone shoot was held at the St. Charles Sportsmen s Club on Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13. Although open to all ATA shooters, only shooters from the northern zone of Illinois are eligible for the zone trophies. NSC shooters were out in force on both days, with 12 shooters from NSC competing - Scott Calhoun, Mike Moore, Josh Wexelbaum, Denny Mills, Tom Jorstad, Tom Krolick, Tom Clark, Ray Wieser, Rich Kelly, David Peace, Nenad Trickovski and Bob Pfister all shot in at least one event. David Peace is a new ATA member and these were his first registered targets, and Tom Krolick returned to ATA shooting after a two-year layoff. What s Happening On Saturday October3rd, the Naperville Park District celebrated the Grand Re-Opening of our club with a ceremony held outside the Naperville Sportsman s Clubhouse. The event featured distinguished speakers including our President Jim Monk. It was a short program and thankfully also were the speeches. The photograph is of President Jim Monk at the speaker s podium flanked by Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico and Naperville Park District Vice President Rich Janor. Many of our Board of Directors were present to enjoy the ceremony followed by donuts and coffee. Good job Jim. NSC shooters claimed five trophies over two days. In the 200 singles event on Saturday, Mike Moore recorded a 197 to take the AA class winner s trophy, just missing the event champion trophy that was won with a 198. Denny Mills posted a 188 which was good enough for the Class B runner-up trophy. In the doubles event on Sunday NSC shooters brought home three trophies. Josh Wexelbaum won the C class winner s trophy with a score of 90, while Rich Kelly and Ray Wieser recorded scores of 83 to take the D Class winner and runner-up trophies, respectively....scott Calhoun Ray Courney
NSC hosts National Trapshooting Day ATA event, has record turnout The ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association) designated Sunday, October 11 as National Trapshooting Day for 2015. As part of that designation, the ATA encouraged all clubs to host some sort of event as part of National Trapshooting Day. The ATA developed a commemorative pin for shooters and arranged for NTD-themed trophies for any clubs wishing to hold a shoot as part of National Trapshooting Day. NSC hosted an ATA registered shoot for National Trapshooting Day, and this shoot attracted the largest crowd we have ever had for an ATA event. 25 shooters took the line in sunny and warm conditions to shoot 100 singles targets. The club generously donated the trophies for this shoot, with trophies given to the winner and runner-up, as well as three class trophies given by Lewis Class method. Frank Bentley took home the top prize with a score of 95. There was a tie for runner-up between Jud Mann and Chris Sabo who both fired 93 s, with Jud taking the runner-up trophy after edging out Chris by one-target in the shoot-off. Chris ended up with the A class trophy. Bob Pfister took the B class trophy with a score of 88, and Tom Coleman won the C class trophy with an 80. Special thanks go out to Rich Kelly and Mike Moore who coordinated all the activities on the day of the event. Rich took care of registration and bookkeeping, while Mike handled the coordination of the squads and scorekeeping to make sure things ran smoothly out on the field. Other club members pitched in to score and keep the trap machines loaded, making sure everything ran smoothly for the shooters. We saw a record turnout on National Trapshooting Day, with 25 shooters taking part in the ATA event Left to Right: Bob Pfister, Bob Ash, Colin Ash, Tom Clark and Denny Mills are on the line for the National Trapshooting Day event. Left to Right: Frank Bentley (HOA), Bob Pfister (B class), Jud Mann (Runner-up), Chris Sabo (A class), Tom Coleman (C class). The club fired up the Sportsman's Grill on National Trapshooting Day.
