Halifax 4-H News Volume 1, Issue 7 April 1, 2018 Welcome to the Club! Scotland Neck officially has their very own club! We would like to extend a warm welcome to the new Clovers in The Neck 4-H Club! This club is designed to be a general interest club to support the many interested youth in Scotland Neck! Their club meetings will be the first Monday of every month at 6 PM. Their regular scheduled meetings will be hosted at the Scotland Neck Memorial Library. Halifax 4-H would like to say a big thank you to the adults that have stepped up and volunteered to be leaders! They had their first official meeting as a club on April 2nd and the theme was All About Me. 4-H ers had the opportunity to tell others about themselves and learn about their fellow club members. They are very excited to be starting this journey together. If you would like more information please contact the extension office! VOLUME 2, ISSUE 1 APRIL 1, 2018 Juniors Excel at Horse Program Competitions On February 10th a Junior team from Halifax County competed in the jeopardy style competition called Horse Bowl. Members of the team: Colton Irby, Kolby Irby, Tommy Mitchell, and Mackenzie Hubbard traveled to Currituck County to show the Northeast District how hard they had been practicing! Their efforts showed and they received 5th place! This same group also traveled to Raleigh for the State Hippology contest. A Hippology contest is a test your knowledge activity in all things horse. The team had to compete in a written exam, identification, and judging! This may seem to some like a daunting task but our juniors performed excellently and represented Halifax County well. Congratulations and we hope to have even more participation next year! Achievement Night Celebrations February 20th Halifax County 4-H ers gathered in fellowship and fun to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2017 4-H year! 4-H ers received countless awards for their leadership, sportsmanship, service and loyalty to the program! They also received recognition for their projects that they completed throughout the year and were awarded their 4-H year pins! Volunteers were also recognized for their hardwork and dedication to our youth in Halifax County! Once again congratulations everyone and we look forward to a productive and exciting 2018! 2
