LPG TANK INFORMATION An energy company that puts Safety first.

LPG TANKS Thanks Thank you for choosing Kleenheat for your LPG supply. We consider safety our number one priority, so please make time to read through this booklet for important information on your installation. What is LPG? Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a flammable fuel which in its natural state is colourless, odourless, tasteless and non-toxic. LPG describes a range of hydrocarbon gases, the most common being propane, and can be produced through extraction during natural gas production or by refining crude oil. LPG is stored in liquid form under pressure in cylinders or tanks. When exposed to the atmosphere or if vessel pressure is reduced (for example, by burning gas via an appliance), the liquid returns to its natural vapour state. As LPG has no smell, a distinctive rotten cabbage odorant is added to aid leak detection. LPG is heavier than air and will collect in low-lying areas (e.g. drains) if a leak occurs. Maintaining your supply Kleenheat schedules bulk refills automatically based on historical usage records. Keep in mind we also rely on our customers to ensure they have enough LPG to satisfy their requirements, as deliveries outside normal schedules can t be guaranteed. We recommend regular checks of your tank s contents gauge, especially during busy periods. You ll find the contents gauge under the tank lid. When we fill your tank, we can only fill it to a maximum of 85% to allow for LPG expansion as temperatures change. If your tank reaches 30% or lower, simply email us at gasorderswa@kleenheat.com.au and one of our logistics coordinators will get in touch. Site access Our delivery vehicles need clear access to your LPG installation to deliver gas safely. Ensuring smooth access will help us maintain reliable supply. Should your business hours change, please let us know so we can update our delivery schedule accordingly. Simply email gasorderswa@kleenheat.com.au with details. 1

0 500 EQUIPMENT INFORMATION As the owner of the storage tank(s) on your site, Kleenheat is responsible for its maintenance and testing. Tanks are inspected and maintained in accordance with AS3788 with installations inspected by drivers at each delivery. 1000 3 8 2 Open 6 7 Open Close 1 4 Close 5 Note: valves may be reversed To help familiarise yourself with the installation, the following information covers basic features of your LPG equipment: 1 Vapour withdrawal valve This valve supplies your LPG. If you ever need to isolate gas supply to your premises, this valve should be turned off in a clockwise direction. 2 Bleeder valve Connected to a fixed ullage tube within the tank and operated by the delivery driver when transferring LPG. 3 Pressure gauge Indicates LPG pressure inside your tank, which is usually around 600-700kPa. This level may be higher on warm days, or lower on cold days or during times of increased usage. 4 Contents gauge 5 Tank fill valve 6 Liquid withdrawal valve Indicates the amount of LPG inside your tank. Used by delivery drivers to transfer LPG into your tank. Used to withdraw liquid from vessel if required, and should be capped when not in use. 7 Pressure relief valve This safety valve protects the cylinder against overpressure. It then resets after the pressure is restored to a safe level. May not be positioned as depicted. 8 Protective lid The protective lid is for security reasons and should remain locked. Kleenheat provides a lock for customers, with drivers carrying a universal key for easy access during deliveries. 2

YOUR SAFETY Your LPG installation must remain compliant with relevant Australian Standards and State or Territory legislation. Our Kleenheat representatives assess your site s compliance at the time of install, but on-site environments can change and cause non-compliance over time. To help keep you and your employees safe on site, you must provide them with induction, training, and supervision regarding the safe storage and handling requirements for LPG. Refer to Dangerous Goods Safety Regulations Section 81. Compliance and responsibilities Kleenheat is responsible for all site LPG storage equipment. It s the responsibility of customers to maintain a compliant site, including gas pressure regulators, pipework and appliances. Factors influencing potential installation non-compliance include: Electrical equipment or other sources of ignition installed after the gas installation. Vegetation growing too close to the LPG installation. Combustible materials stored too close to the installation. Inadequate protection from potential vehicle impact. keeping safe and compliant is important for us all. Structures installed near the installation preventing good cross ventilation. Objects installed near the installation preventing good ventilation. Removal of fire protection. If you plan to alter the site near your LPG installation, please contact Kleenheat on 13 21 80 beforehand for advice on how to ensure your installation remains safe and compliant. 3

TANK & EQUIPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES The below diagram highlights tank and equipment responsibilities, for Kleenheat in blue and customers in yellow. Kleenheat is responsible for the LPG storage tank installation up to (but not including) the first stage regulator. Customers are responsible for the pipework, first stage regulator and appliances. The isolation valve requires regular inspection and testing. LPG Tank responsibilities Kleenheat LPG Storage tank maintenance and inspections. All storage tank valves and gauges. YOUR SAFETY Fire protection A single LPG tank installation (8Kl or less) requires a minimum of one (1) 4.5kg dry powder fire extinguisher. Multiple tank installations (where each tank is 8Kl or less) require a fire hose reel. It s your responsibility to ensure the installation has the correct fire protection equipment, which is appropriately inspected and maintained. In the event of an LPG-fuelled fire, it s important to follow these steps: 1. Initiate your Emergency Response Plan. 2. Evacuate people to a safe location, preferably upwind of the fire. 3. Contact emergency services by dialling 000. 4. Always follow the directions of emergency services. Suspected gas leaks If you detect the distinctive rotten cabbage smell of LPG, take following steps: 1. Eliminate potential ignition sources, such as cigarettes, pilot lights, sparks, air conditioners or mobile phones. 2. If the leak is indoors or in a confined space, open door and windows for ventilation. 3. The location of leaks can be detected by applying soapy water to suspect joints, fittings, or equipment which results in bubbles at the point of release. This should only be done if safe to do so. 4. If safe to do so, close your gas supply by turning the supply valve clockwise. 5. Phone 1800 093 336 for specialist advice.
