Page 10 Page 3 Ramadhan is a month in the Muslim calendar when the holy book known as the Quran was revealed to the messenger of Islam. This month is dedicated to fasting if you are fit and healthy. It is a huge celebration for everyone who participates and is connected to Islam. Fasting is from dawn till dusk. In this period a person cannot eat, drink or smoke. It is a test of patience, perseverance and self reflection. It is also a period where a person truly understands the struggle that certain people have to put food on the table on a daily basis. 30 days of fasting ends with a huge celebration known as Eid Al Fih which translates to the feast of breaking the fast. Page 4 Poetry & Puzzles... Page 9 On the weekend of 23rd and 24th May the art group (ARTANON) came into Plasden Court and helped us make a float for Manchester Day Parade. The flag was really enjoyable to make. The artists helped us make the badges to wear on the day. We made these by getting a safety pin and tying a knot in the ribbon. I enjoyed making the badges the most for the float. Many thanks to the artists that helped us make the art for the float Paul McMahon Footseps in the sand, angels in the snow. Page 8 Page 5 Service User Feedback What the service users say! Manchester Day Hello all, My name is John and I will be moving in to Plasden on the 8th of June. I started on my journey through mental health services in 2008. It s not always been an easy ride but now that I am about to move to Plasden I see it as that last leg and now I only feel positives. I start college in September doing NVQ level 2 in catering and I will take my education as far as it will go. Like I said, it has not always been easy but now I can genuinely say that LIFE IS GOOD! John Cosnett I like it here in Plasden Court, I am looking forward to moving on. I really appreciate the support staff are offering. I feel that my life has improved a lot in terms of broadening my social networks and gaining the necessary skills to live independently. I feel that staff have gotten to know me over the years and have sort out ways to provide support that is tailored to meet my needs Raymond Corcoran The Manchester Day Parade is on the 14th June 2015. This year Plasden Court, Praxis Care have a float in the parade. We have linked in with the local community art group ARTANON and have created a float. This year s theme is GAME ON! Service User NA will climbed mount Snowdon on the 13th June. If you would like to sponsor him then please contact staff. All proceeds go to Praxis Care Charity.
Page 6 A Grand day out... To Southport!! Page 7 Up and coming day trips... Carl, Olivia and myself met at 8.30am and got the bus to Town where we met Katrina. Then we went to Piccadilly train station where we got on the train to Southport! When we got there we went to a restaurant and had fish and chips and then went on the pier. We went to the arcades which was really fun. Then we went into the magic mirrors. They make your body look really strange. E.g. They made Katrina s legs look really long and her body really short! We went on the penny slot machines and I won a little bit of money. We then got on a mini train ride to the end of the pier. When we got off, we went to some more arcades. Someone was selling jewellery that she had made herself which was really interesting to look at. Then Carl played pool, then me and Katrina played I won! Then we got back on the mini train and we went to the lake. Me and Olivia went on a speed boat. It was awesome!! It was turning corners and bouncing up and down. I got salt water in my mouth and Olivia got soaked! We went on twice, the second time we all went on together. Then we went to the gift shops to buy some presents for our family and friends. We had another game of pool, this time I won against Olivia! We got an ice cream and then got back on the train. Time went so fast, I didn t want to leave! I had a really nice time and I would love to go again! Lorna Brooks I really had a good time in Southport and the weather made it even more beautiful. It s nice to be around the seaside as it is a place I don t go often. I enjoyed the speed boat, going on the pier, the train ride and having fish and chips. More trips like this should be arranged.
