IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A VARSITY AND / OR JUNIOR VARSITY OFFICER POSITION: Eaglette Officer Tryouts Requirements 1. Must have been a member of the Eaglettes and be in good standing for one full year. To be a Varsity Officer, you must have been on Varsity for at least one year. To be a Junior Varsity Officer, you must have been on Junior Varsity for at least one year. 2. Must abide by all school policies (including the district handbook and the Eaglette constitution). 3. Must have and maintain a total high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. 4. Must be passing all subjects with a C or better. Each girl will be required to turn in a copy of her grades before she will be eligible to perform or carry out her official duties. 5. Must be a good student and attend classes regularly. 6. Must pay specific attention to personal grooming and appearance. 7. Must have high standards PRIDE, DRIVE, SELF-CONFIDENCE. 8. Must be willing to give her time freely for the benefit of the dance team. 9. Must set an example for the members of the team by presenting a positive and supportive attitude toward the team and the coaches. 10. Must be able to attend all meetings and practices called and scheduled by the coach. 11. Must be able to attend all drill team practices, events, functions, and performances. 12. Must be willing to attend and promote fundraising activities and all other activities involving the Eaglettes. 13. Must attend dance team camp, officer camp, leadership workshops, and officer meetings. 14. Must be willing to cooperate with the coaches in all aspects of dance team, including planning schedules and preparing performances, functions, and activities. 15. Must be able to take initiative and assume leadership responsibilities. 16. Must be willing to spend as much time behind the scenes as up in front. 17. Must be willing to support the coaches at all times, regardless of personal feelings. Please remember that things always come up, and an officer must be flexible with her time. Tryout Procedures: Officer Tryouts will be held over a period of time from March through May. The tryouts are broken down as follows Application (Signature pages, grade check, essay, and questions) 50 points Interview 50 points Director Discretion vote 50 points Team Vote 50 points Merit Points 50 points Routine Choreography 50 points Teaching Evaluation 50 points = 350 points Tryout Application: (50 points total) Candidates should turn in the following items in the order listed. Completed Officer Tryout Application with signatures o Requirements, Procedures, Yearly Calendar, and Application Questions: Answered in complete sentences the attached questions. Officer Application is due Tuesday, March 21tst LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! Interview (50 points) The interview will consist of specific questions regarding team issues, officer/coach relations, dedication, goals, etc. Be prepared for an intense one-on-one interview with the coaches. Interviews will be set up at a later time. Director s discretion vote (50 points) Each candidate will receive a score from the coach based on the following criteria: Attitude & dedication Past performance Leadership ability and initiative Teacher Recommendations Team s discretion vote (50 points) Each candidate will receive a score from teammates based on the following criteria: Attitude & dedication Leadership ability and initiative Past performance Choreography (50 points) In addition to completing the application, the candidate will be required to choreograph two short routines, which will be performed for the coaches. One of the routine should be a band sideline that would work to do at Pep Assemblies. Think about 2 line parts and using to different music. You may do 4 or 8 8 counts. The 2 nd routine will be a routine of choice. Please choose the other routine of a style that would be appropriate for our team. The total routine should not exceed 1 minute in length. This is your opportunity to showcase your ability and most importantly, choreography skills. The purpose of this portion of the tryouts is to evaluate your choreography as well as your dance skills. Please do not do a routine filled with technique! We want to see dancing! The choreographed routines will be judged based on: Image, projection and presence Dance ability and technique Originality & creativity of routine Overall performance / choreography Teaching Evaluation (100 points)
Officer candidates will be asked to lead stretching, technique, and choreography in preparation for Spring Show. In addition, as a group, the officer candidates will prepare the camp home routine. The candidates will be responsible for helping coordinate choreography / making changes, music, formations, and teaching the routine. The routine will then be divided into sections. Each candidate will teach a section to the team during our weekly practices. The teaching evaluation will be judged based on: Explanation of steps / voice Knowledge of routine Cleaning / polishing skills Professionalism / presence / confidences Ability to relate to teammates Overall teaching / leadership impression Merit Points (50 points) Part of being an officer is helping behind the scenes. Over the course of the officer tryouts, look for ways that you can help and receive merit points for doing so. Each officer candidate must earn a minimum of (but is not limited to) 10 merits (5 points per merit). Record in merit log (that candidate creates) and turn in on Officer Tryout Date (will be in May). ***MERIT POINTS MUST BE APPROVED AND SIGNED BY COACH TO COUNT!!!
