Asheville (34-24/66-62) scored all five of their runs in the first inning on Thursday night. Omar Carrizales reached on an error by SS JC Rodriguez. Carrizales scored after back-to-back doubles by Forrest Wall and Shane Hoelscher. Three straight singles drove in three more for the Tourists. Savannah (38-18-1/77-49-1) drove in their first run on an RBI-double from Johnson in the top of the second. Johnson and Tyler Moore came home on a single from John Mora. Trailing 5-3, the Gnats offense went to work on Tourists reliever James Lomangino. Moore reached on a single in the sixth, one of his five on the day. Johnson launched his three-run blast after Vicente Lupo walked giving the Gnats their first lead of the game, 6-5. Johnson finished with four RBI in the game. The Gnats added single runs in the seventh and ninth innings and Lupo scored three in the eighth on a bases-clearing triple. Savannah scored 11 unanswered runs to defeat Asheville 11-5. Gnats starter Chris Flexen (3-0) picks up the win after his five innings of work. Paul Paez and Tim Peterson combined for four scoreless innings of relief. SAND GNATS STARTER: RHP Josh Prevost has won five straight starts for the Sand Gnats. Prevost will make his 11th start of the season tonight. The right-hander tossed 7.0 inning allowing just three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts. The product of Seton Hall University went 5.1 innings allowing just one earned run on four hits and walked three in his previous start @ Charleston. Before going on the DL, Prevost strung three consecutive outings together and concluded with a 7.0 complete game in game one of a doubleheader at Rome. The New Jersey native tossed 8.0 innings in his previous start against Lexington to earn his first win. Prevost has won five of his last six starts with a no-decision on 5/9, since then his line is: 5-0, CG, 2.11 ERA (9 ER/38.1 IP), and 18 Ks. MOORE IS BETTER: 1B Tyler Moore piled up a career-high five hits last night at Asheville. Moore also crossed the plate three times, another career-high. The Louisiana native finished just one single shy of the SAL record of six singles in a game, set back in 1995. PA-EZY: LHP Paul Paez has not allowed a run over his last 17 innings over 9 appearances. Paez s streak is the longest for the Gnats this season and dates all the way back to June 28 th. HURRICANE GUILLORME: SS Luis Guillorme leads the SAL with 136 hits in 2015. Guillorme is also leads the league with a.314 batting average. In the last 10 years, no Sand Gnat has finished in the top ten of the SAL in hitting. In 2015, there are three with RF Wuilmer Becerra who is tied for seventh with.296 and 3B Eudor Garcia is ranked tenth with a.295 batting average.
