CLUBHOUSE NEWS & EVENTS FROM THE MANAGER Mark Grisham General Manager It has been a rough start to the year with more rain than I can ever remember but Spring is here! This is my favorite time of the year when the grass turns green and golfers hit the course. The boats are all being cleaned getting ready for an eventful summer. The annual maintenance on the pool is finishing up and new cushions are being made. This is the time of the year everyone comes out and the club is alive. We are starting the season with 16 more members than we had this month last year and we are poised to have the best Spring yet. April 6th we will be hosting a potential member reception and will be inviting all of the people who have inquired about membership since last September (around 80). I would encourage you to let Tricia or myself aware of anyone you personally know that would be a good addition to our club and we will invite them as well. (1055) We are still planning events for the summer but so far you can add these to your calendar: Commodore s Ball on April 14 with steak and lobster dinner and live band, Caribbean Seafood night with a steel drum band on April 28 in conjunction with us hosting boaters from other Yacht clubs. We will also have live music at the swimming pool on weekends starting in June with full bar and menu service offered again this year. The calendar is filling up fast with a variety of fun activities so I hope to see you all soon out at the Club. SUPERINTENDENT S REPORT Glen Junkin, GCS Golf Course Superintendent Spring is almost here and if you re like me you can t wait. This winter has been a tough one due to the large amount of rain and cold we ve had this year. Just in February alone we had 14.75 inches of rain. This has really affected the amount of project work we were able to complete this winter on the golf course. We had planned to do a lot of tree work, pruning the limbs to get more sun through the canopy so the grass had better conditions to compete and grow. Hopefully we will still be able to complete some of the work! That is if we don t go straight to summer conditions like we did last year. When that happens, you spend time mowing that you would have been able to continue projects. April and May tend to be some of the most beautiful months of the year to play golf with all the trees and shrubs blooming! With that said we look forward to seeing you on the course. FROM THE BRIDGE Harold Kimbrough Commodore Hope everyone has had all the winter they want. I see Buttercups blooming and grass is greening. Spring is right around the corner and I know that all of our boater families are getting the fever to get those boats ready to go. Everyone needs to take notice of the improvements that have been made around the docks. The revised Marina Rules and Bylaws should be completed soon and everyone will be e-mailed a copy. I want to thank Rob Webb for his efforts, regarding all the projects we get into. The Commodore's Ball will be April 14. I hope all that can, will come out and enjoy this event. This is a major event for our club and will have great food and entertainment. Come out and get to know our boaters if you don't we will always have a great time. We also have our Boaters Weekend coming on the weekend of April 28 GYC boaters will be over to join us. This year we are going to have some different Game Tournaments to add to Boaters Weekend. We will have an off site tour that Saturday, April 28 of the Oaks Plantation Home with lunch and wine tasting. Mark and his crew have been working toward getting the improvements done. We are still working toward an expansion of more slips if all the pieces of the puzzle come together. Thanks to the entire crew at TP for always putting together our summer Quarter Deck functions and looking forward to a great spring and summer.
