KPTS HONORS VETERANS EARTH'S NATURAL WONDERS Wednesdays @ 7PM November 4, 11 & 18 Explore the most extraordinary places on the planet in this three-part series. Visit six continents to learn how these natural wonders evolved and hear rarely told stories about the challenges their inhabitants face. STRAY DOG Monday, November 9 @ 9PM Meet motorcycle-riding, stereotype-shattering Vietnam veteran Ronnie Stray Dog Hall as he tries to come to terms with his combat experience and help others like himself. DEBT OF HONOR: DISABLED VETERANS IN AMERICAN HISTORY Tuesday, November 10 @ 8PM Tuesday, November 10 @ 7PM Follow survivors of perhaps the fiercest battle of WWII as they return to Iwo Jima for a Reunion of Honor on the only battlefield where former enemies come together in shared remembrance. This documentary examines the way in which the American government and society as a whole have regarded disabled veterans throughout history, beginning in the aftermath of the Revolutionary War and continuing through today s conflicts in the Middle East. Fridays @ 8PM November 6 Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin to Do Portrait of legendary performer Chita Rivera, star of West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, and Chicago. November 13 Act One Few have captured the magic of the theatre better than Moss Hart, a poor kid from the Bronx who went on to become a lion of Broadway. November 20 First You Dream: The Music of Kander & Edd Directed for stage by Eric Schaeffer and produced by HMS Media, First You Dream features sparkling new arrangements of some of the greatest songs to ever grace a Broadway stage, performed by a stellar Broadway cast. As a child he attended the best schools and traveled the world with his famous father. But when David Parks landed in Vietnam in 1967 there were no luxury hotels or five-star restaurants to pamper him. This youngest son of famed photographer and film director, Gordon Parks, found himself on the battlefield of one of most horrific wars. In the midst of this horror show as Parks calls it, he was keeping a diary of what he saw and did and later published it in a book titled, GI Diary. Thursday, November 12 @ 8:10PM Thursday, November 12 @ 7:30PM Parks visits the KPTS studios for a one-on-one interview to share his story of courage, heroism and lament. From basic training in his father s home state of Kansas to sniper fire and a bomb explosion that nearly killed him, Parks gives the gritty details of his life as an African-American soldier on the front lines in Vietnam. He pulls no punches as he attempts to set the record straight about this dark period in American history, and its impact on his life as the son of the legendary Gordon Parks. See this one-hour Veterans Coming Home special. While many of the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces return home and make successful transitions back to civilian life, hundreds of thousands of vets returning from active duty are struggling due to the mental and physical toll of war. Dillion is the true story of a young soldier who served his country well but lost his battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
