Capoeira Karkara Cultural Arts Center, Inc. 2012 Summer Camp Orientation Information The directors and staff of Capoeira Karkara are thrilled to have your child join the Capoeira Karkara Family this summer. The students receive instruction in all aspects of the capoeira art form: martial arts techniques, music, acrobatics, dance, language, culture and history, as well as yoga, meditation, arts and crafts and Hoop Dance. They will explore their surroundings during our field trips and enjoy outdoor sports play and free play at our local parks and pools. The skills they will develop with help the campers to grow not only as capoeiristas, but as young members of our society. At the end of the summer, they will perform for their family and community at our Summer Showcase to present what they have been learning during the summer. (Date/time to be announced). Summer camp hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Drop off begins as early as 8:00 am, and campers are allowed to stay until 6:00 pm and even participate in the regular capoeira classes if they choose to do so at no extra cost. The Capoeira KarkaraKids Campers are expected to: Be ready to participate in all activities. Abide by our Rules and Regulations. Be a caring and cooperative member of the Capoeira Karkara family. Schedule: Students will participate in classes every half hour. Class topics include: Martial Arts Techniques Acrobatics Music Maculele (A partner dance that is an aspect of capoeira.) Portuguese Capoeira history and culture Yoga Arts and Crafts including daily Zentangling (Zentangle is a meditative way of creating beautiful images using repetitive patterns. It is fun and relaxing and increases focus and creativity.) Showcase Rehearsals Twice a week (usually on nesdays and Thursdays), the campers will participate in an hour-long Hoopdance workshop. (Kids Hoopdance provides a playful way for youth to increase coordination, stamina, focus and creative problem solving skills. We use the hoop as an invitation for challenges and games to boost the confidence of each student, building a safe space for all to take risks in creative movement and apply active conditioning through an expanding skill-set. Our certified instructor, Casandra Tanembaum, is also a capoeira student and will integrate her hoop class with capoeira to enhance the skills they are learning in their classes). Every Friday from 1:00 3:00 pm we will beat the heat at Denson Pool at Wilson Park in Boynton Beach. The cost for each visit is $1 per camper. On Fridays, make sure your child brings a swimsuit, towel and sunscreen in addition to his/her uniform, lunch, snacks and drinks.

On most days we will visit a local park for our campers to enjoy a picnic lunch and outside free play and/or organized sports play.
