T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT BELMONT ON 25 JUNE 2016 Meeting No: 267 Weather: Showers Track: Soft (5) reclassified to a Soft (6) at 11.10am Penetrometer: 6.7 Rail: True Stewards: BW Lewis, H Taylor, PB Criddle (6 & FL), ML Vickers (SR), Cadet RD Butler (8 & gear), T Rendell (Form/Betting Analysis), G Croll (BR) Veterinary Surgeons: Drs M Wilde, R Stone Medical Officer: Dr Y Leong Stewards conducted a number of stable inspections of Trainers engaged into today s Group 3 Strickland Stakes as part of the Compliance Assurance Raceday activities and no breaches of the rules were detected. Further a number of runners from the Strickland Stakes and WAROA Belmont Guineas were placed under supervision. RACE 1: AMELIA PARK LAMB PLATE - 1200M SLIK SAM Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr S Miller advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell. JUPITER RISING - Raced wide throughout. LENNY'S GOD Shifted inwards on jumping and bumped. Due to the uncompetitive performance Trainer Ms J Mitchell was advised that the gelding would not be permitted to race in the metropolitan area until such time as it displays an improvement in its performance. MAULDENS MILL Bumped on jumping and squeezed shortly after. STORM DANCER Raced greenly throughout. Approaching the 300m shifted inwards when racing greenly and steadied. OREGON BRONZE - Commenced awkwardly shifted outwards and bumped. BURNING MAGIC Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. RACE 2: PINK LADIES DAY - JULY 9 HANDICAP - 1000M DUETON Rider accidently dropped his whip approaching the 100m. GIGANTE Slow to begin losing one length. Lay inwards for a short distance on straightening. DISCIPLE - Raced wide throughout. Commenced to give ground on straightening. Trainer Mr G Ayres advised that the gelding would now be leaving his stable. Trainer was advised that due to the poor performance the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. Further a prime metropolitan ban would be in place until it shows an improvement in its form. RACE 3: RACEDAY HOSPITALITY - BOOK NOW HANDICAP - 1000M MYSTIC MAID Carried inwards and bumped by another runner passing the 900m.
Belmont : 25.06.16 267/2 Race 3 continued STRAVIGO - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Williams advised that the gelding would undergo an endoscopic examination on return to the stables and that he would advise Stewards accordingly. DELICATE MISS Carried inwards by another runner and bumped passing the 900m. Raced wide throughout. I DO DE CLAIRE - Slow into stride losing one length. PRIME WITNESS Trainer Mr J Taylor advised that due to the filly s wide barrier he would instruct that it be ridden back in the field and this information was disseminated. Eased from the heels of another runner passing the 900m. Rider J Brown advised that in his opinion the filly wasn t suited to the soft track conditions today. WAR JEUNE Held tight through the early stages. Commenced to race ungenerously through the middle stages. Shoeing change: STRAVIGO bar plate off General: Riders K Fitzgerald (MYSTIC MAID), R Tan (IT S DYNAMITE), P Knuckey (REGAL GLEAM), S McGruddy (WAR JEUNE) and B Patterson (DELICATE MISS) were interviewed in relation to an incident passing the 900m. It was established that WAR JEUNE when racing fiercely had shifted inwards away for MYSTIC MAID despite the efforts of its rider and IT S DYNAMITE racing to the inside of MYSTIC MAID had established a position one off the fence with these movements contributing to the above incident. Stewards after hearing all evidence were of the opinion that Apprentice K Fitzgerald should have made a greater effort to allow her mount to stride forward and hold her position between WAR JEUNE and IT S DYNAMITE and also that the racing manner of WAR JUENE was a significant factor. RACE 4: HAHN SUPER DRY HANDICAP - 1600M CHECKPOINT - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. NORTH RIDGE - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in both fore legs and Trainer Mr F Kersley was advised that it would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing or trialling again. RACE 5: STRICKLAND STAKES - 2000M IHTSAHYMN - Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 600m. DUBAI ESCAPADE Impeded for clear running from on straightening until being angled outwards approaching the 200m. ZARANTZ - Slow to begin. Carried outwards by another runner approaching the 1000m. GRIS CARO (GB) - Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and when passing the 1200m allowed his mount to stride forward to take up the lead passing the 1100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer s representative Mr G Krispin advised that the horse may have choked down and will effect a gear change in order to prevent a reoccurrence. WINK AND A NOD In relation to the performance rider advised that she had raced further forward in the field than anticipated after commencing well from an outside barrier and as a consequence the mare failed to finish the race off as anticipated. Trainer Mr J Warwick will be contacted in relation to its recovery and his future intentions. General: Jockey L Warwick (WINK AND A NOD) was shown a replay of incident near the 1100m where she shifted her mount to the outside of GRIS CARO (R Hill) causing ZARANTZ (P Knuckey) to be carried out and inconvenienced for several strides with that gelding then being

Miss Warwick was told to exercise more care and ensure she is fully clear of other runners prior to shifting ground in future. RACE 6: FAST TRACK TO MEMBERSHIP 2016/17 HANDICAP - 1400M STOCKS - Raced wide from the 600m. DUST ME OFF - Bumped on jumping. DON'TGETCAUGHT Raced wide for the majority. EUROSUN Lay inwards passing the 200m. Rider advised that after commencing fairly he was unable to take up a forward position as instructed as a result of the early pace of runners to his inside showing better early pace. HOLD YOUR TONGUE Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Commenced awkwardly, shifted inwards and bumped. PARIS OF TROY Raced keenly when leading. SMOOTH FLIRT Rider advised that the gelding lay outwards from the 700m and felt uncomfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms J Erkelens advised that she would monitor the gelding s recovery and report any findings to the Stewards. Shoeing change: SOCIALLY UNIQUE bar plate on off hind RACE 7: WAROA-BELMONT GUINEAS - 1600M THE COBBLA Raced keenly through the middle stages. Impeded for clear running from on straightening and angled inwards passing the 300m for clear running. KEY TO FAME Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Tightened and steadied passing the 250m. SHADY GRAY In relation to the gelding racing further forward in the field rider advised that it was his instructions to take up a forward position. Trainer Mr D Caruana was subsequently interviewed and was reprimanded under AR.135A and was advised that any future riding instructions that differ from previous starts that he is to advise Stewards for public dissemination. Trainer further advised that in his opinion the gelding raced further forward than he anticipated and would now be sent for a spell. PRETENTIOUS CHANT Rider advised that the gelding pulled hard throughout. BATTLE TORQUE Squeezed on jumping losing one length. BEAUCOUNT - Raced wide throughout. Lay inwards in the straight. TONKATUFF Impeded for a short distance on straightening and angled inwards for clear running. ROSMARTINI Trainer S Miller advised that due to the filly s wide barrier he would instruct that it be ridden back in the field and this information was disseminated. General: UNIVERSAL LAW Rider was shown a section of the patrol film at the 250m where he allowed his mount to shift outwards marginally resulting in KEY TO FAME (P Knuckey) having to steady his mount. Jockey Pike was cautioned and advised that in similar circumstances he is to ensure he is fully clear of other runners or further action may be taken. RACE 8: LES CAPORN 70TH BIRTHDAY HANDICAP - 1200M TUDOR BOLT - Commenced awkwardly and shifted inwards shortly after the start. DE ANDES - Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider advised that the gelding may not have been suited to the soft track condition of today s race. BJORN TO LOVE - Raced wide throughout and lay inwards in the straight.
Belmont : 25.06.16 267/4 Race 8 continued SMARTY WILSON Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. TIRRENO Impeded for a short distance prior to straightening. Had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight. Impeded for clear running from on straightening until the 200m. GENERAL Routine specimens were taken from all winners, and Race 5. (2 nd placed DUBAI ESCAPADE) and Race 7. (2 nd placed SHOWY CHLOE). The following horses were selected for pre-race blood samples to be taken: Race 5.
