.. 7* UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA Nickname: White Phantoms Conference: Southern, Big Four 'Howard Deasey is Carolina s tallest cage performer and without any doubt one of its best stars. Standing 6-6, Deasey has been both a center and a guard for the team, but most likely will play a guard 'post tonight. Deasey has an excellent twohanded outside shot and tips in a lot of rebounds under the basket. He is playing «his third year on the Tar Heel varsity and ds a native of New York City. Center Jack Wallace is the big scorer for the White Phantoms. He is 6-4 and weighs ZOO-pounds. In the Dixie Classic he was one of the leading point producers and although a sophomore, Wallace is a big reason why Carolina is getting better with each game. Wallace hails from Elkins, W. Va. and can play either forward or center. He is a good one-handed shot and works hard for rebounds. Wallace sets up Carolina s fast-break. Guard Bud Maddie is one of Coach Torn Scott s sophomores who is improving with each game. He stands 6-4 and weighs 210 pounds and is one of the best rebound artists ever to attend Carolina. Maddie has been hampered by a shoulder injury he suffered early in the season, butis due to be back in top shape for the game with State. He is a native of the Bronx, N. Y. Maddie ls a consistent scorer and particularly good defensive player. --.~ W11. :Tvv -. "'"""""" ".. q-q, W. YITF: 1-»5':....5.""" Forward Dick Patterson came into his own as a star for the White Phantoms last year as a junior. Although only 6-2 Dick is a fine rebound man and drives for the basket well. Patterson has been invaluable as a replacement for the injured Hugo Kappler and probably will rate a starting job against State if Kappler cannot play. Patterson hails from Pilot Mountain, N. C. Forward Hugo Kappler is one of the steadiest players on the Carolina team. There IS some doubt about whether he ll be able to play tonight or not since he has been out of action with a wrist injury suffered early in the season. Kappler is one of the best competitors in Carolina basketball history and also one of its most proficient scorers. Hugo hails from Brooklyn, N. Y. and stands six-feet, three inches. He is a good man on rebounds and can shoot with both hands.
