(18) EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND In 2005 the Golf Committee established a fund in order to aid our Assistant Golf Professionals through the expensive stages of certification by the PGA of America. This assistance helps with the expenses of attending the PGA of America testing and certification center located in Florida. The objective is to retain quality young men and women, who will increase their value to the Club and Members. The PGA program is very difficult, time consuming and expensive for a person to undertake. It s a wellknown fact that most Assistant Golf Professionals are doing it for the love of the GAME rather than the financial rewards. The cost of the program is $6,200 plus airfare to Florida. The average time to complete the three levels is three years. The program consists of three levels: LEVEL ONE A self study that covers the Rules of Golf, Tournament Operations, Introduction to Teaching, Golfer Development, Golf Club Design & Repair and Career Enhancement. LEVEL TWO A seminar and testing that covers Analysis of the Swing, Business Planning & Operations, Communications, Turf Grass Management and Customer Relations. LEVEL THREE A seminar and testing that covers Swing Concepts & Teaching, Supervising & Delegating, Merchandising and Inventory Management. While working a 40 plus hour week, it is very difficult to dedicate the time, let alone pay the cost, of attending the program. The Golf Committee wants to help our assistants complete this program by providing financial assistance. This assistance will benefit our club and members by having a better trained professional staff. This added incentive will keep our Assistant Golf Professionals committed to the Club and the Members and encourage them to stay. The Clubs of Kingwood Golf Course Superintendents are also eligible to apply for funding to complete the Golf Course Superintendents Association Program. The funds will be kept in a separate scholarship account and be disbursed by a committee of members and Director of Golf. A Bank Account has been established at the Houston Community Bank in Humble. It takes three signatures to distribute the funds. We are asking for the support of the members of The Clubs of Kingwood. Donations may be made to Educational Scholarship Fund. Thank you for your support. (19)
