The senior class is now 64-1 alltime in the MAAC. - The Red Foxes are vying for their 10th MAAC Championship this season, 9th consecutive, and 11th regular season title. - Marist and Manhattan are both 2-0 in the MAAC so far this season, only two of four undefeated teams through current play. - The Jaspers gave Marist its only MAAC loss in the last four years (2/4/12, 48-44) - Marist has won the last three meetings, including a 72-50 victory in the quarterfinals of the 2013 MAAC Tournament. - Manhattan went 1-8 in non-conference play, ending an eight-game losing streak with a 72-56 win over Canisius in its MAAC season opener on Dec. 29, its first win since Nov. 10. - Four Red Foxes average double digit scoring (Blais 15.7, Ockenden 15.1, O Connor, 13.2, Dulin 11 ), only one Jasper averages in double digits (Roeder, 10.9) - Head coach Brian Giorgis will continue his dedication to helping fight hunger in the Hudson River Valley with a donation of a dime for each fan in attendance at home games throughout the season to hunger awareness. - Kentucky head coach Matthew Mitchell and his wife will be matching Giorgis donation from the entire season. Last Time Out - Marist resumed MAAC play on Tuesday against Canisius, defeating them 57-49. The Red Foxes improved to 2-0 in conference play. - Madeline Blais had a game-high 14 points, five rebounds. - Leanne Ockenden and Emma O Connor had 12 points apiece. Giorgis by the Numbers 4 Giorgis is ranked fourth among active women s basketball Division I coaches in winning percentage with a mark of.776 (277-80) 10 The Red Foxes have won ten consecutive MAAC Regular Season Titles. 17 Marist reached a ranking of 17 in the ESPN/ USA Today Coaches Poll in the 2011-12 season. Top-5 Winning Percentages Among Active Division I Coaches (entering 2013-14) BRIAN GIORGIS Head Coach 12th Season Career Record: 285-84 7-time MAAC Coach of the Year Since arriving at Marst for the start of the 2002-03 season, Giorgis has taken the Red Foxes from a team struggling to each.500 to national prominence. With his first team in 2002-03, a squad which had lost the fourth and fifth leading scorers in program history to graduation the prior year, Giorgis improved the Red Foxes win total from 11 to 13. Marist also earned its first win in a MAAC Tournament game in school history with a first round triumph over Loyola. Here is a list of accomplishments the Red Foxes have achieved since Giorgis first season: - Eclipsed 100 points for the first time under Giorgis on vs. Northeastern (103-66) - Defeated two ranked opponents in his career: #21 Nebraska (12/19/10) and #20/19 Oklahoma (12/21/13) - Ten consecutive 20-win seasons, seven straight 25-win seasons - Two 30+ win seasons (2007-08, 2010-11), including a program record 32 wins in 2007-08 - Three perfect 18-0 records in the MAAC (2007-08, 2010-11, 2012-13) - MAAC record 35-game winning streak against conference opponents (including postseason) between the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. Also had a 34-game MAAC winning streak between the 2009-2010 and 2011-12 seasons. Both streaks are the only ones in MAAC history to reach the 30-game plateau. Currently on a 31-game MAAC win streak from the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons (including postseason). - Ten winning streaks of 10 or more games, including two separate streaks in 2011-12. Three times those streaks have extended to 20 or more consecutive wins, including 27 in a row in 2010-11, which was the longest in the nation at the time. - 28-2 record in the MAAC Tournament, including 23 consecutive wins. The Red Foxes were 0-5 before Giorgis arrival. - 5-9 record in the NCAA Tournament, including becoming the first MAAC program to reach the Sweet 16 (2007). - Eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances is the longest active streak in the country of any school that does not belong to the SEC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, or ACC. - Giorgis has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year seven times, five times outright (2003-04, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13) and a share of the award on two other occassions (2004-05, 2005-06). - Marist has ranked in the top 50 in the nation in scoring defense in each of the last nine seasons, including leading all of NCAA Division I in 2010-11 with a 49.7 PPG/Allowed average. - Marist has ranked in the top 20 in the nation in fewest turnovers per game each of the last eight seasons. - Inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Prior to his arrival at Marist, Giorgis enjoyed a tremendous amount of success at Our Lady or Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie. As the head girls basketball coach at Lourdes, Giorgis posted an astounding record of 451-44 in his 19 seasons, good for a winning percentage of.911. He won nine state championships with the Warriors. In his last two years, his teams posted a combined mark of 56-2 and earned the top ranking in the Madison Square Garden Tri-State Area Poll each year. Giorgis has earned two WBCA Region One Coach of the Year honors and two Coach of the Year awards from the New York State Coaches Association. He led Lourdes to the league title all 19 of his seasons there and won 15 Section I crowns, with the last 11 coming consecutively. Giorgis achievements at Lourdes were not limited to the basketball court. He is the only coach in state history to take teams in four different sports to the state Final Four, as he also guided the baseball, softball, and volleyball teams there. #24 BRITTNI LAI 5-6 Fr. Guard Irvington, N.Y. Irvington Prior to Marist: Lai entered her senior season at Irvington High School, having already played four years of varsity basketball, and had scored 1,456 career points. She averaged 18.6 points per game in her first two years, which were played at Edgemont, before averaging 16.1 points per game the past two seasons at Irvington. Lai also led her teams in steals, averaging three per game over four years, and assists in each season while winning two state championships and one federation championship. #35 KATHARINE FOGARTY 6-2 Fr. Forward Peterborough, N.H. The Governor s Academy Prior to Marist: Fogarty comes to Marist with a very impressive resume. Through her three years at The Governor s Academy, Fogarty as scored 1,220 points, a 20 PPG average, and collected 770 rebounds, for an average of 12 per game. She has also averaged three assists and two blocks. In all three years, Fogarty has led the Independent School League (ISL) in scoring and rebounding. She is a three-time member of the All-ISL First Teams and the All-New England First Team (New England Prep School Athletic Conference) as well as having been named team MVP in each of her first three seasons. Off of the court, Fogarty has been named to her school s honor roll in each quarter.
