Dear Potential PHS Cheerleader, We would like to welcome you to the Poudre High School Cheer Tryouts for 2014. Tryouts can be fun and exhausting at the same time. All of the information in this packet must be completed and returned to the Poudre High School front office no later than April 14, 2014. It is not mandatory to attend the Open Gyms to tryout but is highly recommended. Open gyms are April 2nd and April 9th 3:30-5:30 in the wrestling gym. You must attend all days of the Tryout Clinic to be considered for the team. All students need to have a physical on file at the PHS front office before they can participate at the Tryout Clinics and Tryouts! NO EXCEPTIONS! Physicals are good for one calendar year. If you already have one on file for another sport you must fill out a transfer paper at Mrs. Niesent s desk in the front office. SKILLS ASSESSMENT TEST TUMBLING: Forward roll, Handstand, Handstand Forward Roll, Bridges, Cartwheel, Back Walkover, Round-Off, Spotted Back Handspring, Back Handspring, Round-Off Back Handspring, Standing Tucks, Running Tumbling Pass. JUMPS: Tuck, Star/Spread Eagle, Herkie, Right Front Hurdler, Left Front Herdler, Left Hurdler, Right Herdler, Toe Touch, Pike, Double Nine, Around The World. STUNTING: Step-up Drill, Thigh Stand, Shoulder Sit, Shoulder Stand, Prep/ Elevator/ Half, Extension, Libs, Heel Stretch, Scale, Torch, Scorpion, Bow and Arrow, ETC. CHEER MOTIONS, DANCE, AND CROWD LEADING INVOLVEMENT: Girls will learn a cheer and a dance routine, and boys will learn a chant to be performed on the final day.

POUDRE HIGH SCHOOL CHEER TEAM GENERAL INFORMATION 2014-2015 CHEERLEADER S RULES 1. All cheerleaders are required to have a current physical and emergency form signed on file at PHS. 2. Follow the athletic code and school rules. 3. No gum, no jewelry, no cells phones allowed during practice cheer events, and games!!!! 4. Participate in all mandatory fundraisers, assemblies, and community events deemed required by the coach. Each team member is allowed only three unexcused absence per season to complete the program. Excused absences are as follows: Absent from school and Doctors appointments only. All other absences are unexcused. 5. Attend summer camp/camps. 6. Treat others with respect at all times. 7. Always show good sportsmanship. 8. Maintain passing grades in all your classes, you must attend designated study sessions until you have passing grades. You can not participate in cheer until you have passing grades. You must still attend all cheer games and practices as a team support member. Any competition team member who becomes ineligible at anytime will become an alternate for the team. Any captain or co-captain who becomes ineligible at any time will be relieved of their title. There is only one reason for a bad grade. Either you are not trying hard enough or the work is too hard and you need help. 9. Be on time and ready- for school, for class, for practice, and for all events you are required to attend. Leave your bad attitudes at the door. 10. Show your positive attitude. Smile!

J/V, VARSITY, AND COMPETITION TEAMS All Team Practice: Mondays and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 Competition practice Saturday unless otherwise informed. J/V Team Cheer at: JV Football, JV Basketball, and JV/Varsity Wrestling. Possibly Varsity Girls Basketball, Varsity Soccer (alternate) with Volleyball. Varsity Teams Cheer at: Varsity Football, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Soccer, and Wrestling. Competition Team: Will compete at regional competitions Sept- Dec 2014, CHSAA State Spirit Competition in Denver Dec 2014. Any chosen competition through the 2014 season. Teams will be a combination of Freshman- Seniors chosen by the competition coach. An invitation to Nationals will be announced during the season. Each Competition team member will be responsible for all individual fees for Nationals. All cheerleaders are invited to cheer from the stands as fans for any other sports not listed above. FUNDRAISERS Fundraisers help to pay for expenses such as: new uniforms, traveling fees, celebrations, materials, supplies, and competition fees. The fundraisers schedule will be passed out at the team meeting after tryouts. POUDRE HIGH SCHOOL CHEER TEAM ESTIMATED FEES JV GIRLS FEE $695 VARSITY/COMPETITION GIRLS FEE $995 JV/VARSITY BOYS FEE (See Coach Klamm) MASCOT FEES (SEE COACH KLAMM) Summer Cheer and Camp fees (JV $375 and Varsity/Comp $675) are due by May 5th in order to receive your cheer items and attend summer camp for the cheer season. The remaining balance of the cheer order is due August camp to receive remaining cheer items and uniform to participate in cheer and sport pictures. No exceptions! No payment plan. Price includes team fees, camp fees, cheer shoes, cheer clothing, and accessories. A detailed fee list will be available at the team meeting.

POUDRE HIGH SCHOOL CHEER TEAM CONSTITUTION MISSION Our mission is to promote and uphold school spirit, unity, and pride. We must represent our school to the highest degree. We are an example of good behavior and sportsmanship at all times whether we are in uniform or not. We will promote friendship with one another and with the schools with whom we compete. We promote the development of lifelong values and skills. We work as a team; respecting our teammates, coaches, and competitors. We are Poudre! COMMITMENT We will spend approximately 8 hours a week together in the 2014 and 2015season. Each member is expected to be dedicated to the team for the entire 2014 and 2015 season. This includes practice times, game times, travel time, camp time, and celebrations. Each member must to the best of their ability individually enhance their own personal cheer performance and growth. ELIGIBILTY All students at Poudre High School are eligible to try out for the Poudre High Cheer Team as long as they complete the required physical exam. Each member must fill out and complete a tryout packet. In order to remain in good standing, each member of the Cheer Team must take 25 credit hours and he/she must be passing all classes. (CHSAA Rule) Eligibility will be checked on a weekly basis. Probation/Ineligibility; If a cheerleader is not passing a class, he/she will be benched and will not be allowed participate in any events until the next eligibility check. That student must still be present at all practices and games. The coaches reserve the right to prevent any member of the team from participating in an event due to behavior, lack of preparedness, and absences. If you arte ineligible at the end of the school year or semester you must sit out the required time allowed by CHSAA rules. ATTENDANCE Team members are required to attend all practices and games unless they are pre-excused by a coach or there is an emergency situation. The coaches reserve the right to prevent any member of the team from participating in an event due to behavior, lack of preparedness, and absences. FUNDING POLICY Every cheerleader is required to pay the initial fees prior to the season. Cheer items will not be given out until fees are paid in full. The entire cheer team will engage in fundraising activities to finance expenses not covered by the initial fees. (Travel expenses, Uniforms, Supplies, competition fees, etc.)

OFFICERS The cheerleading team will be lead by the team s head coach and assistant coach(es), but will also include student officers who help to organize, run, and make decision for the team. Final decisions will be made by the Head Coach. BEHAVIOR Each team member will be expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner with respect to self and others. All policies and rules listed in the Poudre High School General Policies and the Poudre High School Code of Conduct must be adhered to. CONSEQUENCES In the event that disciplinary action needs to be taken: A. First action: A conference with the student and coach. B. Second action: A conference with the student, coach, parent and or administrator C. Third action: The student will be asked to leave the team. TEAM RULES NO jewelry is to be worn at practice, games, or events. This includes any type of ring or piercing, necklace, bracelets, watches, etc. Each team member must be in complete uniform for all games and events. This includes skirt/pants, shell, unifit, socks, shoes, hair ribbons, poms, megaphones, warm ups, and any other required accessories. All cheerleaders are required to arrive to all games 30 minutes prior to the start time. Cheerleaders must make prior arrangements for missed games and practice as well as tardiness. All team members should follow ALL additional team rules that are voted on by the team at the beginning of the season. LENGTH OF SEASON AND PRACTICE TIMES JV and Varsity will cheer at various athletic events throughout the fall and winter season. They will also cheer at performances at school and community events throughout the year. The competition team will compete at regional and possible national competitions through March 2015. Pre-season preparation during the summer will be required along with the practices during the school year. Each cheerleader will be expected to make a commitment to the entire fall and winter season with respect to the entire team. By signing the Application and Agreement, both the cheerleader and his/her parent or guardians are agreeing to this time commitment. LETTER REQUIREMENTS In order to earn a letter for the 2014-2015 seasons a student must: be on the Varsity and Competition Cheer Team for the entire 2014-2015 season. Participate in 90% if scheduled practices. Attend 90% of cheer events. Adhere to the PHS Rules (see Mrs. Niesent for a copy). Participation may be limited by ineligibility and by coaches.
