PATRICK COUNTY FARM BUREAU AG EXPO Saturday, April 29, 2017 Patrick County Fairgrounds Rotary Field General Show Regulations Schedule of Events Saturday, April 29 th 8:00a.m. - 10:00 a.m. -- All livestock entries (beef, sheep, goats, and chickens) check-in and weigh in 10:00a.m. -- All livestock must be checked in 11:00 a.m. -- Beef Showmanship, followed by beef classes by age 1:00 p.m. -- Goat Showmanship, followed by market goat & breeding meat goat. 2:30 p.m. -- Sheep Showmanship, followed by market lamb & junior ewe 4:00 p.m. -- Poultry Show Contestants 1. Each contestant must be a 4-H or FFA member enrolled in a 4-H club or FFA chapter by January 1, 2017. Exhibitors must have turned nine years of age by January 1, 2017. Participation terminates on December 31 of the year of their nineteenth birthday. 2. Pee Wee Exhibitors ages 8 and younger may enter the showmanship classes for sheep, goats and chickens. An exhibitor must accompany children below age 5. **Pee Wee classes are sponsored by the Stuart Rotary Club and are not affiliated with the 4-H or FFA programs. 3. This Show is open to all residents of Virginia and North Carolina. 4. Exhibitors are free to leave once their portion of the show is complete. 5. A veterinarian will be at the fairgrounds from 8:00a.m. to 10:00a.m. The veterinarian will inspect all livestock. Any or all animals not meeting the entry requirements and / or exhibiting any signs of disease or illness, may be refused entry, required to be isolated and/or required to be returned to the farm of origin. 6. There will be no premiums awarded at the Spring Patrick County Livestock Exposition, only ribbons in each category and banners or rosettes for grand and reserve champions. There are also no registration fees for this show. Lunch will be provided by the Patrick County Farm Bureau and the Patrick County Cattlemen s Association for exhibitors. All others will be able to purchase their lunch from the Cattlemen s Association. 7. All exhibitors must participate in one sheep, goat, beef, or chicken showmanship class. You may participate in more than one showmanship class.
Entries 1. All entries (beef, sheep, goats, and chickens) must be postmarked by March 24, 2017 to Travis Bunn, PO BOX 408, Stuart, VA 24171. No adding entries, substituting, or switching of classes will be permitted. 2. If the animal gets away from the exhibitor two times it will be dismissed from the class. Animals shall be under the control of exhibitors at all times without the aid of tranquilizers or other drugs. Dangerous or drugged animals will be disqualified, and removed from show area. If it is determined that any animal poses a threat, the Show Committee reserves the right to disqualify the animal and remove it from the show areas. The safety of all exhibitors and animals is the primary concern. 3. All animals exhibited must be in good physical health. Any animal found with a disease that could be passed on to other animals will have to be isolated or removed immediately from the grounds A veterinarian will make the final decision. 4. The Livestock Committee has the right to add, delete, or combine classes. Showmanship 1. Animals must be shown clean and dry. Exhibitors will be judged solely on showmanship. 2. Showmanship classes are Junior Novice, Senior Novice, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Age on show date is based on the 4-H Age policy. Commercial Heifer Cattle Show 1. All cattle are shown as commercial heifers and are not shown by breed. 2. There will be five classes: Senior Yearling Heifers: calved 9/1/15 12/31/15 Early Junior Yearling Heifers: calved 1/1/16 2/28/16 Late Junior Yearling Heifers: calved 3/1/16 4/30/16 Summer Yearling Heifers: calved 5/1/16 8/31/16 Senior Heifer Calves: calved 9/1/16-12/31/16 Cow/Calf Classes 1. Joint classes will be held for commercial cow/calf pairs. All calves must be under 8 months of age. 2. Cow/calf is not eligible for grand champion female of the show. SHEEP SHOW RULES Sheep Showmanship 1. All sheep exhibitors must enter the sheep, goat, beef, or chicken showmanship classes. 2. Sheep showmanship classes are (all ages as of 9/30/17): Pee Wee 8 and under
Junior Novice: Senior Novice: Junior: Intermediate Senior: 9-13 years of age and have never shown before in a 4-H or FFA show 14-19 years of age and have never shown before in a 4-H or FFA show 9-12 years of age 13-15 years of age 16-19 years of age Junior Market Lamb Show 1. Only wether or ewe lambs may be shown in this division. 2. Scales will be provided and lambs will be weighed on the show date to determine final entries in the market lamb classes. Minor weight adjustments may be made by the sheep show committee to balance classes. Lambs must weigh a minimum of 50 pounds. 3. All market lambs must be younger than eight (8) months of age. Commercial Junior Ewe Show 1. The commercial ewe classes are: Class 1 Junior Ewe Lamb Born Jan. 1, 2017 or after Class 2 Intermediate Ewe Lamb Born Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2016 Class 3 Senior Ewe Lamb Born April 1 to Aug. 31, 2016 Class 4 Yearling Ewe Between 1 and 2 years of age Class 5 Aged Ewe Two years or older Junior Market Goat Show 1.
