To obtin wrrnty service, the purchser should deliver or return the unit (postge prepid nd insured) to ny MotorGuide uthorized service center. DO NOT RETURN TO PLACE OF PURCHASE unless they re n uthorized service center. Motors purchsed in other countries should be returned to plce of purchse. Products returned by mil should be crefully pckged nd include note describing the nture of the problem nd/or service requested, customer ddress, nd phone number. A copy of the receipt, Bill of Sle, registrtion verifiction, or other proof of purchse is required with the return of the product for wrrnty considertion. Wrrnty clims will not be ccepted without presenttion of purchse receipt for trolling motor, other verifiction of registrtion, or Bill of Sle for bot pckge. 2. MotorGuide electric trolling motors re wrrnted to the originl purchser to be free from defects in mteril nd/or workmnship for two (2) yers. Wrrnty is NOT trnsferble to ny subsequent purchser. 3. MotorGuide, t its discretion, will repir or replce items covered under the terms of this wrrnty. Neither MotorGuide nor MotorGuide service delers re responsible for dmges to MotorGuide products due to repirs performed by nyone other thn the MotorGuide Fctory Service Center. Neither MotorGuide nor Mercury Mrine is responsible for filure or dmge cused by improper instlltion, set up, preprtion, or previous service or repir errors. 4. This Limited Wrrnty begins on the dte the product is first sold to purchser or the dte on which the product is first put into service, whichever occurs first. MotorGuide ccessories re covered by this Limited Wrrnty for coverge period of one (1) yer from the dte of retil sle. The repir or replcement of prts, or the performnce of service under this wrrnty, does not extend the life of this wrrnty beyond its originl expirtion dte. Promotionl wrrnties re not included in this sttement nd coverge my vry by promotion. Product either sold or put into service more thn six yers from dte of mnufcture is excluded from wrrnty coverge. 5. MotorGuide Composite Shft Limited Lifetime Wrrnty. MotorGuide composite shfts re wrrnted to the originl retil purchser to be free of defects in mteril or workmnship for the lifetime of the originl purchser. MotorGuide will provide new composite shft t no cost for ny composite shft which contins defect in mteril or workmnship. The instlltion costs re the sole responsibility of the purchser. 1

This wrrnty will not pply to hul out, lunch, towing nd storge, trnsporttion chrges nd/or trvel time, telephone or rentl chrges of ny type, inconvenience, or loss of time or income, or other consequentil dmges. 8. We reserve the right to improve the design of ny trolling motor without ssuming ny obligtion to modify ny trolling motor previously mnufctured. 9. Serilized "Service Repir" motors hve one (1) yer wrrnty. Nonserilized "Service Repir" electric trolling motors re NOT wrrnted. "Service Repir" motor denotes trolling motor sold by MotorGuide tht my be "used," but hs been inspected nd my hve hd minor repirs. Originl retil purchser of "Service Repir" motor is the first purchser of the motor fter it is denoted s "Service Repir." "Service Repir" motors hve blue sticker on the bttery cble nd box denoting "Mnufcturer Certified Service Repir Motor." 10. TERMINATION OF COVERAGE: Wrrnty coverge my be terminted for repossessed product, or product purchsed t uction, from slvge yrd, from liquidtor, from n insurnce compny, from unuthorized mrine delers or botbuilders, or other third prty entities. 11. Stop the trolling motor immeditely whenever nyone in the wter is ner your bot. Shut off the trolling motor before llowing people to swim or be in the wter ner your bot. Pssenger Sfety Messge Whenever the bot is in motion, observe the loction of ll pssengers. A sudden reduction in bot speed, such s shrp chnge of bot direction, could throw them off the bot. GENERAL INFORMATION Do not overlod your bot. Most bots re rted nd certified for mximum lod (weight) cpcities, refer to your bot cpcity plte. If in doubt, contct your deler or the bot's mnufcturer. Perform sfety checks nd required mintennce. Follow regulr schedule nd ensure ll repirs re mde properly. Never be under the influence of lcohol or drugs while boting (it is the lw). Alcohol or drug use impirs your judgment nd gretly reduces your bility to rect quickly. Pssenger bording. Stop the trolling motor whenever pssengers re bording or unloding. Be lert. The opertor of the bot is responsible by lw to mintin proper lookout by sight nd hering. The opertor must hve n unobstructed view prticulrly to the front. No pssengers, lod, or fishing sets should block the opertors view when operting the bot. Underwter hzrds. Reduce speed nd proceed with cution whenever nvigting in shllow wter. Tripping hzrds. To void trip hzrd, route ll cbles nd wiring netly nd out of the wy. Report ccidents. Bot opertors re required by lw to file Boting Accident Report with their stte boting lw enforcement gency when their bot is involved in certin boting ccidents. Do not use the min engine bttery to power the trolling motor. Bttery Recommendtions Use 12 volt, deep cycle mrine btteries. The number of btteries required vries ccording to the model of your trolling motor. Refer to Bttery Connection. As generl rule, deep cycle btteries with higher mp hour rting or reserve cpcity rting will provide longer run times nd better performnce. Instll mnul reset circuit breker in line with the trolling motor positive leds within 180 cm (72 in.) of the btteries. These cn be purchsed from your locl MotorGuide retiler or from www.motorguide.com. Do not extend the included 10 guge bttery cbles more thn 1.8 m (6 ft) for totl of 3 m (10 ft). If longer bttery cbles re required, MotorGuide offers ccessory 8 mm² (8 guge) bttery cbles. Use nylock nuts to secure the bttery cbles to their terminls. Using wing nuts to secure the bttery cbles cn cuse loose connections. Any depth sounders or fish finders must be powered from the engine strting bttery. For 12 volt trolling motor pplictions, connect the negtive ( ) terminl on the trolling motor bttery to the negtive ( ) terminl on the engine strting bttery with common ground cble to estblish common ground. For 24 volt nd 36 volt trolling motors, common ground ( ) connection cnnot be estblished with the 12 volt electricl system in the bot due to the different circuit voltges. As generl rule to reduce interference with other electronics on your bot, route ll bttery wiring wy from other bot wiring (opposite side of the bot if possible), keep the bttery cble length s short s possible, nd lwys use bttery cbles of the pproprite size (guge). 8

If the motor nd bttery wiring re instlled correctly nd electrolysis issues continue, seprte the trolling motor from ny other bot electronics. Using the min engine bttery s power source for the trolling motor is not recommended. Refer to Bttery Connection for correct instlltion. Wire nd Cble Routing Route the trolling motor wires on the opposite side of the bot from other bot wiring. The trolling motor should be connected to its own dedicted bttery. Sensitive electronics, such s depth finders, should be connected to seprte bttery. Mrine engines should hve their own dedicted strting bttery. All btteries should hve common ground. Remove ny debris. IMPORTANT: Use lrger drill bit to countersink the holes on fiberglss bots to prevent crcking. 4. Insert the rubber isoltors between the bse of the mount nd the bot mounting surfce. Tighten them securely with P3 screwdriver nd 7/16 in. wrench. IMPORTANT: If necessry, shim the rubber wshers with 25 mm (1 in.) outside dimeter stinless steel wshers to crete level mounting surfce. Determine suitble loction for the foot pedl with the trolling motor deployed nd in the stowed position. Ensure tht there re no obstructions beneth the bot deck tht would interfere with the mounting screws, such s bulkheds or bot wiring. 2. Once suitble loction is chosen, mrk the mounting holes, using the foot pedl s templte. 3. Use 3 mm (7/64 in.) drill bit to drill holes through the bot deck. 16

Loosen the brcket door knob until the motor column slides freely. 3. Rise or lower the motor column until the propeller bldes re submerged 15 30 cm (6 12 in.) below the wter surfce, then tighten the collr. 4. Momentry switch: The momentry switch is locted on the top right corner of the foot pedl. The momentry switch works in conjunction with the on/off/pedl switch when it is in the pedl position. When the momentry switch is pressed, the motor will run t the selected speed s long s the switch is pressed. On/off/pedl switch: This three position switch provides three options for operting the motor: on, pedl, or off.. On: Allows the motor to run continuously t the speed selected by the speed control knob, without the use of the momentry switch. b. Pedl: Allows the motor to ctivte with the momentry switch t the speed selected by the speed control knob. c. Off: Turns the trolling motor off. 24

STORAGE PREPARATION MAINTENANCE The mjor considertion in prepring the trolling motor for storge is to protect it from corrosion nd dmge cused by freezing of trpped wter. Disconnect the power cbles from the bttery. 2. While holding the propeller blde with one gloved hnd, use 9/16 in. wrench or rtchet nd 9/16 in. socket to remove the propeller nut. Remove the propeller nut nd wsher (or node, for sltwter models). IMPORTANT: Remove the propeller nut with wrench or rtchet nd socket. Using nother tool my dmge the propeller nut or shft. If the propeller cnnot be removed esily, use rubber mllet to lightly tp the bck side of the opposite blde. If the propeller cnnot be removed, hve the propeller removed by n uthorized deler. 27

IMPORTANT: Do not overtighten the propeller nut, or dmge to the propeller or propeller pin my occur. 53442 Adjusting the Steering Cble Tension! Do not perform mintennce or service on your trolling motor if you re not fmilir with the correct service nd sfety procedures. The cble tension on the X5 trolling motor is preset t the fctory. With time nd use, the cbles my stretch slightly, requiring occsionl djustment. The following procedure explins how to djust the steering cble tension. Use cre while djusting the steering cble tension. Excessive cble tension will cuse premture wer to the cbles nd pulleys, while excessively loose tension my cuse the cbles to jump off of the pulleys, resulting in loss of steering control. 29

Once the lock is ligned s shown, press the locking pin in the direction indicted, but do not remove it completely. NOTE: If required, tp the locking pin out with screwdriver hndle or smll hmmer to disengge the locking pin. 58758 4. Continue to hold the ltch relese hndle once the locking pin is prtilly removed. 5. Orient the new locking pin so the lignment tb is fcing the sme direction s the lignment tb of the old locking pin. 6. Press the new locking pin into the opposite side of the mount. Continue to press the new locking pin until it clicks into position. 31
