Corpus Christi at Arkansas Thursday, April 6, 2017 Dickey-Stephens Park North Little Rock, AR 7:10 p.m. ON THE RECORD: 0-0 Home 0-0 Road 0-0-0 Series 0-0 Sweeps - Streak 0-0 Last 5 0-0 Last 10 LID LIFTER: Tonight, the Hooks open their 13th season of play with the first of a three-game series against the Arkansas Travelers. It s the initial leg of a six-game road trip here in the Natural State. The scene shifts to Springdale Sunday afternoon. Of the 25 players listed on Corpus Christi s roster, all but four have Double-A experience. A grand total of 16 finished last season with the Hooks. Corpus Christi went 85-55 in 2016, this after posting a club-record 89 wins in 2015. Since 1960, there are only five instances of a Texas League team posting back-to-back 80-win seasons, and the Hooks have accomplished this feat twice (2015-16 & 2012-13). Corpus Christi paced the circuit in victories during those respective campaigns. The Hooks reeled off a 2-0 triumph over Tulsa in last year s opener at Whataburger Field. Corpus Christi has won eight of 10 seasonopening games since 2006. The Hooks enter the 2017 campaign with an 8-4 record on Opening Day. Under his leadership, the Hooks have gone 174-106 for a.621 winning percentage. In 2016, Linares picked up his fourth consecutive first-half crown. Corpus Christi opened with a 47-23 mark and finished the year a season-best 30 games over.500. Last year also featured a club-record 11-game win streak. Linares entered the Texas League ranks following a successful three-year stint at Lancaster. The 2013 California League Manager of the Year captured the circuit s pennant in 2012 and 2014. During this run, the JetHawks compiled a 234-186 (.557) regular-season record and went 16-7 in postseason play. A 20-year member of the Astros organization, Linares has punched a playoff ticket in each of the past five seasons. During this span, his clubs boast a.583 winning percentage (408-292). GRAPEFRUIT HARVEST: Third baseman J.D. Davis begins 2017 on the heels of a productive spring training. Davis, 23, spent the entire spring in big league camp as a non-roster invitee. The former third-round pick from Cal State Fullerton batted.388 with a.926 OPS in 26 Grapefruit League contests. Davis is one of 17 Hooks who saw time in Major League Spring Training. Outfielder Alejandro Garcia, who played at the top three tiers in the Houston system last year, batted.333 in 21 Grapefruit League games this spring. Infielder Mott Hyde capitalized on his opportunity, going 3-for-5 with a double in 10 assignments. NEW-LOOK TRAVS: Arkansas will play its first game tonight as a member of the Seattle farm system. The Travelers ended their 16-year player development relationship with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at the conclusion of last season. Arkansas was affiliated with St. Louis from 1966-2000. All seven of the Mariners minor league affiliates featured winning records and reached the postseason. Double-A Jackson (Tenn.), led by Travs manager Daren Brown, went 84-55 en route to a Southern League title. Brown was named the league s manager of the year.
