Springer s Starz All-Star/Exhibition Cheerleading 2013-2014 Season Dear Springer s Starz Cheerleader and Parent, Thank you so much for choosing Springer s Starz! We are super excited you have decided to celebrate this program with us! We have had 7 amazing seasons and continue to grow every season in various aspects from cheerleading skills and team unity, to our faith in the Lord above to see us through the challenges we face and overcome as a small gym. We pride ourselves in being a gym that encourages well-rounded athletes and continually finds ways to support our athletes in extracurricular activities. As we prepare for our eighth season, the majority of our athletes and families will be preparing for junior high and high school activities and/or are looking for ways to financially join or continue All Star Cheer. To accommodate all families, we are revamping our program to support our busy lives and economic struggles. This will be a season of skill deconstruction and progression coupled with performance and competition. We have cut down routine practice time during the week and made necessary adjustments to reduce program fees this season. This gives all children the chance to continue building and improving their cheerleading skills at a competitive and collegiate level while still enjoying this fun sport and continuing on with the competitions, memories and friendships we all grow to love and appreciate. Starz has been named three time 2010 All-Level International champions, 2013 United Cheer National Champions, 2012 Texas Cheerleader East Texas State Champions, 2012 United Cheer National Champions, 2012 United Cheer Texas Open Champions, 2011 Cheersport Open Grand Champions, NCA Champions, Cheerpower Holiday and Open Champions and our Starz have placed in the top 5 in both Cheerpower and ACA National Championships during the past 6 seasons. We plan to continue adding to these titles this upcoming season. We look forward to meeting each of you during our sign-ups and evaluations. We have prepared the following information to help each family understand the commitment level of All-Star cheerleading with Starz. Please take the time to thoroughly read over the packet and discuss it with your daughter/son. We are deeply committed to providing an outstanding Christian program for our students with the safest training and the highest level of technical instruction available for our community and surrounding areas without becoming a burden on our family time and budget. We believe it is our commitment to God, our students, and families coupled with our dedication to excellence that paves the way toward building an excellent experience for both our students and their parents. It is extremely important at Springer s Starz that we commit ourselves, as coaches, athletes and parents, to develop top quality athletes and improve self confidence. Our program has been designed to teach students athleticism, sportsmanship, teamwork and positive behavior. One of the things that set us apart from our competitors is our commitment to an openly Christian-based gym atmosphere. We strive to be different, from the classy uniforms that are appropriate for young ladies and gentlemen, to the way we present ourselves at competitions. Thank you for choosing to join our family! Coaches will be available throughout the next few weeks to answer questions and take registrations. You may call 832-277- 7797 and leave a message for Chanelle or any of the coaches and they will return your call promptly. We are looking forward to working with each and every one of you. Cheers and God Bless... Chanelle, Chandra, Christy, Dena, Kailey, Melanie & Sabrina Information What is Competitive Cheerleading? Competitive cheerleading is the non-school sport of cheerleading designed to enhance cheerleading skills in a competitive environment and prepare children for college cheer and possible scholarships. Generally the practice season runs year round with the bulk of competitions in the fall through early spring. Squads are grouped according to age and ability level. The goal of the team is to compile a 2-2 ½ minute routine encompassing all aspects of cheerleading including tumbling, jumping, stunting, cheer, motions and dance. The routine is judged on technique, ability, routine construction, squad unity, transitions etc 1 P a g e

Why Competitive Cheerleading? The benefits of participating in competitive cheerleading are numerous! The athletes will enhance their cheerleading skills as well as learn the importance of commitment, teamwork, social skills, how to win/lose gracefully, hard work, dedication, and determination. Our program focuses on teaching cheerleading skills driven towards college cheerleading and possible scholarship opportunities. Teams: Springer s Starz is proud to support the following teams. *Springer s Exhibition Program: Starz Little Twinklerz Show Team (Show Team ages 3-8) *Team Shooting Starz (Level I) *Team Galaxy (Level II) *Team Supernova (Level III) *Team Universe (Level IV) New Season Starz Parent Meeting (All-Star & Exhibition): A parent meeting will be held on Monday, April 1 st at 6:30pm at Creekside for all Starz that have signed up for the 2013-2014 season!!! This meeting is to discuss the upcoming season, fundraisers, and set dates, etc.! Welcome to Starz!!! It is mandatory that at least one parent/guardian for each child be at the meeting. Our website address is www.flipatspringers.com. Squad Selection: We are expecting a good turnout at sign-ups this season with our new program ideas that will be easy on time and the pocket book and hope to field 3-4 teams this year. Your child s squad may be determined by the age he/she will be by August 31, 2013 and their skill level. We may have more or less teams, depending on the turnout at sign-ups. All teams will be emailed to you once squads have been selected and determined. Athletes may move to another squad throughout the year, if the coaches feel that it is best for the athlete and program. Athletes are also encouraged to crossover to other teams as well. This is the only way small All-Star Cheer programs are able to offer more teams that ultimately accommodate every athlete s skill and ability level. All-Star Age Grid: (Ages as of 8/31/2013) Tiny 5 yrs & younger Mini 8 yrs & younger Youth 11 yrs & younger Junior 14 yrs & younger Senior 18 yrs & younger 2 P a g e

Team Practices for Starz All-Star Competitive Cheerleading: **Pre- Choreography Camp and Evaluation Practices for the 2013-2014 Season will begin May 6th with evaluation tumbling, jump & drill practices and will be on Mondays ONLY in May. (Times TBA) Team Practices for Starz Exhibition Cheerleading:**Pre- Choreography Camp and Evaluation Practices for the 2013-2014 Season will begin May 6th with evaluation tumbling, jump & drill practices and will be on Tuesdays ONLY in May. (Times TBA) Summer Practice (June-August): ** Summer practices are mandatory and critical in your child s placement in the overall routine for next season. Practice makes perfect, so please help your child become their BEST by attending these practices and achieving their skills this summer!! Practices will only be once per week for 1 1/2 hours and we will begin perfecting our routines and placing athlete positions for competition season! Practice days and times: TBA Fall Practice (September-April): Our goal is to have the following TEAM routine practice schedule for the Fall 2013: ** Please note that this is only a tentative practice schedule!! This schedule is subject to change or be altered throughout the year. Weekday practices may be required from time to time. **Starz Exhibition Show Team (Ages 3-8) Day & Time TBA, Tumbling/Gymnastics class of choice **Level 1 - Shooting Starz- Routine Practice: Sundays 4:00-5:30, Tumbling class: Sundays 3:00-4:00 or weekly class of choice, Cheer skill class & additional tumbling class (optional but highly recommended) **Level 2 - Galaxy- Routine Practice: Sundays 5:30-7:00, Tumbling class: Sundays 4:30-5:30 or weekly class of choice, Cheer skill class & additional tumbling class (optional but highly recommended) **Levels 3 0r 4 Supernova & Universe Routine Practice: Sundays 7:00-8:30, Tumbling class: Sundays 6:00-7:00 or weekly class of choice, Cheer skill class & additional tumbling class (optional but highly recommended) **These teams consist of many members of the Jr. High and High School Level participating in school related activities. They also require several crossovers for them to exist. Therefore, we have made routine and tumbling practices on Sunday afternoons to accommodate all the extra-curricular activities and school work/tests during the week. Tumbling: It is your responsibility to schedule your child's required tumbling class and cheerleading skill class with a cheer coach. A coach will gladly help you find the best class for your child. Attendance: One aspect that is very important for families new to the sport of competitive cheerleading is that our routines are coordinated around every team member. Therefore, one athlete s absence has a negative impact on the entire team. There is no second string in cheerleading -- all team members compete and are needed for successful, complete practices. The success of this program and placing at competition is determined by our practices. With that said, all squad practices are mandatory. When you join our team, it is presumed you will be with us the entire season. If you should decide to not continue with us throughout the season, you are still responsible for tuition for the entire season. (May-April) We are a team and we depend on every member of the team. To "quit" mid-season is unfair to the other members. Therefore, you are expected to start and finish the season to its entirety with your team. The practice schedule is set up so that all squads will get ample practice time and floor usage without taking up too much family time. We will only be practicing our cheer routine one time per week this season so it is vital that every team member attends that practice. In addition to our routine practice, tuition will include a tumbling of your choice. New this season: You are encouraged to sign your child up for a cheer skill class focusing on conditioning, jumps, motions, flexibility and stunting technique. Starz members will receive a discounted rate for this new class to focus and perfect their cheerleading foundation and skills. 3 P a g e

The following are not excused absences for Team Routine Practices: Not feeling well, but attended school that day or does NOT have a doctor s note (please come to practice to watch and learn) Birthday Parties of any kind Injury (please come to practice to watch and learn) Transportation Issues (Coaches will gladly pick up if needed!) Homework or tests (please plan accordingly- with Sunday practices, this should never become an issue) Optional Activities (including school activities and other sports) We are one of the few gyms willing to work to the best of our ability with your busy schedules which is why we are choosing to free up our weekdays as much as possible. We believe involved children are more likely to stay out of trouble and stay healthy. However, we require the same respect to our organization as you give all other extra-curricular activities. If the All-Star director does not feel your child is meeting his/her responsibility to our team, it will be grounds for dismissal from the team. If your child is dismissed from their team due to repeated absences, you are still responsible to pay all remainder financial obligations for the season s entirety and this will be due immediately upon dismissal. Tuition & Expenses: We have worked very hard to keep all the costs down for you. We are trying to be the most affordable, yet best quality program in the area. Many fundraisers are held to compensate ALL costs. We also offer a sponsorship program for area businesses that help compensate costs as well as your own personal payment plan which will be discussed in further detail at the parent meeting. Payments will have specific due dates and if these dates are not met, late fees will begin accruing. New this season: Families are required to set up an online account and auto pay for your child through our website at www.flipatspringers.com in our parent portal. All payments on account must be made online this season unless special arrangements are approved by owner. **EVERY member will be required to set up auto pay online**. If your payment has not been received by the due date, your account balance due will be automatically paid using auto pay. Starz All-Star Teams Levels 1-4 Monthly Tuition $90.00 (This includes Routine practice & Tumbling Class) Starz Exhibition Show Team Starburst: Monthly Tuition $90.00 (This includes Routine practice & Tumbling Class) 2013-2014 Fees (not included in tuition) Additional Tumbling Classes- $30.00 per month (optional but recommended) Cheerleading Skill Class- $30 per month (optional but recommended) Competition Fees: The competition fees average total is dependent upon venues final prices. An approximate total from past seasons range from $600-$750. However, this season we will be cutting back the number of competitions which will cut back on costs. We are estimating $350-$550 for the entire season. This fee will be divided into payments for you and the total will be paid off in February of 2014. As soon as competition venues release competition dates and fees are posted, parents will receive a final total cost of fees for the season and they will be broken down into low monthly installments posted on account. Other additional costs NOT included in account will be spectator fees for competitions (determined by venues), team pictures (optional), additional Starz t-shirts (optional), hotel accommodations for out of town competitions (if any), etc. There will be no more than one overnight competition (if any) that will require at least one night s stay in a hotel. Competition Schedule Starz Teams (Exhibition & All Star)- We will perform in 3-5 competitions during the 2013-2014 season. We try to find as many local competitions as possible as well. However, sometimes traveling may not be able to be avoided due to venue locations. The tentative competition schedule for 2013-2014 will be distributed as soon as it is available. 4 P a g e

Summer Choreography Camp Summer camp is a very important time for team bonding, learning, and fun. This is not an optional camp. Our personal Choreography coach will be coming to Needville to work with our teams privately. Our All-Star teams will be learning their competition routine for the 2013-2014 season during camp as well as having a stunt, motion & jump clinic during this week. Competitive All-Star Teams: Cheerleading Camp for the competitive squads, Levels 1-4, will be in late May early June. This camp will be held at Creekside. Partial camp payment ($150) will be due at registration. Camp balance will be due the week of camp. Camp will average $250-$350. Camp cost includes 3-4 days of camp hosted by our professional choreographer, music fees, choreography fees & rental fees. As soon as a date and fees are finalized with us and our choreographer, your account will be charged the remainder balance (due the week of camp) and fundraisers will begin if you desire to participate to reimburse yourself. Exhibition Show Team: Team Starburst (ages 3-8): Our Starz Starburst Show Team will also have a choreography camp. Their camp will include a stunt, motion & jump clinic and they will also begin learning their 2013-2014 competition routine. The cost includes choreography fees, music fees, rental fees, and clinic fees and will average between $100- $150 per child. Uniform All-Star Starz: uniform package includes a Starz uniform which is custom made for Starz and includes a top, skirt, uniform briefs. Also included in the package are shoes, a competition bow, makeup, and a practice shirt. Uniform package prices vary and your account will be billed per item according to due date. After 1 returned check, only online auto-pay payments will be accepted for your account. **We will not be accepting cash payments. Parent Involvement The Starz parents are very important to our program. The most important thing you can do is to pray with and encourage your kids throughout the season. Competitive cheerleading can be very difficult at times and support from the home is necessary for a successful season. We will also need to fill the following positions on the Starz Spirit Team and Booster Club for the 2013-2014 season: *Team Moms: We will need 1 mom from each team to be available to help lead the Starz Spirit Team. These moms may be called upon to help call other Starz parents, organize activities like picture day, sleepovers, team bonding events etc *Fundraising Committee: 2 Fundraisers for the gym are mandatory. However, the personal fundraising will not be mandatory unless there is a balance due on account. We will have some options available for those families that would like to participate and are reimbursed for some of the out-of-pocket costs of cheerleading. With organized preparation, fundraisers can pay 100% for the camp and uniform costs. We have seen it done in the past! *End of the Year Banquet Committee: We will need one person to organize the banquet and awards ceremony and a team of families to help build and decorate. Please contact Starz Booster Club president, Melanie Flores, for more information. 5 P a g e
