Elk Grove High School Cheerleading Tryout Packet 2017-2018 Thank you for your interest in the Elk Grove High School Cheerleading program! The EG Cheerleading sideline program instills spirit and interaction with our fans at football and basketball games. The Cheerleading program has always been an important part of the fall and winter seasons by leading the "Nation" student led spirit group to cheer on the Grens. The Elk Grove competitive squad is an twelve-year state-qualifying program with numerous state, conference, sectional and invite championships. The competition squad is highly respected around the state as a well-organized program that instills sportsmanship while being a highly competitive IHSA sport. EGHS Cheerleading Tryout Packet Dear prospective cheerleader: You will find that this packet contains a great deal of information that needs to be looked over by both you and your parent(s)/guardian(s). The purpose of this packet is to set a clear and concise idea of what will be expected of you as an EGHS cheerleader. Required attire: white solid t-shirt, hair all up (bangs pinned back), white or green bow, plain black or green shorts, cheer or gym shoes. NO jewelry or gum. DO NOT wear any EGHS cheerleading apparel; all clothing should be plain. ** Candidate MUST return the signed permission form & paperwork May 9, 2017 EGHS field house Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Candidates will learn about the EGHS cheerleading program and continue and perfect tryout material. Candidates will prepare tryout groups and sign up for tryout times. Required attire: white solid t-shirt, hair all up (bangs pinned back), white or green bow, plain black or green shorts, cheer or gym shoes. Wear designated number given during 1 st day of clinic. NO jewelry or gum. DO NOT wear any EGHS cheerleading apparel; all clothing should be plain. May 11, 2017 EGHS Wrestling balcony Time: 4:00-8:00 p.m. Candidates will try out in groups of 4-5 at designated try out time. Please arrive 10-15 min before scheduled tryout time to stretch and prepare. We will continue on a tight schedule, if you are not on time, you will try out at the end of the night. Required attire: white solid t-shirt, hair up bangs pinned back, white or green bow, plain black or green shorts, cheer or gym shoes. Wear designated number given during 1 st day of clinic. Expectations & Regulations of EGHS Cheerleading ACADEMICS The EGHS cheerleading program expects academics to be each participant s first priority. EGHS cheerleaders are expected to follow the EGHS rules for eligibility set forth by the IHSA. Grades will be monitored weekly by coaching staff. ATTENDANCE Attendance at all practices, games, competition, summer camps, fundraisers, and community events are mandatory. Practice and game schedules are presented and announced in advance, meaning: doctor appointments, dentist appointments, etc. need to be scheduled around cheerleading events. Schedule changes are sometimes out of the coach s control and cheerleaders will be notified as soon as the change occurs. CAMPS The Elk Grove Cheerleaders will participate in 2 mandatory summer camps. These camps are very important and will play an important role in deciding who will be on the competitive teams. All camps will be held at Forest View High School. 1. Elk Grove High School summer athletic (SAP) camps **Sign up and pay through EGHS website** a. SAP camp: July 10 th July 13 th and July 24 th -27 th M-Th 3:00-5:00 p.m.-- $132 2. Private Skills Camp **Sign up and pay through Coach Damato- Can apply fundraising!!** a. July 17 th -July 20 th 1:00-5:00 p.m. $130 PRACTICES & GAMES Practice is 2-3 times per week after school. Practices are mandatory for all cheerleaders. At times, practices may be on weekends during competition season. During sideline football & basketball seasons all cheerleaders are required to cheer on Friday and Saturday nights weekly. Only death or serious illness in the family constitutes as an excused absence from a practice or game. ATTITUDE Disrespect by a cheerleader and/or parent towards the coaching staff or other cheerleaders will result in the cheerleader being removed from the program. Each participant will follow Elk Grove High School Co-curricular Code 24/7, 365. EXPECTATIONS Cheerleaders must have a physical on record with the athletic office by August 9 th, 2017. Cheerleaders must turn their white cards into their coaches & sign off the Co-Curricular Code by the first day of fall practice in August. All cheerleaders must register for Elk Grove Summer Athletic Camps by May 2017. (see CAMPS above) All Varsity and JV cheerleaders must participate in sideline cheerleading for football and basketball season. The only exception is males or females who are in a fall sport. EXPENSES All bills must be paid on time and in full. All parents and cheerleaders will participate in ALL fundraisers to help keep costs down. If you have an outstanding balance from the season before, it must be paid in full in order to tryout. Members of the competition team(s) will have additional expenses. **If a cheerleader quits at any time, they will be responsible for any pre-ordered items, outstanding balances. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN AT ANY TIME. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION If you are on the team the year before, it does not guarantee you a spot the following year. A veteran can be cut, or a person who is on Varsity can be placed on JV the following year. If you are a veteran and you missed an extended period of time in the previous season, it could affect your chances of making the team the following year. A cheerleader can be moved up or down teams within the program at the coaching staff s discretion. Your place in the program can be switched at any time. There may be a possibility of a second try out at the beginning of basketball/competition season. If you were cut during the May try out, you will not be permitted to try out again until the following May. The coaching staff can ask cheerleaders to retryout for the winter season if needed. Cheerleaders cannot try out for Orchesis and/or Poms after they have made cheerleading. If you quit, you cannot try out for these groups or another sport in season. You cannot be involved in any All-Star Cheerleading programs during football or winter/competition season.
