RACE 1 Book Spring Hospitality @ Theatc.Com.Au Handicap 1400m My Burning Heart began awkwardly. My Burning Heart laid in in the straight. Eight Over laid out under pressure over the final 100m. When questioned regarding racing further forward, H Bowman advised that his instructions were to have the gelding ridden with cover, if possible. He added that Eight Over, which was resuming from a spell, after beginning on terms with the field, raced fresh and in the early stages, when the gelding was somewhat keen, he allowed it to stride forward and race outside the early leader, Tinker Dan, as opposed to restraining the horse excessively in order to try and find cover. Daydream Explorer when questioned regarding her riding, App R Hunt advised her instructions had been to be positive on the horse and she anticipated settling in a forward position. She added that after Daydream Explorer was slow to begin, she rode her mount along shortly after the start in order to comply with her instructions, however in her view, Daydream Explorer, which was inclined to race keenly, as she felt that she would have had to make too much use of her mount in the early and middle stages to cross Eight Over, she felt it was in the horse's best interest to remain racing to that horse s outside and ultimately was left racing wide and without cover during the race. App Hunt was advised by the Stewards that in their view, she should have made a greater effort in the early stages to cross Eight Over when the opportunity arose which would have meant she would have avoided covering excessive ground. RACE 2 Pluck@Vinery Handicap 1100m Goldfinch was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 1.22pm after it reared in the tie up stalls and struck its head and sustained abrasions to its near fore leg and was found to be lame in that leg. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Goldfinch be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 1.22pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket. 1 st Addictive Nature 16 cents win, 11 cents place 2 nd Gold Standard 13 cents place 3 rd Schubert 18 cents place Trainer Mr S Englebrecht was advised a veterinary clearance was required prior to racing. Al Mah Haha turned its head to the nearside as the start was effected and began very awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced. Aunt Liberty raced wide and without cover. RACE 3 Pro Rata ATC Membership On Sale Handicap 1400m Primavera was slow to begin. Rhymes when questioned, B Avdulla advised that after his mount was slow to begin, he took it back from its wide barrier in order to find cover. He added that in his view, Rhymes may not have appreciated the firmer going today and after the filly laid in rounding the home turn and in the straight, made some ground over the concluding stages. B Avdulla advised that in his view, Rhymes may be
looking for races over a longer journey. In the straight, B Avdulla lost the use of his offside rein placing him at a disadvantage. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Dahooil was crowded on jumping between Liffy and Titaness, which shifted out. Paris For Me raced wide and without cover throughout. Long Time Ago shifted out under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed Long Time Ago to have lost its offside front plate. Our Anniversaire on straightening, was hampered and carried wider by Paris For Me, which in turn was taken wider by Dahooil (J Collett), which shifted out when not clear in order to improve. J Collett was advised to exercise more care. Gracious Grey when questioned, App A Adkins advised he had been asked to have the horse ridden a little positively in the hope of settling in behind the leader. He added that after Gracious Grey began on terms with the field, he rode his mount along in accordance with his instructions, however when caught wide, he allowed his mount to stride forward and race outside the leader, Long Time Ago, and ultimately settled further forward than he had anticipated. Trainer Mr R Quinton confirmed the nature of the instructions were to have the horse ridden a little more positively today but expressed surprise at how far forward Gracious Grey settled. Mr Quinton was reminded of his obligations to notify the Stewards of any change in riding tactics in future. RACE 4 Schweppes Handicap 1600m Fantasize change of tactics, option to be more forward; settled outside the leader. Approaching the winning post, Fantasize raced in restricted room and was unable to be ridden out and was steadied when crowded for room between Seventhchic, which shifted out marginally, and Little Miss Brown (J Ford), which shifted in when not clear. J Ford was advised to exercise more care. Blendwell was slow to begin. Passing the 1000m, Blendwell improved onto the heels of Dream Lane and was steadied. Pepperberry raced wide and without cover throughout. Fournette K McEvoy advised that from his inside barrier, Fournette never travelled comfortably racing inside horses. He added that Fournette may not have appreciated the firmer ground of today's race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Deluxe shifted in at the start and made contact with Colour Drops. Deluxe raced wide and without cover. Nick On The Run was slow to begin. Golden Shoes began very awkwardly and lost ground (2L). Colour Drops raced wide without cover. Princess Command was held up in the early part of the straight and was obliged to steady and shift out around the heels of Golden Shoes passing the 300m in order to improve. Music Magic when questioned regarding racing further forward, K McEvoy advised the mare was agitated in the barriers and after it began particularly well, it raced quite keenly and settled further
forward than they had anticipated as the pre-race plan was they hoped to have the horse ridden with cover. I Can Rock a post race veterinary examination revealed I Can Rock to be lame behind. Trainer Mr G Portelli was advised a veterinary clearance was required prior to racing. RACE 6 Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 2200m Polemic change of tactics to be ridden quieter; settled back. B Avdulla advised that Polemic settled back in the field. He added, however, the gelding raced keenly throughout and in his view, does not run out a strong 2200m of today's race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Napoleon when caught wide in the early stages, was restrained by its rider in order to find cover, however when this was not available, was left racing wide without cover for the majority of the race. Grand Teton was slow to begin (2L). Go Benny was slow to begin. Go Benny was held up rounding the home turn. El Novio was slow to begin. El Novio, when endeavouring to improve passing the 500m, was steadied and disappointed for a run between My Friend Charlie and Go Benny, which shifted in after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of the tiring Red Viking. El Novio was then held up for some distance thereafter. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that it had not affected H Bowman's finishing position (placed fifth), he was nonetheless reminded to ride out his mounts fully to the end of the race. King s Officer laid out in the straight, proved difficult to ride and near the 150m, became awkward on the heels of Celestial Choice before being directed to that horse's outside to continue to improve. Celestial Choice and King s Officer then raced tight over the latter stages. Red Viking K O'Hara advised that in her view, Red Viking raced flat and had now come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination revealed Red Viking to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr P Cave will be advised a veterinary clearance, including the results of a satisfactory ECG must be submitted prior to Red Viking barrier trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards. My Friend Charlie K Latham advised that My Friend Charlie, which was up in grade today, never travelled comfortably throughout and on pulling up, was making an abnormal respiratory noise. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Dubois was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of a satisfactory endoscopic examination, must be submitted prior to My Friend Charlie racing again. RACE 7 Tab.com.au Handicap 1600m Roeinda change to tactics to be ridden more forward; settled off pace. Dylan s Romance began awkwardly. Alfred The Great was slow to begin. Invicta was slow to begin. Fortensky was shifted back in and across runners after the start. Nissile raced wide without cover throughout. Nat King Cu rounding the first turn, commenced to overrace and was steadied away from the heels of Dylan s Romance. Shortly after straightening, Nat King Cu, which was inclined to lay in, was steadied when crowded for room between Alfred The Great (A Hyeronimus) and Gone With The Wind
(B Shinn), both of which shifted ground slightly. A Hyeronimus and B Shinn were advised to exercise more care. Nat King Cu was then awkwardly placed on the heels of Alfred The Great until approaching the 100m. Dylan s Romance the Stewards inquired into the circumstances of Dylan s Romance being checked near the 500m. Evidence was taken from App D Panya and B Shinn (Gone With The Wind). On the evidence, it was established that leaving the 600m, Gone With The Wind shifted out slightly, which offered the opportunity of a tight run to the inside of that horse for Dylan s Romance to improve. A short distance later, Gone With The Wind shifted back in resulting in Dylan s Romance being checked and losing ground. Nat King Cu, which was trailing, was hampered. As the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied on the available films that B Shinn had shifted to a position one off the fence, no direct action was taken other than he was cautioned and advised that when he shifts ground in future, notwithstanding the quantum, he must ensure he is sufficiently clear of other runners before he does so. Vanell when questioned, H Bowman advised that the gelding never travelled comfortably in a race that was run in a strong tempo and rounding the home turn, lost concentration, hung out and despite his efforts, shifted ground. He added that at this point of the race, his saddle shifted, which placed him at a disadvantage for a short period before he was able to readjust his seat and ride out to the finish. He added in his view, Vanell would continue to derive benefit from race experience. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
