The Far Post Bonneville Youth Soccer League www.byslsoccer.org June 2015 President Message Director Of Coaching Message Greetings: It s been a little over a year since I unexpectedly became President of BYSL. We ve changed some things, tried some new things, we are working on more changes, and yet we ve kept many things the way they were. One thing that definitely hasn t changed is the quality of people that are willing to give of their time, talents, and energy to coach the kids of Eastern Idaho. We have so many great coaches and volunteers in our program, and they definitely deserve to be applauded for the work that they have put in this past year. From my review of BYSL s records, we have more players than we ve ever had before. Overall we had about a 17% increase in the number of players from Spring 2014 to Spring 2015, and we more than doubled the number of players in our Youth Development Program. That is a lot more kids learning to love soccer in our area. Some of the things we have been working on include: New Logo Online Registration (GotSoccer) beginning Fall 2015 Improvements to our YDP Program Improvements to the Shootout New Sponsors Financial Assistance for our Regional ODP players Financial Assistance for Teams that Qualify for Regionals or President s Cup Controlling the weather (Not really, but if anyone has any ideas let me know). Dan Beck, BYSL President Beck_dan@hotmail.com 206-5588 Kudos: Thank you to all who volunteer coach for BYSL. Soccer in Southeast Idaho would not exist without you! A few coaching gems are shared below. Mike Wedman and the BSC Girls u14 team was recognized by a Montana affiliate for exceptional sportsmanship and exemplary behavior at the Performance Cup tournament. Thank you to Trina Bates Clegg for her dedication with the XSC Boys u13 and u14 teams. I have received accolades from parents expressing both their appreciation for coach Trina as well as their children s appreciation for learning new skills and having FUN! Congratulations to Nick Josten and the BSC Boys u18 team for winning the 2015 Idaho State Cup. They are one of only two teams outside of Boise who are honored with representing Idaho at the Far West Regionals to be held this month in Boise, ID. CONGRATS TO THE IF BYSL BALLISTIC U18 BOYS TEAM: The last time a state club championship was won by an Idaho Falls based team was 2000. The team will represent Idaho at the regional soccer tournament in June, competing against teams from the western region including California, Colorado and Nevada. Good Luck to the BSC U18Bs. Pictured in the back row are head coach Nick Josten, Quentin Anderson, Jacob Gravelle, Rikki Rodriguez, Josh Crose, Andrew Nelson, James Goettsche, Jordan Garcia, Mckay Zabriskie, Traigen Ledezma and coach Rob Crose. In the front row are Cobi Brower, Abe Torres, Caleb Allred, Mitch Behunin, Andres Godinez, Caleb Eubanks, Juan Santana, Jorge Carmona, Luis Gutierrez and John Allred. BYSL Ballistic U18 Boys WIN State Soccer Championship The Ballistic U18 boys soccer team won the 2015 state club soccer championship by beating Boise Nationals 2-0 in the Idaho State Cup final held last Sunday in Boise. Idaho State Cup is a statewide competition held each year to determine the top boys and girls teams in the state in each age bracket from 13 18 yrs old. Ballistic U18 advanced to the final with two wins and a draw in the preliminary round, scoring 7 goals and conceding 1. The championship game against Nationals, the 2014 state champion and a perennial Idaho youth soccer power, was played Sunday afternoon and was the fourth game for both teams during the weekend. Ballistic pressured aggressively from the start and limited Nationals to few good chances on goal during a very open game. Ballistic had several good scoring opportunities but was denied by excellent saves from the Nationals goalkeeper and the game remained 0-0 at halftime. In the second half Ballistic s Jorge Carmona broke through in the 53 rd minute with his 7 th goal of the tournament. The intensity increased as Nationals pressed for an equalizer but it was Ballistic s Jordan Garcia that scored next, making it 2-0 with 20 minutes to go. A final surge from Nationals resulted in a series of long shots and set play chances but, apart from one goalmouth scramble, Ballistic prevented any real danger while continuing to create regular chances at the Nationals end. With player energy waning and belief growing Ballistic killed off the final minutes of the game relatively comfortably. Referee Corner IYSA District II Referee s website: www.srsoa.org In mid-may, the district appointed a new District Referee Administrator (DRA) to represent District II soccer. This appointment has the support of the Idaho Soccer Referee Association (ISRC). Many of you have known (or seen) John out on the pitch for several years. John is excited about working within the local referee associations and the district as a whole. He'll be working along side the district affiliate presidents in helping educate and mentor the referees in District II. John has been refereeing soccer for 13 years, and has held AYSO Regional and Intermediate, USSF Grade 7, and IHSAA Referee certifications. He's refereed in the Snake River (BYSL), IHSAA, WYHSAA, IFASA, YMCA, and Liga Latina leagues, and he have participated in numerous local and state tournaments. And for the past couple of years, he has been mentoring many of the youth referees most commonly at the Sunnyside Fields, but has extended his knowledge and passion for the game on the youth (and the youth at heart) at other venues as well. He loves the John McGimpsey, DRA District Referee Administrator sport, and is excited about being able to share his knowledge and passion with fellow officials in his new role as District Referee Administrator. John was asked to state a few goals that he would like to work towards in the early stages of his appointment as the new DRA. His responses were: I have a couple of goals in mind: (1) improving support for referees, including training, mentoring, and evaluations, and (2) supporting referee advancement, identifying candidates for State (grade 6) track. I'd also like to work with local referee associations to reach out especially to youth referees and to strengthen the resources in the referee community. You'll be seeing John out on the pitch, both in the middle as well as on the side-line helping and supporting fellow officials. Please help welcome John to this new, exciting, and challenging role as he begins his new adventure.
