Time for thanks and to all the Bosch Coaches, Faculty and Players thanks for ensuring that Bosch Hockey enjoys the popularity and successes that it does. A special thanks to Mr. Rob Bowley (Master in Charge of Hockey) and also to Mr. John Whitehead (Rondebosch Sports Administrator) for all that you have done for Bosch Hockey this season. Hockey Season Awards Function and Fundraiser 18 September 2009 19h00 in the Mears Centre - RBHS The Hockey Committee will be organising an Awards Evening which will be combined with a Fundraiser and a sit down meal which will comply with all religious dietary requirements. There will be a band and live music during the evening. Captains of all teams will be asked to prepare and give a Captain s Report setting out the highlights and amusing incidents from the past season. It is anticipated that there will be 3 awards per team (categories to be announced soon) in the form of small trophies. Parents are requested to advise the Committee whether anyone would be willing to contribute towards the cost of these awards, and we are also looking for donations to be raffled on the evening in aid of Hockey funds so as to inject an element of fun into the evening. (Contact Cindy Giger on 082 745 5831) The cost of tickets will be announced soon and it would be appreciated if all Hockey Players and their Parents could pencil in this date in their diaries so as to ensure that we have a full house attendance. Tickets will be sent home with the Hockey players and if for any reason they are unable to attend we will expect payment for the ticket, as this is the season end Function as well as a Fundraiser evening. For many of us this would be the last time we would ever represent Rondebosch and wear the jersey that we hold so dearly. It was sure to be a game steeped in emotion no matter what the outcome would be. We came into the game as the underdogs, not only because Bishops beat us in the last encounter but also because they had, up until Friday an unbeaten season. A huge crowd of parents and pupils gathered to watch the 1 st hockey side run on for one last time. The game started off at a very high intensity with play never shifting in either Rondebosch or Bishops favour. We had numerous chances at goal until Michael Reid scored a sensational goal resulting in us leading 1-0. The momentum then shifted in our favour and we dominated play for the remainder of the 1 st half. Bishops were taken by surprise by the amount of heart and determination that we showed. Bishops stepped it up in the second half and the game was very equal. They equalised in the 10 th minute with a well worked field goal. Scores were level with 10 minutes to go. We were constantly attacking and penetrating their defence as we were willed on by the singing supporters to score. Lloyd Tanner then won us a P-flick with a great bit of skill to give us a chance of victory. Cole Milton stepped up and slotted the flick in the top left corner. Scores were 2-1 with 7 minutes to play. Bishops then unleashed themselves and threw everything at us. We withstood wave after wave of attack and were resolute in the fact that we were going to win the game.

When the final whistle blew the entire Rondebosch supporters ran onto the field and took part in the celebrations. It was a very special moment. We won 2-1! Personally, I couldn t have asked for a better way to end a season that had its ups and downs. The feeling after the game is something that I will cherish and hold dear to me forever! Altius et Latius Peter Schwellnus - Captain Rondebosch 2 nd Team vs. Bishops 2 nd Team 21/08/2009 After a great season for the 2nd hockey team of Rondebosch, it had finally come to this one deciding fixture. With our awesome record of just losing two close encounters the whole year, Bishops wanted to come out and dampen this statistic. The match against Bishops started at 15:45 at WPCC. Naturally the game began with a lot of shoves and chirps as this is the biggest game for both teams in the year. Bishops started out the better team scoring an early controversial goal that should have been disallowed, but none the less we just pushed up the tempo which would eventually lead to a RBHS goal. At the break we were still down 0-1 but we weren t that phased. Like every game in the season we came out firing and eventually scored the equalizer through Daniel Blake, a good shot into the bottom left corner. The game carried on at a quick pace but at the end whistle the game had resulted in a draw, 1-1. Man of the match went to James Macdonald who worked the entire game and put his body on the line, just like Nathan Richardson, who surprisingly didn t get a card for his efforts. To sum up the season, it was truly awesome. Seeing Nathan Petro dominate opposition game in and game out was incredible. Seeing Noah DeVilliers making darting runs down the sideline took my breath away. And finally seeing Shaun Thompson making some insane saves every now and then was a big help. A huge thanks must go to Steve for coaching us this year. All of the boys were inspired by his amazing pre-match talks and the knowledge we gained from him was measureless. Thanks for a great season Boschy Aidan Morris Rondebosch 3rd Team vs. Bishops 3rd Team 22/08/2009 This past weekend s fixture was highly anticipated and did not fail to disappoint. On Saturday morning the 3 rd side were keen to end the season off on a high. Having beaten Bishops in the second term, we went into the match with confidence. The first half started slowly but we began to build momentum and converted this into a P flick slotted superbly by L. Reeve. The second half again started slowly with us on the back foot. Bishops converted this pressure into a soft goal tying the match. After numerous attacking opportunities neither side was able to score, leaving the final score a disappointing 1-1 draw. Sebastian Bosman

Rondebosch 4th Team vs. Bishops 4th Team 21/08/2009 No Match Report received at time of mailing Rondebosch U16A Team vs. Bishops U16A Team 21/08/2009 It s been a long, hard season for us and a 2-0 loss to one of our big rivals, Bishops could be a bit disappointing. I do however really commend the boys on showing determination and commitment to the end. Rondebosch had a few great patches of play but short lapses in concentration cost us goals. Bishops first goal came from a short corner in the first half and their second from a scuffle in the goal area in the second half. Bishops had a couple more goal scoring opportunities than we did but they were denied by our goalkeeper, Jason Giger, who had a great game saving us on numerous occasions. In the second half I felt we played better because we built up play into goal scoring opportunities but we did not capitalize. On behalf of the team I d like to thank everyone for their support and specifically Mr. Nel for great guidance, I m sure everyone learnt lots from him. I also would like to thank the team for allowing me to captain them; it will be an experience I will never forget. To the team, remember, greatness does not come without cost. Byron Anthony Rondebosch U16B Team vs. Bishops U16B Team 22/08/2009 No Match Report received at time of mailing Rondebosch U16C Team vs. Bishops U16C Team 22/08/2009 The hockey match against Bishops U16C, took place on Saturday 22 August, at 07h50. We played on Bishops home Astro. We played well and we played hard very strong as a team. Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication on our side, the opposition managed to score the only goal. The second half we changed goal keepers and thanks to Caelin Curry for making it possible. Thanks to Messrs Winter and Claassen for an amazing season. Esmond Schnehage (U16C Captain) Rondebosch U16D Team vs. Bishops U16D Team 22/08/2009 All of us were very excited to play in our last match of the season. Both teams were strong and Bishops managed to enter our D a few times but our defence was too strong for them and they couldn't manage to score. We had many opportunities but we weren't able to score either. Half time came with a nil all score. In the second half we had most of the possession and Zain Karodia scored our goal in the last few minutes of the game. Caelan Curry

Rondebosch U16E Team vs. Bishops U16E Team 22/08/2009 No Match Report received at time of mailing Rondebosch U14A Team vs. Bishops U14A Team 21/08/2009 On Friday the 21 st of August the U14A team played against Bishops for the third time. Things went well for the first two games and continued to go well with the third game. We started the game off with high intensity and Bishops were starting to feel under pressure when I was able to add one on to the score board for Rondebosch. At the start of the second half Bishops fought hard to get on the board which made us panic towards the end of the game but we were able to keep our cool and finish the game 1-0 to Bosch. We are looking forward to our next and last game against Wynberg which is the final of a tournament. Justin Prins Rondebosch U14B Team vs. Bishops U14B Team 22/08/2009 No Match Report received at time of mailing Rondebosch U14C Team vs. Bishops U14C Team 21/08/2009 We played our best game of the season against Bishops. We played strategically and aggressively. We strung together to get quick passes through and ran after the ball even when we were out of breath. We managed to take numerous shots at goal in the first half when Kyle van der Poll scored behind the keeper. In the second half we managed to top our performance in the first half and communicate well with each other giving us another set of good shots. A good ball was crossed and I managed to get the ball behind the keeper, giving us a 2-0 win over Bishops to end of a great season by the U14C s. Shayan Parbhoo
