The Senators took the series opener 6-5, aided by two three-hit performances by Andrew Stevenson and Raudy Read. The team looks to capture their fourth series win of the season with a game two victory. This is the second series of the year between the two after the clubs split a four game set to start the season at FNB field. STEVENSON AMONGST LEAGUE LEADERS Outfielder Andrew Stevenson finished 3-5 on Friday, raising his average to.361, the eighth highest mark in the Eastern League. The Lafayette, Louisiana native now has 26 hits on the season, tied for third best in the league and his 14 runs scored are the fifth most in the league. NOT TOO HIGH AND NOT TOO LOW With the series opening win, the Senators improved to 10-9 on the season and ended a two game losing skid. The club has not been more than two games below or above.500 at any point this season and has not won more than three in a row or lost more than two in a row. RED HOT RAUDY Senators catcher Raudy Read finished 3-5 with two RBI on Friday and is now hitting.375 over his last ten games. The 23-year-old is second on the team with six multi hit games and is tied for the team lead with two home runs. Read is the 21st ranked prospect in the Nationals organization according to MLB.com. TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY With the Senators win on Sunday afternoon, the club improved to 4-0 in day games on the season, as opposed to 5-9 in night contest. STARTING PITCHING ON A ROLL Senators starting pitchers have allowed three runs or less in seven of their last eight starts. Four of the past eight Senators starting pitchers have held the opposition to just a single run. FIVE HIT WONDER Andrew Stevenson finished 5-5 on April 18 giving him five hits in a game for the second straight night. He s the first Senators players to ever accomplish the feat, and it s happened in the minor leagues once since 2005, last occurring when Emerson Landoni went 5-5 on July 12 and 13, 2015 while playing for the Mississippi Braves. TONIGHT STARTING PITCHERS John Simms gets the ball in game two of the series Saturday night. The right-hander has not allowed more than two runs in a start this season, and limited Bowie to just one run on five this across five innings in his last start. The 25-year-old leads the Eastern league with a 0.83 WHIP (walks and hits over innings pitched). Overall he is 1-1 this season with a 2.87 ERA. Simms is opposed by Altoona starter Yeudy Garcia. The right-hander is making his first start against the Senators, and is 0-2 with a 10.80 ERA in three starts this season. Garcia gave up five runs in 3.2 innings in his last start against Akron and has allowed twelve runs across eight and a third innings total this season. The 24-year-old was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent in 2013 and has pitched at a new level in each of his first four professional season.
