Red ribbon week was created to help educate kids on the dangers and consequences of drug use. Every day we have a different theme to have a fun and interesting way to talk to kids about staying drug free. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE FOR FRIDAY! WEDNESDAY ~ ESE Stands Strong against drugs ~ Wear your Texas/Humble ISD Strong shirts, ESE spirit shirt or other Texas wear. THURSDAY ~ Sock it to Drugs ~ Wear your craziest socks and bring a new pair of socks to donate to the homeless for SOCKTOBER. FRIDAY ~ Orange You Glad to be Drug Free ~ Wear your Astors gear or orange to show your support for the ASTROS. We will still have our fun run that day. PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES will be held Wednesday and Thursday. If you have not scheduled your conference please do so today. DON T FORGET that it is also EARLY RELEASE on those dates as well. ESE CLAW Annual Coat Drive will begin on November 1st and run through November 15th. Please send in your new or gently used coats and jackets to help families stay warm this winter. Coats will be donated to Family Time, a local charity that assist families in need. Calling all 4th & 5th grade ECOBOTS!! Mrs. Drew and Mrs. Pierce will be selecting members for the 17-18 Ecobots club. All interested 4th & 5th graders should pick up an application from Mrs. Drew or Mrs. Pierce and turn it in no later than NOVEMBER 1st. No late applications can be accepted. Spots are very limited and students must be in good behavioral and academic standing. Ecobots will meet each Tuesday until 4:30 beginning November 7th. Join in our 2nd annual BOO TO THE FLU!! Help keep your school and family healthy by getting flu vaccines for everyone in your house. Students can turn in proof of this year s flu shot until the end of October to their teacher or Nurse Amanda. The class with the most flu shots turned in will get a party from Nurse Amanda. It is not to late to get your flu vaccine but the contest will be over next week!! Make an appointment today and lets say BOO to the FLU. Mrs. Petzold, Mrs. Rieves and Mrs. Havnen are all tied for first place with several in second by only 1 shot!!!! With cold and flu season upon us, Nurse Amanda would also like to remind parents that cough drops are not allowed at school. Please also remember that students must be fever free, without medication, for 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping us keep all of ESE healthy! BOX TOPS WINNERS Mrs. Vaughn ~ 185, Mrs.Adams ~ 162 and Mrs. Flowers ~ 123 Keep clipping those box tops so you can win a cool treat from Earnie! Join the AHS JROTC and Project Graduation for the 4th Annual AHS Zombie Fun Run on Saturday October 28th This 5K is sure to get your heart racing with zombies trying to steal your life flags before you finish the race! There will also be a Kids Trick or Treat Trail with some not so scary characters for a day of family fun! Everyone is invited to wear your costumes and join us for a wonderful day. More information and registration can be found here. WE WANT YOUR SCRAPS!!!! Mrs. Pierce will once again be composting this year. She teaches the students what compost is and how it helps our environment (and our gardens). Please send your Browns & Greens to the science lab and she will add them to the pile! PICTURE RETAKES will be held on November 7th. If you were not here on original picture day please plan to take your photo on the 7th. If you did not like your original picture, please return the unwanted package on retake day and they will retake the picture and you will receive a new package. Not having the original package may delay or cause inaccuracy with your re-order. We are aware that retakes are on the same day as the 4th grade field trip. Unfortunately this was scheduled prior to changing the field trip and can not be re-scheduled. USWIRL SPIRIT DAY Wednesday, October 25th from 12~6. Stop by and have a cool treat with your friends and family and ESE will get 20% of the proceeds. The class with the most participation will win FREE YOGURT so don t forget to give them your teacher s name! Page 2

Our wonderful Eagles of the Week set a great example of what it means to be a SOARing Eagle. These students know how to work hard, be kind, polite and friendly.
