November 12 Poultry and Egg Cookery Pet Show November 16-18 Challenge Camp December 10 Beef, Sugar, Sweet Potato Cookery January 28 Parish Livestock Show February 1-4 District Livestock Show February 11-18 State Livestock Show July 3-7 4-H Summer Camp Terrebonne Parish Upcoming Service Projects November For the month of November, Terrebonne 4-H will be participating in The Kiwanis Club Annual Coats for Kids program. Please check your closets and bring any unwanted coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, or jackets, and blankets for donation to the Coats for Kids drive. All items will be distributed to local area needy children and families. Please bring your donation to the 4-H office by November 18, 2016. Louisiana 4-H has also selected November as Elderly Appreciation Month. Caring for seniors is perhaps the greatest responsibility we have. Those who walked before us have given so much and made December For the month of December, we will kick off a giving campaign...give some change to make a change. We are asking 4-H members to donate at least $1.00. The money that will be collected will be used to buy Christmas gifts for teens at a local children's home. We are asking for monetary donations instead of donated toys so that we can purchase items on their wish list. PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS MONEY INTO SCHOOL (unless your leader allows). We will collect at our December 10th cookery. After that date you can bring money to the 4-H office. We will accept donations until December 12, 2016 at the 4-H office (511 Roussell Street, Houma).

Page 2 Christmas Ornament Contest Let s Decorate a tree or two or three.for a local nursing home. We are asking Terrebonne Parish 4-H Members to be creative and enter the Christmas Ornament Contest. Rules: 1. Must be handmade by the 4-H member no store bought ornaments. 2. Must have the 4-H Clover on the ornament. 3. Ornament must not be larger than 6X6. It can be what ever shape you like. 4. Your name, school name and grade should be attached to the ornament with a gift tag. 5. No edible items or real flowers. 6. Ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in elementary, middle, and high school divisions. 7. Ornaments are due to the 4-H Office (511 Roussell Street) by November 21, 2016, no later than 4:00 p.m. 8. One entry per 4-H member. 9. Ornaments will not be returned, they will be donated to a local nursing home. Achievement Day Theme Contest Achievement Day is our Final Contest Day of the 4-H Year and Awards Program. This year, Achievement Day will be held at HL Bourgeois on April 1, 2017. What will be the theme for the 2017 4-H Achievement Day? Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan in 7 words or less. The winning slogan will be one that is brief and catchy, capturing the spirit of 4-H; especially Terrebonne Parish 4-H. The winner will receive a $25.00 cash award. Think fast the deadline is November 21, 2016. Box 627 Houma, LA 70361 One entry per 4-H member Terrebonne 4-H Livestock and Rabbit Show Join Us for the Terrebonne Parish 4-H Junior Livestock Show and Rabbit Show Houma Airbase Pavilion Saturday, January 28, 2017 Cattle, Sheep, Goat, Pigs, and Poultry Show 9:00 a.m. Rabbit Show begins at 1:00 p.m. Terrebonne Parish 4-H will hold it s Parish Livestock Show on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. It will take place at the Air Base Arena Building on the East Side of Houma. We invite our 4-H members to come out at support our Livestock exhibitors on January 28.

The recipe should include the name of the dish, list of ingredients, how much of the commodity it contains and clear preparation instructions. Previous year grand champion dishes may not receive 2016-2017 Grand Champion awards. 4-Her s will not be allowed to win grand champion in more than one category. All dishes receive ribbon awards. Grand Champion dishes selected in each category will receive awards. 1 point will be given to each member for entering the cookery regardless of the number of dishes entered. 4-H members will also be given a point for participating in the educational workshops. Cloverbuds receive participation ribbons. December 10, 2016 Bourg Elementary 4413 St. Andrew St Bourg, LA Registration: In Cafeteria 9:00 9:30 a.m. Judging and Winter Wonderland Workshops: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Cookery Awards: 11:30 a.m. Ground Beef Cookery 2. Three Categories: 1. At least 1 pound of ground beef must be used in the preparation of the recipe. All ground beef should be cooked until gray in color, not pink and juices run clear. Low Calorie Main Dish A dish that provides less than 300 calories per serving. Calories per serving should be stated on the recipe. Quick and Easy Main Dish A dish that is prepared and served in less than 1 hour. One Dish Meal A dish that provides ingredients from at least 3 of the 5 main food groups. Sugar Cookery Five Categories: Cakes, Cookies, Candy, Pies, and Any other Sugar Dish Guidelines: 1. Any 4-H member may enter up to one dish in each category. 2. The prepared dish should have at least ½ cup of sugar. *Types of sugar which may be used include: white, brown, or powdered. Splenda is not considered sugar for this contest. Sweet Potato Cookery Two Categories: Dessert and Other Sweet Potato Dishes Guidelines: 1. Any 4-H member may enter up to one dish in each category. 2. The sweet potato dish must contain a minimum of 1 cup fresh, frozen, or canned sweet potatoes.

Cloverbuds receive participation ribbons. Poultry Cookery Guidelines Three Categories *Chicken Chicken includes fryer, broiler, baking hen, Cornish hen or game hen, roaster, or capon. The dish should contain at least 2 pounds bone-in chicken or 1 pound deboned chicken. *Turkey & Turkey Products Dishes should contain at least 12 ounces of turkey or turkey products. These products may include turkey (whole, de-boned or parts), ground turkey, turkey bacon, turkey ham, turkey franks, turkey sausage or smoked turkey. *Other Poultry & Wild Game This includes duck, quail, pheasant, pigeon, goose, emu, dove, and other game birds. The dish should contain at least 2 pounds bone-in or 1 pound de-boned other poultry meat or wild game. The cooked poultry dish may be any type appetizer, soup, main dish, salad or snack in any of the above categories. Egg Cookery Guidelines 1. The cooked egg dish must use a minimum of 4 eggs. This can be 4 egg whites, 4 egg yolks or 4 whole eggs or a combination of these 2. Three Categories: *Appetizer or Salad *Main Dish *Dessert 3. No raw eggs will be allowed in the final product. Dishes must be prepared the night before warm/hot dishes will not be judged. In order to compete in the contest, show up at 9:35 a.m. near the Pet Show Registration so that we can make our selection. No late entries. Costumes and props are allowed, but be tasteful and appropriate. Winner will receive a $25 voucher to the 4-H Mall! If you have a disability which requires special assistance for your participation in any of our activities, please contact the 4-H office at 985-873-6495 two weeks prior to the event.

Each 4-H er may bring (2) pets 2. You may enter your pets in as many classes as you like in its division 3. One pet per class 4. Entry fee - Per Class is $1.00 - NO REFUNDS 5. NO LARGE ANIMALS (horse, calf, goat, sheep & etc.) 6. NO SNAKES 7. Parents can bring lawn chairs * ALL PETS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH, IN CAGES OR OTHERWISE UNDER CONTROL. No pens, cages, etc. will be provided. Bring your own. Pets are NOT ALLOWED in the school building. You will not be allowed to participate in the pet show if your pet is seen in the building. Classes: Cats Best groomed Biggest Cat Best Dressed Softest Fur Dogs Best Pet Trick Biggest Dog Smallest Dog Best Groomed Any Other Pet Smallest Pet Most Colorful Most Unusual Largest Pet I Wish Pet This category is for those 4-H members who would love to have their own pet but for some reason, they can t. You are allowed to enter one stuffed animal or toy animal. If you enter a real pet, you cannot enter this class. Most Unusual 4-H Spirit We will select an overall best of show for each class and an Overall Best of Show of the entire show. 4-H Grows is our Theme for 4-H Week and for the Terrebonne 4-H year. We are challenging Terrebonne 4-H members to show everyone that 4-H Grows Leaders! 4-H youth are a living breathing, culture-changing revolution for doing the right thing, breaking through obstacles and pushing our country forward by making a measurable difference right where they live. That takes uncommon commitment. 4-H members are leaders in their communities everyday. Whether you re a 4-H educator, volunteer or member, we want you to share how 4-H helped you grow. Begin by promoting 4-H at your school and throughout Terrebonne Parish. Reference the October Cajun Chronicles for our photo contest rules. We encourage you to promote 4-H during 4-H week at home and school. Pumpkin Contest Results For the past couple of years, our 4-H members showcase their creativity and generosity by participating in the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. The pumpkins were judged and then donated to the Haven and the Oaks of Houma Nursing Home.
