We our continuously keeping our Patti s family in our thoughts and prayers as they overcome this devastation. Ann Martin, Director of Marketing, commented on the occurrence. On Monday, February 5th, we experienced a fire. We are thankful that all of our employees, area fire departments and first responders were safe. The quick response of all departments that worked the fire kept it from spreading throughout the entire Settlement and we are very grateful for all they did. The kitchen and business offices received the most damage. With this being said, plans to rebuild are already in process as we work to reopen as soon as possible. We are humbled by the outpouring of support from our town of Grand Rivers and surrounding communities. We will update progress weekly on our Patti s 1880 s Settlement Facebook page. kentucky lake boat charters Yacht Chartering Company Partners with Green Turtle Bay Greetings new neighbors! We are Captain Michael and Allison Hasler, owners of Kentucky Lake Boat Charters, the first and only captain-chartered commercial motor yacht chartering company on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. After some lengthy discussions with Bill Gary IV, research on Grand Rivers Tourism, and some prayer, we felt like Green Turtle Bay and Kentucky Lake Boat Charters would compliment each other very well. Prior to starting this journey last year, Michael spent 8 years as owner/operator of American Shoreline, a shoreline stabilization company for residential waterfront properties. That business came from Michael seeing a need for affordable and safe erosion control in the unique hilly terrain of southern Illinois. Fast-forward to 2016, Michael saw the need for a full time, commercial yacht chartering service on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. In our first year (2017), we chartered all sorts of parties including a wedding, memorials, bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations, and family reunions. It was quite the experience for us. The smiles we see at the end of the day from our guests truly reinforce the reason we started the venture. Being able to share the lake experience with other has been a real blessing and we are excited to bring this service to Green Turtle Bay. Captain Michael s first mate, Allison, is a military veteran and property manager our other business, Dam Near Lake of Egypt Cabins, whom you will often see assisting Michael or occupying the little skippers, Larkin, 8 and Lance, 6. The boat we charter, Prop-aganda, is a 1989 Silverton 46. (Yes, there is a funny story behind the name). Thanks to meticulous previous owners, she is in amazing condition complete with teak wood floors, double Detroit diesel engines and cold AC. We plan to focus our services on half day (4-hour) and full day (8-hour) charters, with the option to customize. For more information about our services, you can find us online at www.kentuckylakeboatcharters.com as well as Facebook and Instagram. We look forward to being part of the GTB community and seeing you all in the 2018 boating season! Sincerely, Michael and Allison Hasler MARCH 3

Spring will appear on March 20, 2018, which is right around the corner. Did I say this last month? Maybe. Phil, the prognosticating groundhog, saw his shadow. It was cloudy on Groundhog s Day, so not sure how he exactly saw that shadow? My husband and I typically de-winterize our boat in March. Hooray! Sending a special Welcome to Terrell Ham, Manager of the Commonwealth Yacht Club. So glad you have joined the Commonwealth Yacht Club family. Come to the Club and introduce yourselves to Terrell. If you missed the Valentine s party at the club you missed a delicious 4 course meal, and terrific entertainment provided by Reggie Lafaye and his romancing sax. It was so wonderful to see all our friends and meet new friends after being land-locked for the last couple of months. The party was so much fun! Welcome New Members! DAVID & ERIN WUNDERLICH, BRIDGETT DURHAM-CRISP, TOM & JANIE LOYD RICHARD & LINDY WILDER, JOSH & KRISTY LANCASTER, LES & DONNA FREEMAN To promote and encourage fellowship, friendship and camaraderie among our members and guests, by creating, organizing and providing boating activities for our club members and the surrounding water communities. Commodore s Corner How s The Weather? I spent a good portion of my early adult life in the Pacific Northwest, where I observed that there seemed to be two kinds of weather. Gray-Damp-Chilly (GDC), and Absolutely Brilliant (AB). Despite how one may feel about rainy days, those deep blue skies, mild temperatures, and majestic mountain vistas that are Sharla Sparks Commodore the very essence of AB are the very things that would cause the most problems. Tourists on their first visit would proclaim all those stories about Seattle raining all the time to be false and would start making plans for a big move to their newfound paradise. The trouble is, no one knows when Absolutely Brilliant season begins and ends. Sometimes it began on July 5 and ended on July 6. Sometimes we would go a year without, and GDC ruled the land. Nothing much to get excited about except to fill your big venti grande super gulp sized coffee cup back up and wonder if you would ever need sunscreen again. Back to present day life for the Sparks family life with seasons at the lake! According to the calendar, Spring officially begins March 20. That means it is time to de-winterize your life, plan your de-winterization for your boat, and get ready for another fun Spring at Green Turtle Bay! Western Kentucky weather got a bad reputation this past winter, with jokes such as, If you don t like the weather here, just wait a day. Or 10 minutes. While Mother Nature did seem a little temperamental these last few months, I am positive that Spring is on the way. Before you know it, you ll be looking for the sunscreen and pouring a refreshing icy boat beverage! We would like to emphasize that all CYC members are welcomed at any CYC-sponsored event.
