2016 Welcome Letter Distinguished members of the press, welcome to the 30th anniversary of Hot August Nights! Over the years, millions of people have created lifelong memories with us, and relived some of the happiest times of their lives through the classics that we revel in each summer. This being my first year as Executive Director of this tremendous and beloved event, I m honored to be at the helm as we head into Hot August Nights fourth decade. Together we ll continue to celebrate the past while looking towards the future, bringing longtime favorites plus new and exciting elements for you to enjoy each year. Whether your passion is the music of the 50s, 60s and 70s, shopping at the Big Boy s Toy Store or the Dazzling Diva, honing your driving skills on the AutoCross track, or watching picture-perfect history cruise before your eyes, Hot August Nights is sure to thrill each and every year. For our 30th anniversary, fans can see some new events! We ve teamed up with Motorsport Auction Group to present a new auction, we re also bringing the hot new motorsport of drifting to our fans! This global phenomenon can be seen at our AutoCross & Drifting presented by AMSOIL event from Thursday, August 4 through Saturday, August 6, and people can even participate in a ride-along, or compete with some top drifters. Event Overview From the moment you hear that first engine roar to life, you're hooked. Excitement revs up, and the love affair red-lines. The Biggest Little City shifts into high gear for Hot August Nights, when hundreds of thousands come to pay tribute to the exquisitely powerful automobiles and electric-guitars lacing music of the '50s, '60s and '70s a combination so classic it may as well come with a poodle skirt and strawberry malt to share with your sweetheart. The world's premier classic car event, Hot August Nights celebrates its 30th anniversary by showcasing more than 6,000 vehicles from this golden era of design at events all over Reno, Sparks and Virginia City. It's impossible to miss the white-walled tires, fins, flares and chrome accents cruising the streets or parked, ready to be admired at Show-n-Shines, nightly cruises, Drag Races & Burnouts, AutoCross & Drifting presented by AMSOIL, the Hot August Nights Auction presented by Motorsport Auction Group, free concerts and many other community events. Visitors from all over the world and locals alike thrill at the sight of these beautiful beasts revving up, racing and high rollin' about town. From the Big Boy's Toy Store a massive event where enthusiasts can find the latest parts, accessories, and technology for their street rods, hot rods and muscle cars to the largest collective cash prize purse Show-n-Shines in the world totaling 13 different venues with more than $160,000 in cash and prizes for the taking, including the Hot August Nights Cup presented by Downtown Reno, a prestigious Show-n-Shine classic car competition with over $100,000 alone in cash and prizes available it's a motorhead's dream. Hot August Nights Cup PRESENTED BY DOWNTOWN RENO New name, same prestige. The Hot August Nights Cup presented by Downtown Reno makes its debut at Hot August Nights 30th anniversary event. Replacing the previous year s cup, the Hot August Nights Cup offers more than $100,000 in cash and prizes including a prize purse worth $41,720 for the Ultimate Best of Show Winner making it the largest prize purse of any collector car competition in the world. The Hot August Nights Cup brings out the cream of the classic car crop every year to compete in a three-day Show-n-Shine. Attendees can see classic engineering at its finest when 50 of the world s top restored and modified cars compete from 4th Street in downtown Reno from Wednesday, Aug. 3 thru Friday, Aug. 5. Renowned judges include Co-Host of Spike TV show MuscleCar Steve Mank, Co-Owner of nationally recognized car show the SuperNationals Reggie Tibbetts and Eddie Potestio of Eddie's Rods will make the judgment, narrowing down the selection to the Top Ten. The Top Ten qualifiers will be selected in downtown Reno at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 and then displayed at the Hot August Nights Auction presented by Motorsport Auction Group, inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. From there, the top five finalists, also known as the Reno Five, will be taken to downtown Reno and announced from 4th and Virginia Street at 6 p.m.

Rental cars can get you from one place to the next, but if you are not planning on driving up to Lake Tahoe or Virginia City, and plan on staying in Reno and Sparks, your best bet is to travel by taxi or Citifare bus as general parking at our venues is limited.
