June Newsletter stirlingcomets.sa.netball.com.au A Word From Your President Welcome to the first edition of our Comets newsletter for the 2014 season. It s hard to believe we have just played round five. It seems only yesterday we were heads down grading you all. I would like to take a moment to thank the grading committee for their time, energy and effort. This has been rewarded with almost all of our teams within the top four on the ladders, a fantastic outcome for us all. This year the Stirling East Primary School has agreed to let us use their courts for our overflow games. As these courts needed resurfacing unfortunately we haven t been able to make use of them to date. I m very happy to report that they will be ready for use when we return after the long weekend. We thank you for your patience during the last few weeks particularly with the many venue changes we have had to make. We have just celebrated National Netball day, hence the carnival atmosphere at the courts on Saturday. The photos that were taken will be sent to ANZ to acknowledge their sponsorship and hopefully win us some prizes for our efforts. Lastly it is necessary for me to remind all parents that child supervision is absolutely essential on training nights and on game days. We had an incident at the courts last week where an unsupervised child ran out onto the road to get a ball. A bus had to brake hard to avoid having an unthinkable accident. Please, please be vigilant with your child s safety. Your friend in netball Umpire Update Thanks to all the amazing umpires for putting their hand up week after week to do this thankless task. Please remember that without these super stars their would be no game and therefore before we criticise, because lets face it when we don t have a whistle in our mouth we are all A Grade umpires, we show support and understanding especially to our young and brave, up and coming stars. Most of you would know Katie Vanstone, but you may not know that she recently completed her Level 1 Umpire Course through the Mid Hills Netball Association. We congratulate her for this achievement and wish her success in her umpiring future. Chloe Berry is another young umpire who has completed Academy Training and is currently working towards her C Grade Badge. The girls are pictured after Umpiring together. THANKS GIRLS! Nel Middleton

NEW SENIOR COACH For those that aren't aware it is many years since Stirling Comets Netball Club (SCNC) has had a Senior Coach. It is with excitement that we welcome Jenny Ryan as our head Senior Coach. In 2014 the SCNC implemented the first phase of their strategy to improve our seniors and develop them to be a stronger and a more competitive group in the Hills Netball Association. This strategy is long term one which will hopefully lead to more Grand Final wins and a club with many Senior Teams creating great depth, strength and competitiveness both internally and externally. Well before the season started, we began looking for a coach that could help the Comets build our Senior teams and bring a strong foundation to the club including experience, netball skill and work ethic. Jenny Ryan was appointed senior coach. She brings years of experience including coaching at ETSA Park, Summertown, Mt Barker, and for the Hills Association Rep Teams. Jenny has a big job, training U17, C2, B2 and B1. Also mentoring younger players to help them improve. She also is the Hills U17 REP Team Coach for 2014. Her daughter Emily has also joined the club and playing in the B2 Senior Team. Please make Jenny feel welcome and we wish her success with our Senior & U17 teams. Some of Jenny s Playing Experience - Over 20 years of A grade -Division 1 in SA Masters -A Grade in Mid Hills Netball ASSOC -B Grade at Matrics and Wildcats SA Netball ASSOC Some of Jenny s Coaching Experience -Sub Juniors at Campbelltown NC -Juniors at Glandore NC -A Grade at Summertown NC -B Grade at Matrics NC -Seniors at Newton Jaguars NC Welcome Jenny - we wish you every success and hope you enjoy your new home at The Comets. COMETS CAFE Thank you Thank you Thank you The Stirling Comets Café has been very successful so far this year. This only happens because of all the wonderful volunteers that have given up their time to run the canteen and BBQ. So please accept a BIG thank you from the committee to everyone who has spent some time in the café. SPONSORSHIP REPORT As we are all aware its very hard for businesses to sponsor any sporting club.
